Where should I place all of my downloaded content?

I think my downloaded content is a mess... because I can only find a few certain things and I'm having trouble finding out exactly where to put everything.
The way I want to set everything up is to have everything in my Smart Content tab while I work in Daz 4.5 just like it is when you first install the program, open and find all the original content it came with neatly placed in there and ready to use.
So basically where exactly should I place all of this content that I have purchased in order to do that?

On second thought, should I just completely uninstall Daz along with everything it came with and redo it all over again?
I'm fairly new to this and I have no saved scenes or things like that, I've purchased only a few things but they're still in my account so I can just reapply them once I reinstall Daz 4.5 if that's the case.
Reason I'm asking this is because everything is all over the place and I put too many copies of files and moved around too many original files to find them and organize them the way I need them to be.
First of all, Smart Content will only display items which have Metadata associated with them, and only when the CMS (Content Management Service) is running. There is a way of creating Metadata yourself, but it is not for the faint-hearted, and takes a fair bit of learning.
When installing downloaded content, it all goes into the same place, so no knowledge of DAZ or Poser formats is really necessary. If you have been using the default path, then your content folder is probably called 'My Library', and that is where everything gets installed into, including Poser content. If you have been using the DIM (DAZ Install Manager), then the default path leads to a folder called 'My DAZ 3D Library', in the public documents area.
Almost all of the files you download now will be in ZIP files, which contain a folder called 'Content'. You should empty that folder into your current library folder, open the ZIP file, and drag and drop all of the folders inside Content into the My Library folder (if that is what you are using.
If you want to organise your content in a particular way, it is much better to Categorise it yourself. This allows you to out your content into categories that are most useful to you, but it does not move the files on disk, so DS can always find them.
If you don't have any saved scenes or categories, then a clean install of DS would be the best thing to do. I would also recommend that you use the DIM to install all of your DAZ 3D content. It is much simpler than doing it yourself, and it also informs you of product updates. You can decide where the DIM puts your content, you don't have to accept the default path.
There may be other things that you need to do if you decide to do that, like getting rid of the current database files, so that you can start afresh.
If you do decide to go with a fresh start do a search for dzinstall.ini files. DAZ scatters these all over the place and they hold install and content info that can make a mess of your fresh install. For Windows user running a registry cleaner like CCleaner (Google it) after un-installing is a good idea.

I see what you mean, and sorry for the really really late reply, I've been busy as of late.
However I don't know exactly how to redo everything as in start from scratch with all my files and what not.
Should I delete Daz and uninstall it completely from my computer to start from new?
Also, bonus question
Would this work for all the latest versions of Daz? I'm currently using 4.5
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/perfect-v4-complete-upgrade---full-body-system/94993
If not, is there anything similar to that out there?
There is no real need to delete DAZ Studio, if you do a reinstall, or upgrade to the latest version, the new version will uninstall the previous one for you. There is an excellent thread here : http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/19194/ which you should have a look at.
If your content is messed up, then you should move it somewhere else (or delete it if you are sure you wont need it again), and start over from scratch using the DIM, we can help with that.
The V4 item at Rendo that you linked to should work in DS, but I also notice that this is an upgrade for people who already own the previous versions of the fixes just be aware of that.
Keep in touch, and let us know how you get on. There is always help available here for you.
Hmm.... well I went ahead and installed version 4.6 with the Install Manager that you linked.
However, when I went to "Smart Content" in Daz 4.6, nothing showed up.
This is exactly where I downloaded all of my content with the Install Manager

