Hello, and welcome! It looks like you did things right... ;-)
Being the last judge in gives me very little to critique that hasn't already been said. The composition and the artistic merit of your render are both good. On the technical side, one thing you might want to double-check is the surfaces - have you set the lighting model of the props to metallic or matte (as appropriate) instead of plastic? The sword and the candle look a bit off to me; that might be because of the Uber light you used, or it might be because of the lighting model, or it might be because of my monitor.
It's your brain Rob....it's off a bit....LMAO.
SPLAT!

... WAIT A MINUTE HERE! ... YOU WENT TO ALASKA AND DIDN'T INVITE ME? ...
Come into my office young lady and wipe that smile off your face! I guess you know I will be telling your parents on you and if you did, infact, run into Santa Clause while up there, you'de best tell me what I am getting for Christmas!!!!!!
ok...run along and play now.

Hey it's the tennis girl...lol. I do have one question for you. The reason is...you ONLY have ten freebies here and this could matter. Why would someone want to use two different skin shaders on one character? If you can give me a good reason, I will accept this entry. I will wait to hear from you first though. Help me understand why two different shaders for skin and I can't tell the difference with only one! (#2 and #3)
:-)
Nice!

I can answer this. Tofu's "shader" is very much like the Uber Surface shader in that it changes the settings but does not provide a "texture." The "Far East Girls" are actually the skin texture.

What, just "a bit"?

Hey how did you know I saw Santa. He was visiting Ketchikan at the time. He said the list had not been finalized so what you are getting for Christmas is still up in the air. I am betting on a lump of coal. Any other takers as to what music is going to get for Christmas?
I think he is going to get a rusty wheel hub for one of his cars.

Original post has been updated, more freebies have been added! :)
I like the changes, except the water. The beach toys and the other people add a little bit of interest, but don't overpower the main subject...especially thanks to the depth of field effect.
Dana
Yeah, don't ask me why I though the extremely bright blue water was a good thing......but don't worry, I've already got an improved version rendering as we speak :D
Well, it's better than the purple water.
Eventually there comes a time when you have to say "enough, this is finished, it's time to go on to the next project" - the alternative is continuing to polish the first project far past the point where anyone will notice the differences. Perfect is the enemy of good... Don't get caught up in the search for perfection.

Yeah, I'll probably call the next render the final version, from what I can see so far, the water's looking much better than it did when it was bright blue :)

I disagree, I think the water was better before. After all, look at the sky behind the palm trees...oranges and purples.
But, Cyonix, make sure it's the last thing...I can't remember, but I thought you only had 3 edits to an image in the rules...unless that changed, too.
Dana
Pretty sure the edit rule is still in effect. And this is the reason we made that rule. When you start changing your render once you have entered it, this is what tends to happen. My personal opinion on that one is... Spend an extra day or two critiquing your own render BEFORE you enter. This way you are able to see your faults before hand. I myself will stare at mine for several days looking for lighting, flow of the render, making sure things are in clear view, etc.... and the rule is so that people don't make major changes as well which I have also seen this month. Music has been very lenient with all of you on this rule because of the special meaning behind this months theme and our honoring our dear friend BWSman. But don't expect us to continue this trend in future months folks.
Alright, original post updated for the final time, I promise. :)
Also, just an FYI, but after taking a look through the rules in the first post of this thread AND the sticky which also lists the rules, I didn't see anything in the rules that state what the maximum number of edits per entry is (or if there even is a maximum number of edits...)
You are right cyonix. Music didn't have it in his rules post. I believe it was a topic of discussion several months ago and was agreed that 3 edits was the limit. He may have overlooked this because, well don't know why it didn't get in the rules page. But after this month it probably will be added. Those that have been around since music took charge remember this discussion. Newbies wouldn't know this. When I do my annual Winter Wonderland in December I will make sure that this is included in the months rule. As I stated before, when we start editing renders they take on different meanings. I will probably make it that if you change the composition of the render that it will need to be a new entry.or something like that
Nice pirate scene Alexa. I went ahead and added the other two links for the M4 Nicholus skin texture you used, just in case someone wants the entire character and all his parts. All looks good here. Nice wood shader...no link?
ENTRY ACCEPTED.
Thank you, Music. :3
Ah, yes, the wood shader was a free gift for Christmas some years back on the old site, and now the link has gone bad. Such a shame, since it was such a nice shader...
BTW, the gallery has been updated. ^_^
Alexa
Car stuff?...YES!.....wha?...rusted?....nevermind!
:cheese:
Now see...that's what happens when one of my ETOs is paying attention. Yes we did reach a three edit limit on the entries, but it never got added to the rule list. My bad there. And yes, I have been nice this month because I loved "B" so much, I want this to be his month. So next month I am going to clean house...LMAO.
No, actually, most of you guys have been good with your renders, but the problem with this challenge, and it ALWAYS happens is, one person will do something, then all these folks come out of nowhere and want me to start bending the rules for them too. If I don't, then they start complaining to Daz about he did, she did. Daz are our sponcers ONLY. They have nothing to do with the challenge except provide you nuts with a space to play, and give you prizes and gifts for winning....oh, and provide you with a nice lady with a club to bonk you with when you are being naughty. I'd say thats a pretty darn good deal for FREE! Oh...and they give you the program to make these wonderful renders for FREE also. Pretty darn nice folks I'd say! So quit complaining you dogs and get to work rendering and having fun. Both required to be up in here.
I will allow the edited renders to remain as they are, but please no more editing more than three times to any of you that have exceeded that number.
:-)
Too late...been there...done that...added the rule....bought the T shirt and posters.
:-)
GRNgiant7713....check your pm box for a little something from me to you. Thank you for your courage and support for Ron. Everyone needs a brother like you in the family.
:-)
Thank you so much! Yeah she likes to look pretty while she plunders, LOL!
Cyonix, as the others have already pointed out, you met the limits and made a nice render. The water apparently improved, however, as it was said, if you want, you can still fiddle with it. Frankly, I don't have much experience with rendering water, but I know there are several nicely-looking props in the shop if you like (Sickleyield made a rigged water if I recall correctly, for instance). I can always recommend trying different values of transparency to make it semi-transparent, changing textures and so on. I'd start with the default RGB turquoise and then tweak it further. Clara for K4 was available at ShareCG and I have it, so I believe it can still be grabbed. Now it is at RuntimeDNA here (click on the title to get a zip). The overall style is like a holiday tour poster :).
For the last time, folks, PLEASE PM ME ON XYLIA/HARLOW TEXTURES! The contest is almost over and I need to make the decision urgently.
Remind me what the question was again. I've been distracted (more than usual).
Remember that the surface of water is reflective, and that the color is actually determined by what it is reflecting. That is why, mostly, water appears blue most of the time, because it's reflecting the sky. But in that image, the sky it should be reflecting is not blue. The palm trees are reflected so the sky behind them must also be the driving factor in the reflected colors.
Just my tiny observations. Do what you will with them.
Dana

I need to gather a list of participants who have either Xylia Double French Braids or Harlow from AprilYSH. The version doesn't matter. This will help me decide whether there is a place for making texture sets as awards or not. Alexa Sears has already responded, I'm very thankful for this. I'd like to know your opinion on the matter, so please don't hestitate to contact me. I think a PM would be best to avoid extending the thread too much, thanks :).
THAT'S why I couldn't find it.....thanks for the link!
Well, I'll skip the PM and cut right to the chase -- I have neither. Does that help? Sorry!
