Never happen, but I wish they would make the head and body morphs part of the starter essentials. We already have to pay $45.00 for the "base" figures - do we really need to spend another $40.00 on the morphs?

Agreed with four or five skin tones from the go. And make the morphs and skins Merchant resources as part of the base package to promote diversity.

The Genesis bases are free; only derivatives are charged for.

The base figures are free for the current generations - in Starter Essentials. Or do you mean one of the Name 8 characters?

I think they mean the head, body and expression morphs, which are paid-for, separate items.

  • But... They mention paying $45 for the base figure.

A major problem with including the head and body morphs with pro bundles is that you either repeat content for bundles if it's in every pro bundles, which is going to make people unhappy, or it will be seen as showing favoritism for (or against) the pro bundle that includes them, which is going to make people unhappy.

I simply want the five different skin tones for the base figure when it is produced to represent a wider spectrum of humanity. The face and body morphs that normally require an additional expenditure should be included and once more, you should make them Merchant Resources BUT only for sale of figures at the DAZ store. It would offer a damn good reason to upgrade, it would give creators a starting point, and would lead to a sizeable amount of diversity in the figures for sale. Once more, the people would have tools to make their own characters but creators would get a huge head start as well and those figujres created for sale with those morphs would have to be sold at the DAZ store meaning more profit for DAZ.

  • Epressions have allways been a weak part of DAZ figures. Renember cheeks and lips usually stretch, when the mouth is opened. G8 has better expressions than G3 and I hope G9 will have better expressions than G8.  ;-)

I totally agree with that. Good expressions driven by facial bones are vital for making good animations of talking and showing emotions. Nevertheless some bones driven morphs for folds will be needed.

IMO, the more nearly the rigging emulates the actual skeleton (with weight-mapping the facial muscles, we can now more plausibly hinge the jaw!  Hint.  Hint....), the better the figure's movement will be—provided that the mesh supports it!  I also second the independantly-rigged toes request, but there's no need to rig every toe knuckle.

Tell me I'm wrong, but I think that only the base mesh is weighted. The weighting on the HD mesh is simply interpolated. With very small bones, you may run into issues with a low res mesh. So they use HD morphs for that. This seams to be a technical limitation.

    As I understand it:

    1. SD morphs deform the SubD cage (the base resolution).
    2. The weights are on the vertices of the SubD cage and that is what is deformed by posing.
    3. Then SubD process is applied to the posed and morphed cage.
    4. Then HD morphs are applied to the virtual vertices created by the SubD process.

  • My suggestion for Gen 9 would be to not have one unless it would be for a radically new improvements in the application.  Rather to introduce incremental improvements and changes over time to Gen 8.

Unfortunately with the reality of the business models for this industry, that will probably not occur.

Eh, I'd prefer a new figure. Even Gen 3-to-Gen 8 had big enough advances to justify a new one and I expect Gen 9 to see bigger jumps than that.

Continue to include 3DL materials, or a conversion utility and I'll be happy.

Unfortunately theer are quite a few things, such as mesh and rigging, that can't be imporved within a single figure but which require a new figure.

Seems to me that real men come with these items and lately they seem to cause nothing but trouble ...........

Sorry, yes I meant the "named" figures...Victoria, Aiko, Michael, etc. If you only buy one figure (say, Victoria), then that figure costs you $85.00. If you pay $180 for the Pro Bundle, you still have to pay another $40.00 for the head/body morphs. So the Pro Bundle, and the incorrectly named "Starter" Bundle, are incomplete without also buying the head/body morphs, since you can't actually use any of the included figures without the additional morphs.

  • I agree with Isosceles with the morph thing. When I first downloaded DS a few years ago, I though it was cool, but at the time I was taking screen shots in Skyrim and such for my "renders" There are so many bazillion things you can do to customize your character in that game that once I found out I needed to pay $80 ($20x4, for male and female) just to change the faces up a bit and the bodies I put this down. I got into some other, like, bargain bin pose/rendering programs, and since have moved to this again. If not for free then there should be an actual Starter Bundle. Not a character started bundle, a Genesis 9 Starter Bundle. Like a DIY bundle, with the basic morphs, expressions, and a few different skin tones for different ethnicities. I know this would be a good starting point for a lot of people, and if something like that were available to me back when I first check the program out, I may have been a paying customer, buying stuff a lot longer ago.

While I would agree that the morphs are pretty much essential for many of us, they aren't more essential for use with the Name characters than with the base - and most character add-ons, for the base or for the Names, seem to be fully custom morphs (plus the Name morph if appropriate). I would regard the head and Body morphs as a purchase that is made to use the base to its full extent, not as something needed to use the Name characters.

    Dear Daz figure creators

For Genesis 9 Female, please fix the toenail beds. extra especially 1st, 3rd, 5th toes on left foot,

and please would be really nice to toggle her individual toes and toes_2s invisible

    thank youyes

    Hey Mistara,

Could you explain the toenail beds need fixing?  Is there something wrong with the geometry?  I do foot morphs all the time so I am super interested. The older Gen 3 characters had alot of unnessesary geometry under the toenails that were a huge pain when reshaping toenails.  Geometry under the toenails would protrude thought the toenail itself causing hotpixels in Octane.  Gen 8 fixes that, and makes it so much easier to morph.  I hope we don't go back to geometry under the toenails....no need.  All you need is a good toenail diffuse map.  Same with the hands.  Do like the idea of more bones in toes and heel.  Here is a quick render of toe morphs I created for Murphy rendered in Octane.

I liked in Genesis 3 that nails sat on a solid surface. I don't like in Genesis 8 that if you remove nails, there's a hole underneath; it's very inconvenient to making monster stuff, and would like to go back to Genesis 3 design in subsequent models.

That said, I suspect the G8 design makes it easier to work with and morph for regular humans, so I wouldn't expect my more marginal interest to take precedence.

Much easier to work with the current Gen 8 toenails!  laugh

No, thank you bluejuante, for always raising the bar on those fantastic characters you create!!

Yes, this. And add 5 variations of Skin tone as well from very pale to very dark and make ALL of it a Merchant Resource. More variety.

I've been around this hobby since about 1997 or so and since the dawn of Vicky and Mike the morphs have always been a separate purchase, so I don't see that changing any time soon. I wouldn't complain if it were part of the essentials tho ;).

  • Better autofit/compatibility with SHOES from different generations. I realize the rigging is tougher with feet, but man, it shouldn't be impossible. I'd like to be able to use some Gen2/3 shoes on Gen8 or above without serious issues.

I would like more geometry in the ears. The last couple of generations, the ear morphs for elves haven't been as elegant.

Innovation requires change. Just because something has always been done a certain way doesn't mean it s the best way. Think outside the box and the benefit of it if they did.and its completely plausible and simple for the company to do.
