I'd like to share one of my own WIPs...

Hopefully you recognize the person I'm trying to re-create, but just in case, it's Edgar Allan Poe. The image below is my first draft of him, and uses nothing but David 5 (at full strength) and a variety of DieTrying morphs. I think it's the first time I've used the DieTrying morphs on their own, without morphs from other sets. I was pleasantly surprised how close I could get to Poe's appearance with these free morphs alone.

And here's a more recent effort at Poe, using David 5 mixed with Michael 4 shape and morphs from several sets. In some ways, it looks less like him than the previous image, but I think that's mostly lighting, to be honest. I'm at the frustrating place right now--that some of you are probably familiar with--where the preview window looks almost just right, but then I click Render and I'm somewhat disappointed to see that it's not quite as close to perfect as I expected. The other thing I'm struggling with is balancing realism with indentifiability--I could easily make him more recognizable, but it would mean turning my character into a caricature rather than a realistic portrait.

Of course I'm not going to be entering my own contest, but in my mind this is informally part of the competition...everyone else's excellent work is inspiring me to push myself to see what I can accomplish.

Additional image used as a secondary reference--a slightly younger Poe

Thanks. He's on his way to being an official entry. The scene is finished, so unless I change my mind and decide to add something more, it's time to start rendering and then the postwork.

Yes, that is it. Thank you, Chohole. I assume if you're hiding it, it will be possible to bring it back once you folks have given my some feedback? I hold particular interest in your opinion about my decision to introduce both human and animal characters. Other entries include either people or fantasy/sci-fi creatures.

I'll copy the contents into a Notepad file anyway...

Well I don't have to hide it, it can be put in this thread if you like. But will fall in place by it's time stamp.

Well, I decided not to enter anything because this is a Genesis-focused contest and I can't get DS4 to run on my computer. But I love dialing character -- it's just fun -- and I was reminded that I hadn't yet used the Creature Creator V4M4 Bundle I'd acquired for $1.99 as part of a past Plat Club March Madness deal. Seems a shame to buy all this stuff and then not use it!

So I made a mermaid. I wanted to elongate her body and neck more than I did, but there are limits to scaling along the Y-Axis, especially in the chest area. I'm including a few test renders because the actual image obscures most of her skin detailing, which is too bad because it took me a while to get it to look right. By habit, nearly all my images are cropped with book covers in mind...whether I ever intend them for covers or not. By now, I think it's just reflex.

The inspiration for the character's name is pretty obvious. :)

Fine, go ahead make us Genesis users jealous by showing something that Genesis has never been able to do very well*: become a mermaid complete with traditional tail.** :-P (sticks-out-tongue) ;-) (winks) Though, from what I hear, we won't have to wait too much longer.

She's beautiful (well, in her own way, that is), and I love the attention to detail you put into your renders. For instance, you could have used any standard M4, but instead you customized him too, and he looks great. Excellent work--thank you so much for sharing it!

*At least not that I've seen.
**I should say that these fine characters deserve mention, despite not having the fish tail: From the Deep | Killer Shark | Kuril | Sirena | Sirano (and I might be forgetting some)

Hopefully you recognize the person I'm trying to re-create, but just in case, it's Edgar Allan Poe.

Poe has such a wonderful, skewy face. That's a good likeness. His upper head could stand to be a bit more...bulbous? Not sure if that's the right word, but he has a a high, wide, and round-looking forehead. -- though the hair you're using might be hiding your Poe's forehead shape.

I'm thinking his eyes are going to be the hardest part of his features to replicate. If you can find a texture that has slightly darker skin around/under the eyes, that would probably help a lot.

Fine, go ahead make us Genesis users jealous by showing something that Genesis has never been able to do very well*: become a mermaid complete with traditional tail.

Can't you use Mada's Lost Realms on Genesis? I'd think that with the figure's legs hidden, it wouldn't be hard to refit it.

She doesn't much look like Ariel. Ha! The M4 character is one of my many dial characters just hanging out in the Pose folder. This one happens to have a great nose.

Thanks for giving me an opportunity to share some of my characters!

    mmalbert that is awesome.

Thank you! I was pretty happy with the way it turned out.

...very good. Ended up with a celeb totally by accident, still need to do a bit of refinement before I post him. I'm sure he will be very recognisable.

...love it. Shows there is still lots of llfe in the old generation figures.

here's a real stretch (NAE), a fusion of Sadie and Aiko3 I did back in 2009 in Daz 2.3 (long before there was even a figure mixer). Again the settings for this were lost on the old HD that died. Of course this would be a "easy as cake" today with Genesis.

I haven't decided yet whether I'm going to enter her, but I've recently been working on a toon kid who would definitely qualify. So far, she uses morphs from Toon Amy, Satsuki, Hitomi, Kimberly, Justin, Evolution, Genesis Base, AMR's Proportions, DieTrying's 182 V4 Morphs for Genesis, and several of Thorne's Head and Body Morph Resource Kits.

This is Taffy, a character I created about ten years ago in Poser 4 for Vicky 3. This character has been converted a number times until the one you see in the image is genesis. If I enter, this would be my entry. Image 1 is the Vicky 3 version, image 2 is the Genesis version.

What a fun concept! When I surfed in my first impression was of a very bad encounter! I might do something with the surface to make it glisten, or add some type of interest- displacement bumps (hope I used the right term there.) I just think it would add to the "icky" factor- but you did a nice job on the ickiness!

Have to ask.. and it's probably a stupid question... but when saving Aldrak, I have so far saved him as scene subset... I have a feeling I should probably save him as something else... not sure if it should be as character or shaping preset though?

And if I do save him as either of those, can I still do these small finetunings I am doing now and than?

Oh and a little picture with him I was doing the other day... named it Early Morning Tea as I had the thought of him recently having woken up, having gotten somewhat dressed while waiting for the tea to finish
