Hello, I think im getting all this but one question. Can the renderings of a daz original or other, be used in a game or does that also require a indie or commercial game licenses from the content creator?
TY
If you mean 2D images or animations then you dion't need a Game Developer License. The Game Decveloper License is required only if the game includes products from the store as 3D data .
If I am not using anything for a game of any kind, but wanting to create something for a book cover, that is going to be for sale, do I still need to get the "game license" or what do I need to purchase as a "license" and which items would this affect or involved, or single out? Please help me understand. Thank you!
It is my understanding you own any 2d renders you make with the Daz Studio and then, yes, can be used for a book cover.
Do you think the same is true if say, I make a Hidden Object game, where all the images are 2d (not 3d). Do you think that counts as a 2d render? I think so, but I would love another's opinion on the rules.
You do not need a game license for the usage you described.
I am sorry for asking this yet again, but I just wanna make sure I got this:
If I make a game with RPG maker (2d world) and use DAZ studio to make images in the software for the game and use 2D renders it's okay to do without a license? Even if it's not sold by DAZ, RawArt or Jack Tomalin?
Correct, If your using 2D images then you don't need the license.
I see. So, 3D images would mean being able to extract the model itself from the game, correct? That's why you need a license for it?
Correct
Thank you very much for the info and everyone else who posted. Really helpful. +++
I have read this entire chat a couple of times. I have one question about the Daz indie game licence. Is it also limited in the number of games you can use assets in, like most of the PA licences, or can you make an unlimited number of game titles using the Daz indie game licence (and only daz originals)?
They are unlimited, the ones I've bought. The licenses for 'one game only' game dev licenses are much cheaper but typically not available for purchase. I've only seen that type offered independent of the DAZ Store by a couple of PAs and I wasn't interested because really it's always an uphill battle to be successful being able to make multiple games to have a success let alone one game. In such a case as one game that's something more like an already successful studio would buy for a one-off game.
That said I have not gone through and read the terms of each of the PAs in the DAZ Store that do offer game dev licenses although those sorts of things tend to have standardized terms when offered in a store like DAZ 3D.
The Daz Original license is unlimited, once you have bought it you are set, as long as you only use Daz Original products. As you say the PA licenses are limited in the number of games that they can be used for, and that limit is stated on the store page for each one.
What's with the ongoing retroactive changes to the game dev license that Daz keeps wanting me to agree to? Now I can't even access the language of the license I have without agreeing to this retroactive licensing addendum. Seems like bad business to change terms after making a contract. I was about to make a major purchase, then saw they're shifting the contract terms. What gives?
If I want to purchase new Daz Original content for use with my license, now I have to pay another fee on top of already having the indie game dev license? Plus, if I agree to this, it says I cannot use the content I've paid to use without some vague requirement to encourage the user of my application to purchase the content from Daz and if I don't make some significant changes to the models before distribution of my application Daz can order me to cease and desist essentially. WHAT?! I'm significantly invested here. And please don't delete my comment. It's a valid point. If you silence me in this forum, I promise you I'll be talking on others you have no control over.

At least one Daz person has been answering questions. It is very likely they will miss other threads.
And to be clear, your existing Game Developer License still applies, you don't need to buy new licenses for content already covered. That is explained in the linked thread.
I was wondering about same thing
As Richard said at the top of the thread
