DAZ Studio 4.6 cannot locate the .dsf files for Genesis figures, Why?

I have DS4.6 and Install Manager, along with updated downloads of all content purchased through Daz 3D. All "seems" to be working fine with the exception of Genesis related content. I click on the smart content icon for, let's say, Genesis. After it seems to load the figure, this message pops up stating one or more missing .dsf files, and that continuing might have a unwanted effect on content shown. :(
Is there a tutorial or some information that someone could pass along to help me out of my present situation, because I have a considerable amount of content to try to access, and no Genesis to use with it.

Also, some other non-Genesis content has for some reason misplaced certain .jpg (textures) files. I had DS4.6 re-scan for content on my hard drive, but no luck in connecting it to the figure that I try to load into scene. Perhaps it's looking elsewhere, I don't know. Can anyone relate?

Genesis is now a *.duf file. Did you re-download the Genesis Starter Essentials?

In DS can you go to Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, expand the "DAZ Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats", and post a screenshot?

I did as you all suggested and re-downloaded the Genesis essentials, and updated the directories to look in the right location for the
DIM content that I had recently updated. This seem to do the trick and allow me to use Genesis, as well as most of my texture issues
other content (some would load up white with no textures). Thanks for the prompt and helpful guidance. The only thing I have to do now
besides learning DS 4.6, is to install and sort the many non-commercial DAZ format files/runtimes that I have accumulated over the years.

I just realized that during startup, DS 4.6 was trying to load a .dsf file instead of a .duf, and was looking in the wrong directory as well.
I browsed to the right one for genesis.duf. I should have known that this was the case. Thanks again.

Getting the same issue here. I've redownloaded the Essentials, and that hasn't changed anything. The new products I purchased are giving me the error message of being unable to find /data/Daz3D/Marauders/Gen-AbdPlate/Gen-MAbdPlate.dsf

All of my other content is working fine, but the new content is not.

Was Marauders installed with DIM, an installer, or manually extracted? Was the other content installed the same way?

Having the exact same problem, asked for help from Daz support but so far nothing out of them., This has become a lesson in abject frustration, Purchased a lot of content in the last week but can not use any of it.

off topic: By the way, How do I add a avatar pic to my forum replies? I tried to see if this was something I could do myself, but could not seem to locate the info in the forum that would allow me to do it. It must be really simple, or else I might have found it by now. "Smileys" don't work like they should either. Oh well. :/

There's a link in the upper right of the forum page for "Your Control Panel".

Marauders - one of the pieces in question - was installed using DIM. Everything else was done via the old installers or manually extracted - although I'm getting the same issue with Hellboy's short hair as well which was installed manually. Seems hit or miss. DIM really hasn't been that helpful honestly.

The default install location in DIM is different from the DS default -- you need to either add the DIM location in DS, or add the DS location to DIM and have it install to that location.

I have also been having the same problem, with considerable frustration!!!!

I have fixed and thought I would share what emerged.

My desktop is running Windows7 64 bit, with the system drive installed on an SSD. Therefore I install all programmes I can on another HDD, P:\Program Files, and content on another large disk drive (V:\) where I store all video/graphics resources and renders. A corruption of Windows combined with the failure of a recent disk image resulted in the need to do a complete re-installation. This was going well until I tried to reinstall DAZ and hit the can't find the .dsf file issue. 7 re-installs later I succeeded.

In the end, I down loaded and installed the Sudio 4.6 64 bit manually, because this allowed me to control where the Content Management Service was installed. I opted to install the service in a folder within the main Program Folder, but the Content Library in a folder on the V:\ drive. All this went as expected - and I verified by looking at the DAZ entries in the registry.

I then installed DIM1 and set the correct installation directories and started installing some content. And this led immediately to the .dsf problem. Investigation indicated that it had installed several components onto the C drive - in \Users\Public\Public Documents, \Users\MyUserName\App Data\Roaming (a hiiden folder) and in \Program Data. These are clearly hard wired in the DIM1 installer, whatever the settings. Some are fine by me - static configuration files which are not being added to every time you open the programme - unlike the log files.

