So will this take 3DL iBLs and make them just work in Iray? Will it let me (easily) use, say, Lantios GIS lights/skydome textures in Iray or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely?
I haven't stopped messing with this product all day, and even though I only do Iray I think I've still only scratched the surface with regards to how much it's going to benefit me. I love it, and wouldn't be at all surprised if it turns out to be one of the best-selling products of all time. Here are a few of today's experiments...
Some good sites for really nice FREE HDRI :):

Some awesome looking images.. :) Still having a blast with it here.. :)
Thank you for the links their are some great HDR's there.. :)
Best ask over in Parris's thread tp make sure.. :) I would imagine they will..
Thanks! Free is in my price range! I got my update a few minutes ago. I think the issues I was having may have been fixed with it. Still no real clue, but I'm rendering in iRAY now.
I'm quite happy with most of my experiments with iRAY, I bought this to close to gap for my 3Delight renders and promo renders. I think I got it figured out...
Just wish I didn't have to post work the foot, looks like it's not part of the scene as it's stark contrast next to the ground was a dead giveaway. Not sure if this is better but at least it not so contrasted...
My latest and getting better pic, and after being put onto Picturenaut by hacsart over in IBL Masters thread in the Daz Commercial Products forum, I am now able to use the HDRI's from HDRI Haven in 3DL.. :D
Nice renders everybody! I'm on DAZ4.9 and apparently have to install the 4.10 Beta to be able to use IBL Master. How do I make sure it doesn't screw up 4.9, do I have to worry? Also do they share the same runtime folders automagically or do I need to point the Beta to my content folders?
The beta should work along side the public release just fine without messing things up. They share the same default content directories, but if you have custom ones, you may need to add them to the beta using the Content Directory Manager.
Thanks Parris! Here we go then...
Wonderful! These renders are gorgeous! Can you clarify whether these are Iray or 3Delight renders? Would be great to know render times and system specs, but only if you have time / feel like it. Thanks!
My playing bit.
3dl render - used the Etnies skate park HDR. Changed the intensity multiplier from 5 to 8 and added a target helper at 50%. Hair and brows were made in Garibaldi and render just as fast as they would with flagged AoA lights. No other lights used.
Renders took about 10 minutes on a quad core duo with Vista OS (yes! you heard right) and 6GB memory.
@Gone, very cool! Love the translucent look of the skin!
I'm sharing this post from algovincian with permission (originally posted in the commercial thread).
I'm glad you like them. They're all Iray renders and all took less than 30 minutes, which probably sounds like a lot to most people but is considered quick here as my machine (also known as 'Old Steam-driven') is only a Windows 10 laptop with 8GB ram and a Nvidia GeForce 820M card with 2GB vram.
In other news, after bothering to read the instructions I'm getting even more out of IBL Master today than I was yesterday!
Such great news, and easing my worry that this product might be overlooked. Thank you!
Some advice please;-
Although I got DazStudio some while back, I only really started working with it once Iray arrived, so I have barely looked at 3Delight. I have a Mac with a Radeon GPU, it can't be changed.
I have purchased IBL Master, and I am completely thrown by 3Delight. Working in Texture Shaded, how does one judge, for instance, gloss levels, they seem not to appear on the viewport? Colours also do not match the render. Should I not be in texture shaded?
A few pointers so that I can get started would be appreciated.
BTW Have you spotted that you can vary the luminance of the lightboosts by going to the surfaces tab then going down to the emissions area?
I think I have this sun position thing fixed after the update. I'm happy with the results. I always liked the HDRI white light. The girl with the sword is a 3Delight Render. It took about 20 minutes to render, but I'm not complaining.
The girl standing in the green dress is an IRAY render and it only took like 5 minutes to render. I have no clue how I got that to render fast, but none of the textures are the IRAY ones, rather they are the 3Delight ones.
I should probably go back to the warrior girl and try her in IRAY and do a comparision, but I had some trouble with Studio crashing on me so I hope the file didn't get all corrupted.
But this one little product significantly expands my capabilities. I haven't been this happy with a light set for a VERY long time. Like since Studio had that fancy dome set way back when I started in 2009 LOL.
This is a 3 year old scene.
I removed all the original lights and used an HDRI with a boost light turned on facing from the front.
Took 50 minutes to render - but there are 2.96 million hairs generated on the 2 figures.
Incredible render!
I've used it on 4.9.4.117, which is a release version of Studio.
3dl render. 6 minutes Quadcore duo.
...wow, that looks every bit as good as Iray. Still working through learning this thing. Running 4.9.4 and according to response I received from Parris on the product thread, some of the 3DL features don't show unless you are using 4.10 . Loathe to update as I've heard enough stories about bugs messing around with custom rumtimes and libraries (like I use), so I have yet to install it.
Yeah, I saw this and said good to go works in both render engines. So I just bought it after the youtube demo showed how it works. Great idea for lighting your projects in either render engine.
I render only in Iray, as even with the best 3DL renders I've seen, the skin never quite looks as good -they always look kind of "fuzzy" or like felt or something. Does this product offer a lot to Iray users too? Or does it mainly benefit those who render in 3DL?
...went ahead and installed the 4.10 beta so I can still run 4.9.4.
Yep that cleared up the issues with the error messages I was getting and the 3DL controls not working properly.
Running some tests now (3DL) and and liking what I am seeing so far. A bit slower than with the AoA ambient light, but much more accurate and no where near as long as UE or Iray in CPU mode even with the samples cranked up to 128 as surfaces affected by the indirect light still looked grainy at 32 samples.
I feel the main benefit of 3DL over iRay is the microdisplacement feature. That is, you can have real bumps without subdividing the mesh. Also motion blur is an added value. So having a good IBL for 3DL sounds very useful to me for DAZ users.
EDIT. I mainly use Cycles for rendering. That's because it features microdisplacement, motion blur and integrated denoising among other things. So it's so much better than iRay in many ways. But IBL Master got my attention as I like to play around with other engines just to check out what they are capable of.
I haven't done extensive testing with it, but it feels like the iRay renders are a bit quicker and better lit than before. One of the skins that kept coming out way too dark in iRay finally came out looking like the PA renders when using this product. Other skins, which had always rendered properly for me in the past, kept their correct tones. I'm more into NPR (Non-Photo Real) so truly accurate lighting isn't as crucial for me, but even just being able to see what the sky dome is going to look like when the scene is rendered is a big plus. The light helpers on the dome look useful as well but I haven't tried those out yet.
do you know which features do/don't work between the supported 4.10 and the unsupported earlier versions? I'm wondering if it might be possible to use a stripped-down version in 4.8 simply for the speed boost even if the other neat features aren't available.
...first of all some controls like for shadows do not work. Second, you will get a whole slew of error messages about missing coordinates while rendering that according to Parris "indicates that a command the light shader for 3delight sends is not being recognized" which means. "the lighting direction will be as unpredictable as it was for UE, because the changes made that allow the IBLM Light to communicate lighting direction properly with the 3Delight Renderer are in 4.10."
I downloaded and installed the Beta (which is the most recent version of 4.10) so as to not overwrite 4.9 which I am still using for other work.
...OK first "postable" attempt in 3DL using the test scene I created back when Iray was first introdced. Still need to adjust a few things but indeed looks far better than the "raw" 3DL version. Only used a single AoA Distant Light and IBLMaster. Used one of the HDR domes from IBL skies (High Clouds) for purposes of reflections.
