I just started using Mimic last night in DS and while it was good, it wasn't great. For the most part it just looked like my character was flapping their gums so to speak. I've been watching the tutorials for a few months, I know it takes time to refine but I am hoping for more of an update (especially to get some G2.dmc files!) It is something that has the ability and really does need to evolve. So many plug ins are just left by the side of the road by the PAs and DAZ,
It all falls back on the availability and quality of the dmc file, or as Poser calls it, the viseme map. You can write your own, if you're a coder. Otherwise your stuck with gum flapping, or talking through the teeth, or nothing at all. I don't want to get involved with writing those files. I'm afraid it's another rabbit hole.
iClone uses what I have seen called "the dot system." You tell the software where the mouth is by placing dots on a still image. Teeth and tongue are supplied by the software. It works well, and it's easy to tweak, and it's fast. It might be worth the PITA of importing a non-iClone figure. I admit I am curious to see how this lipsync system handles 3D. I've only used it in 2D.
Right now I'm not sure which way to go.
