Bloggity post.. quiet day, no disasters waiting for me when I came in from the doc. Too ho outside, though.. an dit's up to 99f.. I'm sure we'll break 100 in an hour or so.

More testing, testing, testing on Hot Project #2. Fixed a few bugs in legacy code, always nice. Now sitting and wathing code run.. snzzz.

Looking at hotels. The residence inn near Portland airport has great reviews and is affordable, but the only way in/out of the city is via light rail or cab... not sure how close the light rail is to the hotel. I'll email 'em. It'd cost about another $200 to stay downtown but it's easier to reach some things.. hmmph. I want to go to a place called the Lucky Devil Lounge, it's highly-rated for a "gentleman's club". :vampire:

Need to buy beer for Friday night on the way home tonight - I have 3-4 errands to run after work tomorrow so I won't get home until pretty late. Either that or put the errands off until Saturday.. will have to decide. :-S

Coffee soon, or I'm going to fall asleep at my desk! :gulp:

    :

...the Lucky Devil, yeah, near my area.

A big drawback of staying by the airport is the last Max train for the day leaves Downtown at 10:30 PM (weekdays) 10:43 (Saturdays/Sundays) making for a very early evening. However, there is a stop very close by the hotel (Mt Hood Ave station - almost spittin' distance from the hotel).

There are inexpensive motels closer in but you have to hunt for them. One site I use to find inexpensive accommodations is Booking.com as they list literally everything in the area you are looking at. You can even search in selected areas of a city. There is no fee, and no change penalty, cancellation penalty up to (I think) 48 hrs prior to your first night stay.

Taxi fares to the airport are extremely expensive and a lot of cabs use a meter that also goes by trip time as well as distance. Once I had to take a cab home after missing the last bus from the Hawthorne district and watched as the meter clicked off another 1.10$ while we were stuck at this long red light waiting to make a left turn.

Understood. I did notice the last MAX out of downtown wasn't that late, and OUCH about paying for sitting time - Texas cabs don't do that, it's all by the 1/10th of a mile.

I'll check Booking.com - I use Expedia for my flights and sometimes I get a price break if I bundle the hotel in. Every penny I save on hotel is more for partying! :snake:

My plan for the airport is to just use the light rail.. skip cabs if possible. That's another reason downtown is attractive, I bet I can rail/bus it to just about any hotel near, say, the waterfront.

My goal is to make my flight/hotel reservations by the first week of September. I've got all the info on getting my tablet PC and diabetes stuff through TSA so I feel warm and fuzzy about that. I'm still aiming for October 10th. to fly out there, not sure about flying back on the 14th or 15th.. I can afford to miss 2 days out of a week and still pay my bills (lol) but it'd be a bit tight if I stay the 14th.. will think on it more.

This will be my first out-of-state vacation in 10 years! :gulp: Normally I stay in-state or just within a Greyhound ride of my home city.

Next year - New Orleans! :cheese:

...when I do fly It's on Southwest because they have no luggage fees. The rub is you can only make reservations through their site as they don't show up on the other "cheep flights" websites.

Considering that even the Big Four (Ameriflot, Delta [ugh], United, and UselessAir) pretty much give you nothing but a cramped seat in coach these days either, at least I'm saving 50$ - 70$ a trip on baggage fees (and not risking ending up on one of those tiny commuter jets for several hours as all Southwest flights are "full sized" 737s).

Ameriflot and UselessAir? Why would any company call themselves UselessAir?

...nicknames for American Airlines (which kept buying and merging with other airlines, once making them the largest airline in the world similar to the old Soviet State airline, Aeroflot) and USAir (which is pretty much a comment on their service).

Zombie Nurse (to the tune of "Spider-Man")

    Zombie nurse, zombie nurse
    She's a serious nasty curse
    Look at her, she's undead
And she's coming to eat your head
    Look out!
Here comes the ZOMBIE NURSE! :bug:

Is she strong? Oh my Lord!
She kills dozens because she's bored
She can bite, chew and claw
Stuff your brain into her maw
    Look out!
Here comes the ZOMBIE NURSE! :ahhh:

In the dark of the night
As you hide there with a gun
    You'll let out a cry
As shes coming at a run! :gulp:

    Zombie nurse, zombie nurse
Look out buddy she's getting worse
    Blood and guts, everywhere!
But she still has perfect hair
Oh no! Here comes the ZOMBIE NURSE! :ahhh:

To her, life is a great big chow down
    Wherever people run 'round
You'll find the ZOMBIE NURSE! :bug: :gulp: :ahhh:

hehe the kinda nurse leaves body parts behind

Ah, a nice cold Sapporo, a hot veggie burger, and fresh content! :) Now for some tunes and I can relax a bit.

FYI, the Morningstar Farms pizza and basil veggie burgers are GOOD! No, they don't taste like a meat burger, but they're plenty tasty as a yummy patty of veggie goodness! Fried 'em up, out 'em in a flour tortilla, and oh yesssssssssss! I WILL be buying more of these! :cheese:

I'm dead - walking home from the store in 105f heat zapped out out, I managed to get the trash out but that was all she wrote. :bug: My shirt is SOAKED, too. :-S

But I have lots and lots of icy cold bbbbbbeeeeeeeerrrrrrr! (beer emote)

Wow, cool about your Dad!

I used to love flying, then I was in a pile of near and small accidents. Now I hate it with a passion.. BUT.. I'l going to get over myself and fly to my vacation places since even a bus takes 2-3 days and a train is wicked slow.

I wish I had the time and money to take the train everywhere. Maybe when I win the lottery. :-S

I'm starting to think you should be involved in writing the Saturday night movies for the Syfy Channel. I think the movie quality would improve dramatically. The art of writing a good, entertaining, or even silly B movie seems to have been lost. ;-)

I had a friend in high school who was...round. He went on a Campbell's Tomato soup diet and really trimmed down. I thought he maybe went a little too far, but he was OK. It was a big transformation. I couldn't just have tomato soup for that long. It would drive me crazy. :wow: (...er)

It's supposed to be really good for you, too. But alas, I don't care for squash. Although, I didn't like pumpkin pie for most of my life, but several years ago I tried some because the spices smelled good, and I liked it. So maybe I'll give it a try some day. Maybe. Maybe not. But maybe.