Did you install Genesis Starter Essentials? The application and the content are separate installers.
Sorry, I meant to say that my purchased content hasn't showed up.
For example, all of the "Ready to Render Fiery Genesis" is all there.
So basically... my downloaded content isn't showing up like I had hoped since reinstalling the newer version of Daz 4.6
I'm guessing... that I really didn't change anything as far as where my purchased content was downloaded to (file location).
So what should I do at this point?
Because I AM able to upload for example, Morphing python but I can't attach any of the skins to it, and the only way I was able to do this is by going through File (at the top of Daz 4.6 UI) and "Import" and then going through tons of files and doing it that way.
It's not Smart, no Metadata for that set, Look in Content Library Tab>Poser Formats>My Library and you will find it all in the proper folders. Camera, Pose and Props.
Okay, well I found my content, however I bought this "Tropical Quest" scene, and when I tried to upload it, it doesn't let me and only gives me a caution / hazard symbol thing... so I'm guessing something didn't upload correctly?
Do you know of any videos in particular that take you step by step by step in loading a model / skin and the basics of posing?
Also, I have no models other than a few kids and Fiery Genesis, are those the only models that Daz comes with? I'm guessing I have to buy more if this is so.
If you installed this content with the DIM, it is highly unlikely that it is wrongly installed.
As Jaderail says, you need to go to the Content Library (not Smart Content), Poser Formats > My DAZ 3D Library > Props, and look for the file that you show as installed - /Runtime/Libraries/Props/Tropical Quest - Jungle/!Preload - Tropical Quest - Jungle.pp2
You should find an icon for the '!Preload' in the Props folder, which loads all of the Scene for you, but you must look under Poser Formats, and in the Content Library pane, NOT the Smart Content pane.
If you use the DIM to install bought content, it will always go into the correct folders, don't move things around after it has installed them.
Are you sure that you have the path to your new content library listed in the Content Directory manager as described before? It is called 'My DAZ 3D Library', and it is stored in C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library. Make certain that the path to that library folder is listed as BOTH DAZ Studio Formats - AND - Poser Formats.
Okay I found my tropical jungle set exactly where you were talking about and everything was described as you mentioned, by going into the My Computer file itself and searching through all the content.
The issue I'm having is making it appear into the Content Library (not smart content like you had mentioned). I'm able to get this Cold Blooded skin to work on Morphing Python when I import into a blank scene, but that's actually me manually going into "Import" then browsing through files until i find the correct one, and manually clicking and dragging in there.
I have already tried copying those EXACT same files into the same content where my Content Library actually is, but no luck. Clearly I'm doing something wrong lol, I just have to find out what it is.
I tried dragging and dropping the Tropical Jungle scene into Daz 4.6, but I get this error
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/10827/
So I'm not 100% what's going on, perhaps it's something with Genesis?
If it's not too much trouble, I wouldn't mind paying someone to help me through Skype while they share my screen and help me out with everything.
You should not have to use the import option from the file menu to load DAZ Studio content, that you have bought in the store here.
The Python, like other older DAZ Studio items, is in Poser Format. The figure itself, can be found in Poser Formats > My DAZ 3D Library > Figures > DAZ Animals, and it is called Python.CR2. The texture files can be loaded from Poser Formats > My DAZ 3D Library > Pose > Python, and they are in Poser PZ2 format. Make sure that you have loaded the Python.CR2 file first, make sure that it is selected in the Scene pane, then double click on the icon for the MATerial from the Pose folder.
The error that you are getting I don't understand at all. If it is 'No importer for the file format can be found', then I am completely baffled, if it happens when loading Tropical Quest, as it is in Poser Format.
You will need to post a screenshot of your Content Directory Manager, showing and expanded listing for both DS and Poser Formats. Also a screenshot of you Content Library pane showing the expanded listing of how you get to tropical Quest.
Yeah actually after looking at it again, I'm no longer getting that error, in fact I'm not seeing any files for the Tropical Jungle Quest, I can locate the folder in " Content Library" but I don't see any files for it.
You are looking in Products, you need to look in Poser Formats > My DAZ 3D Library > Props.
Other material files for Tropical Quest will be in Poser Formats > My DAZ 3D Library > Pose and the camera files will be in Poser Formats > My DAZ 3D Library > Camera.
Go to the search tab at the top of the Content Library pane, and just type in Tropical if you want to use that as a search option.
Okay, so what I ended up doing was completely removing Daz 3d from my computer, restarting it and reinstalling it through the DIM.
What ended up happening was that I was able to get the Tropical Jungle set loaded in, but now nothing else loads in. I don't know what exactly I messed up through the install manager, but now Genesis wont even load.
I'm not exactly sure what I did wrong but now this is going on
1st pic
So this is exactly what I did with the install manager
2nd pic
I know this is a lot, and probably frustrating you as much as it frustrating me lol but I really REALLY appreciate your help and I'm really determined to get this all going smoothly!
In a previous post in this thread, you said :
But you are not looking there! You are looking in 'My Library' NOT 'My DAZ 3D Library' They are two completely different folders.
If your content is installed to C:/Users/Public/Documents/My DAZ 3D Library, which is the default path for the DIM, then you MUST list that as both a DAZ Studio Formats AND Poser Formats folder in Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager.
If the folder you are showing called 'My Library' is inside the 'My DAZ 3D Library', then you will need to move the contents out of it, and into the proper folder. Please post a screenshot of your Content Directory Manager showing what paths you have listed for Poser and DAZ Studio Formats. Also post a screenshot of what your My DAZ 3D library looks like in Windows Explorer.
To post images on the forum here, use the 'Browse' button above where you type your message, fnd the image on your PC, and enter the path there, no need to use other sites to post images.
Okay that definitely helped out a lot right there, I was able to find all of my downloaded content by setting up more directories.
Only thing that really remains unsolved for me is the whole genesis not loading correctly thing.
You would need to give a few more details? Where exactly is Genesis installed to? Which Genesis are you trying to load, Genesis or Genesis 2 (both are free)? How are 7you trying to load it? what error messages are you getting?

