What does it mean to transfer between different versions of Genesis? Isn't Genesis a single figure?

    IT'S IN THE STORE!!!!

Now. The question is: how do we get gen3 morphs over to G2? I have a number of them. Do the gen 3 add-ons for Gen X work with Gen X2? It hasn't sounded like it from the discussion so far. And I see that none of the promos show gen 3 character bases moved over to G2.

I am assuming that the character morphs that we've already moved to Genesis can be ported from Genesis to G2. But those never worked without the gen 3 base clones to dial in first. IIRC, the gen 3 iconic shapes are a separate product from DAZ, not a part of Gen X itself. There hasn't been a set of iconic gen3 shapes released for G2.

So what is the new procedure? First port over any gen 3 characters *before* deinstalling gen X and replacing it and then port those Genesis morphs over to G2? Or is it now a 2-step procedure of first port them to Genesis -- using Gen X2, and then port *those* ports to G2 *without* needing to separately dial in the iconic gen3 shape?

    Greetings,
OMG! Dimension3D that's awesome! I had not expected it to be that inexpensive as an upgrade. I can't wait to set it up and try it when I wake up!

    Thank you!

Oridion: "Different versions of Genesis" means Genesis 1, Genesis 2 Female, and Genesis 2 Male.

JOdel: If you have both, a Gen3 add-on and the Genesis 2 add-on, you will be able to transfer morphs from generation 3 to Genesis 2. For the Gen3 add-ons, there are free updates that you have to download and install. GenX2 will create working morphs from the clone morphs for gen3 characters, and you may transfer the gen3 shapes from Genesis 1 to Genesis 2 as a base for the GenX morphs.

Also, GenX2 includes all features and supported figures of GenX1, no need to do anything in GenX1 before installing GenX2.

Sorry to be dense. When you say there are free updates to addons that you have to download for Gen3 characters, where does one download them from? I have GenX plus all the Gen3 addons and am about to take the plunge on GenX2 so it would be nice to know the process.

    Thanks.

From the announcement forum I can't see which 'different versions of Genesis' you mean, so I want to repeat Oridion's question. Do you mean V5, M5, S5, etc.?

Hey, not sure why but I'm not getting asked for a serial number on this? It's listed in my plug in list as green/good to go but there's a serial number in my account and I haven't entered it anywhere. Is DIM autofilling serial numbers now?

acanthis: I'm sorry, it looks the updates are not available yet. They should have been together with the release of GenX2, but they aren't. Wait until you see a version 2.0 file in DIM or Product Library.

polka dot: "Genesis" refers to the base figure. There are three Genesis base figures: Genesis (also called Genesis 1 to prevent confusion with other versions), Genesis 2 Female, and Genesis 2 Male. Victoria 5 or 6, Michael 5 or 6 etc. are not separate figures, they are morphs (or better morphs systems because they consist of several morphs including hidden correction morphs) for one of the Genesis base figures. GenX2 only deals with the base figures Genesis. Because V5, M5 etc. are morphs, GenX2 can transfer these morphs from one Genesis base figure to a different Genesis base figure.

temporal.ranger: GenX2 works with the old serial number of GenX. If you upgraded from GenX, you will get a new serial number, but you don't have to use it, if GenX was installed before.

Edited to note that the Gen3 add-ons are now available for download.

Thank you, Dimension3D. I understand that eg. V4/M4 and Genesis 1 morphs can be transferred to G2F or G2M. The Add-on is for the interchange of G2F to G2M and vice versa, right?

The GenX2 plugin includes support for generation 4 figures (V4, M4, K4) and for Genesis 1. Any other figure will require an add-on. The Genesis 2 add-on is required to transfer morphs to, from, or between G2F and G2M. Together with Gen3 add-ons, it will also enable transfer from generation 3 figures to Genesis 2.

Oridion: “Different versions of Genesis” means Genesis 1, Genesis 2 Female, and Genesis 2 Male.
    but then you tell
The GenX2 plugin includes support for generation 4 figures (V4, M4, K4) and for Genesis 1.

and it renders the http://www.daz3d.com/new-releases/genesis-generation-x2 's description misleading as the latter quote means that initial GenX2 plug-in doesn't support G2F and G2M figures without GenX2 AddOn for Genesis 2, am I correct?

The plugin is able to transfer morphs between different versions of Genesis, but you need the add-on to actually use this feature.

The product description of GenX2 mentions clearly and several times that for Genesis 2, a separate add-on is required.

Also, GenX2 includes all features and supported figures of GenX1, no need to do anything in GenX1 before installing GenX2.

I can see that GenX1 is no longer available for download in my Product Library, isn't that an error?

Ouch - you have the Upgrade from Gen4 ... I think you will have to contact Daz to make them repair that one!

The updates for the Gen3 add-ons to work with GenX2 are now available for download at DAZ via DIM or Product Library.

Xen0phage24601: I transferred Aiko 5 and other characters successfully from Genesis to Genesis 2 (see promo images). At which step does it fail for you?

Taozen: Kerya's right, you have to address DAZ about this.

BTW, anyone else getting "Error Message: Unable to receive your submission at this time" when trying to post in this thread?

Where is the manual located? I'm having trouble finding it. I have been so looking forward to this release. I want to try it out at lunch today but I don't have a connection so trying to set everything up before I leave in a few minutes. Thanks.

Yes. It's still there in my local database from feb. 26 so I guess something's gone wrong when they updated things for the GenX2 release.

The GenX2 manual should be installed under docs/plugins/genesis generation x2 in the DS application folder.

Manuals for GenX2 and the Genesis 2 add-on can be downloaded from my web-site here:
    * Genesis Generation X2
    * GenX2 AddOn for Genesis 2

Product readme's seem to be missing at the moment, but they should include the manuals as well.