So I went through the registry (yes I do like living dangerously) and changed every relevant DAZ key to point to P:\ and V:\ drives as appropriate. Then everything worked and is working fine.

One issue that I think may be at the root of the difficulties is that the entries that were pushing content onto the C:\ drive were in the format "C:/Users/Public/Public Documents/DAZ 3D" rather than "C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\DAZ 3D". My memory is the use of "/" works on C:, but other paths do need to use "\". It was only when I set all the revised paths using "\" that everything worked.

Someone at DAZ really does need to review what is hardwired into the DIM1 installer to allow for power users and others who are incereasingly using operating systems on SSD's but want to point user files to other drives.

I'm also having the same problem. As an experiment, I used only the DIM (first time) and get the same message about missing files. Usually its the .dsf, but there have been missing .jpg and so on. I can sometimes locate the files in another folder... I have run a scan for all files and updated the meta-data. I uninstalled and reinstalled Genesis starter kit. It shows up, but trying the same trick with the Dragonlords files did not work (see screenshot). I am running Mac 10.6.8

And to what folder is the Install Manager pointed?

  • edited December 1969

    The default folders:
    Download to:
    /Users/Shared/DAZ 3D/InstallManager/Downloads

    Applications:
    My Daz 3D Llibrary

That's where it downloads the zip packages, the question where is it installing to. I'm assuming it's the default, which is C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library -- that's where DS needs to be looking, not the path you have listed.

  • edited December 1969

On the Mac the default folder is:

    Applications:
Users/Shared/My Daz 3D Library as above.

The downloads folder is where the zip goes, not (I hope) where the installer places the content of to zip. My DAZ 3D Library is indeed the default folder, and it isn't listed as a content directory in your DAZ Studio screenshot so the content would not work like that. You either need to add the My DAZ 3D Library under Poser Formats and DAZ Studio Formats in DS, or you need to install to the folders listed under those headings already.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I followed this thread and was finally able to fix that issue! Thanks to everyone for all of your advice!

  • edited December 1969

Ok, so here's what I've found so far. Under Mac 10.6.8, on a MacBook Pro, the DIM installs files in both the Users/Shared/My 3D Library folder, but also the (Main Identity)/Documents/Daz 3D/My Library folder. No idea why, but a search for missing .dsf and .jpg files turned them up there. Much of the "PoserCF" content isn't showing up in Poser 2014, but some of it can be accessed by adding the Daz runtimes to the Poser Library. This leads beyond the interesting question of why the DIM does that, but more importantly how to make sure that Daz 4.6 points to all the right folders, and being sure that even if I point Daz to the right folders, that I've caught them all, and able to get Poser to find the Genesis characters. Thanks!

This thread saved me! Especially startdv's post as to where I could find my other library folder :D
Got a new pc and I needed to locate all my daz folders after I installed daz itself on a new HD.

Right...had the same issue, got a set of boxes due to not finding the dsf files. Basically I moved them manually in the right place after having searched for functional dsf files. The content structure of the zips are wrong as they start with content/data/etc whilst they should start with data/etc and then they work. In my case My Documents/DAZ3D/Studio/My Library/Data and not like it is done in the zips. After moving them to the right place, all loads fine....I don't use DS really...I only use it to export the cr2's of the stuff I wish to convert for Poser use without using Dson and Genesis.

The Content folder is there fro the Install Manager, as you've found you should discard it (unless your content directory is called Content, of course).

Indeed...but it was the DIM who placed them wrongly in the first place as I let it install it and for someone like me, who doesn't use DS, I had to try to figure out where the issue was. It might be easier of the zip were to start with Runtime or Data as it would allow straight extraction...just me two cents of course....

All DAZ studio Zip files have the Top Content folder, that is the folder that HOLDS the content to be installed. The DIM automatically discards that folder. You as a user should as well. Only the files in the Content folder should be installed.

Sure...except that the DIM installs files wrongly from time to time...

Not seen that if the files were not packaged wrong at start. 1600+ DIM installed files, and all working just fine here.