It keeps telling me the file doesn't exist, but I downloaded Genesis to the same spot as everything else DIM downloaded it to (recommended settings).
However, like in the picture above I showed you, I did select "Install to select respective paths". Which is something I did not do the first time around when using the DIM before I uninstalled it.
Edit > Preferences > Startup, you will see 'Load File' (with a tick), that is the file it is looking for.
Either untick the box so that it does not look for that file on startup, or change the path to the correct location. In your case, if you installed Genesis to the 'My DAZ 3D Library' folder, change the path to that.
What I think is going on is Daz3d can't seem to find Genesis while 4.6 is activated.
In other words... when I'm using 4.6, since none of the Genesis files are showing up (Ready to render, dragon, fiery, etc) I'm guessing Genesis itself had a malfunction on installation.
Perhaps it had something to do with the way I installed it.
How did you install it? If you used the DIM, the files will all be in 'My DAZ 3D Library' as explained before.
Look in the Content Library pane, DAZ Studio Formats > My DAZ 3D Library > People, and you should find Genesis and Genesis 2 folders in there. If not, you may need to reinstall Genesis Starter Essentials.
Yeah I see EXACTLY what you're talking about, and I know what I did wrong ... sort of. I installed the majority of the content correctly, it's just that when I used the DIM to install Genesis, that part of the installation messed up and sent Genesis somewhere it shouldn't have been.
SO.... lol what I'm going to do is completely remove Daz 3d and every bit of content that it associated with it and I'm going to reinstall it, but correctly this time.
Are there any specific spots that I should put the content, that you'd recommend?

If it;s just GSE that's installed wrong, you don't need to uninstall anything else -- just uninstall that and reinstall to the correct location.
The main issue I'm having is knowing exactly where I should install everything, I tried looking up some guides but I couldn't find anything that walks you through the installation.
But I already uninstalled everything.
Okay, I'm about to download Daz 3d 4.6
Are these the recommended settings as far as Daz 4.6 goes?
Okay, I used the settings exactly the way I had them in the screen shot.
I guess my main issue is what settings and folders to put everything else into.
So my next question is ... how do I go about doing this part? Because this is where I mess everything up big time! lol
Can you look at my settings and see if everything is going as it should be?
I'll keep updating ASAP.
Edit: and if I do indeed need a shortcut, how / where should I put everything? In other words... I guess I'm just asking how exactly these shortcuts work, because I know with these shortcuts you can organize things better, but I wouldn't know where to start.
Leave EVERYTHING alone, DIM will put all your content in the Right folders by itself. You never need to do a thing other than Install. I have a 100% DIM Default (I never touched it) Content folder and a Pure DS4.6 instal. All I ever did was Change the Path to my content folder in DS4.6.
Here are all my things as they are right now.
EDIT: I have mine set to install to the Selected PATH in DIM.
