Here in the far western tip of New York State (southwest of Buffalo) it's not too hot. 86F (30C) but muggy. It's been worse and is much worse to the East, West, and South of us but the Lake Effect that gives us mountains of snow in winter is seeming to keep this county (Chautauqua) tolerable this week.

However, since I'm becoming an old fart and spending my retired life in my own home rather than air-conditioned corporate offices I finally broke down and bought an air-conditioner last week, so that I can vegetate in front of the TV in relative comfort.

Currently it is around 90 with the feel in the upper 90's., it was at 100 or a bit more earlier I'm located a bit west of Chicago. My dog doesn't like this heat, because we are refusing to walk her after work, she is being taken for her daily walk in the morning before it gets too unreasonable. Next week is suppose to be cooler.

I know short and choppy sentences.. brain melts with the temp

A Toronto police officer was doing a demonstration to show how hot it gets in vehicles, and why kids and pets should never be left inside them......he baked a batch of cookies in 15 minutes on the dashboard of his cruiser.

I refuse to answer this question.

I will not look at the weather reports to find out.

I refuse to even think about it.

But I can say that I have a window unit air conditioner I very rarely use (AC gives me headaches), and I have it set to 86 degrees. It is STILL working hard to maintain that temperature.

    Woof.

    Bow-Wow.

    Arf.

    Snarl, Growl, Foam-At-Mouth.

    Grunt.

    Moo.

    Belch.

    Excuse me.

    Meow.

    Quack.

    Roar.

    Fart.

    Pardon me.

    Oink.

    Ug.

    ...

    Ummmm...

    Yeah.

Really? I'm south of Buffalo myself, in an area termed "the snow belt" - not Ellicottville, but southern Erie County.

Anyway, the temp here was 87° earlier when I checked, and here's what it is now:

We are promised some rain after the weekend, but the temperatures are still going up. Ugh, methinks that may mean Thunder and lightning.

Yes, and as we have natural air conditioning, ie open windows we can get a nice cooling breeze through the cottage as well. Is actually cooloer indoors than out for us, as we live in an old stone built cottage.

I just checked, and it's 98, but feels like 106, here in NY City. Five day forecast is saying we should have a cooling trend starting Sunday, with temps in the low 80s.

    OK, is it Sunday yet?????

It's only 75 here, but it's been hotter the last few days, and there's pressure in the air. It definitely feels like it wants to storm.

Central New York. 90 degrees F, feels like 95. Forecast high of 95. Heat advisory until 8 PM. Supposed to cool off. Working on the new laptop. What is coming out of the cooling vents is cooler than the room air.

It's been getting on for 30 several times - this is my definition of awful weather. The garden is also in danger of blowing away.

According to my little weather station on the wall it is currently only 74F outside but at least we've got 82% humidity.

Temperature break has finally hit here.
Rain last night & this morning but now it's 66F (19C) Yea! Cool!

In scanning the replies in this thread I see lots of people complaining about 85F temperatures. In my first post I said that 86 was "tolerable", but then again I had lived in Florida for many years where 85 & humid is typical and great weather for outdoor activities like bike riding, or going to the beach. But in Florida the wise people run around half naked. Which is a great sight if they're young and beautiful or at least athletic, but less so if they're ancient, pudgy and wrinkled. 8-o That, my dear readers is why I am now in the north where exposed skin is still a Victorian taboo. I can't bring myself to go to the beach or even a public pool anymore where I would risk frightening the kiddies or seagulls.

Yeah, yesterday Port Jefferson got hit by a crazy Thunderstorm... its a real fun place to go if you like to watch wicked lightning... something about the water and hills probably.
Yesterday on the South Shore, I was siting in traffic on Sunrise Highway and the fairly accurate car thermometer was recording an outside air temperature of 117º F... My driveway air temp was 104º, checked against my weather station... Granted that was the air temperature around the the blacktop... who knows what the heat index was when you factor in the humidity. No wonder the roads keep buckling around here.
