Anyone ever had the ships load up with reversed textures/writing?  Not all of them, quite a few have loaded up for me like this:

This can sometimes be corrected by adjusting the horizontal/vertical tiles in the Surfaces tab, but it doesn't always work.  In some cases (but again not always), you can go into the texture files and manually reverse the images or text.  Any idea why this happens, and how it can be avoided?  Thanks.

You are more than likely going to need to import the texture into photoshop or Gimp and reverse the lettering to make it work. Whoever made the textures just reversed the textures and didn't reverse the lettering to make it work correctly.

That's what I was afraid of.  I was really hoping for an easier fix.  I've done it with several ships in the past, and it's a pain.  Ah well.  Worth a shot.  Thanks for the response.  Much appreciated.

Sorry I didn't have a better option for you. It should be a pretty simple fix. If you need help with it send me a note and I will be happy to help you out.

Oh, no.  Nothing to be sorry about.  It's not anybody's fault, it's just the way it goes sometimes.  The real problem I was having with this shuttle is that it doesn't come with any texture files that I can reverse by hand.

That's what made me wonder if there was another alternative.

Thanks, buddy.  I appreciate it.  No rush.

On a different note, does anyone know if there is any way to find some of the old uploads from http://www.foundation3d.com and Richard Merk?  Their links are down.

I just took a look at this and all there is for it is an obj file, I have no way to edit the texturtes for it, sorry I couldn't help more

No worries.  I didn't figure there was much that could be done.  I just thought I'd ask others who had more experience than me just in case.  I appreciate it all the same.

  • Could it be that the normals are coming in reversed? When I tried to load it into Studio it came in upside down on it's top.

Same here, but I couldn't figure out any way to fix it.

Normals affect which side is the outside, they don't affect the way maps apply

If this is an OBJ import, check the options dialogue doesn't have the Y axis inverted.

I will, thanks.  The problem is when importaing it, it doesn't load with any of the textures, and there are no texture files available to add manually.  I'll play around with it a little bit more though and see what happens.

Depends on the model you're importing and the way the program that created it handles the textures. Like you said, sometimes it can be fixed with sliders, but a lot fo times you have to just flip the textures unless you're going to take the model and import it again after fixing it in another program.

Thanks to everyone for the responses.  I've found a solution thanks to TrekkieGal.  After you load up the ship from props, set the size value to -100 and it will turn the ship rightside up with corrected textures.  I tried it myself and it worked perfectly.

Mattymanx has some (not all) of the stuff he converted in his (?) Deviant Art page: https://www.deviantart.com/mattymanx

The same for Rich Merk here: https://www.deviantart.com/richmerk, though he has also some of his stuff in renderosity: https://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/contributor/richmerk

  • Having some trouble finding the RQ V4 hair 001 that used to be at http://qraffx.blogspot.com/2010/01/simple-v4-hair-freebie.html. ; Does anyone know where I could find it, or perhaps even reupload?  Thanks so much.

The readme doesn't give permission to redistribute.

  • I'm just going to drop this here. It's still a work in progress but I turned G8 into Star Trek Online's Default female.

  • I still have to work out the issue of the teeth clipping through the upper lip then I'll bring her into DAZ.

Awesome.  I wish more stuff was being created/updated for G8.

I know what you mean, it's a shame most of the stuff freely available is generation 4. I'm using g8 for a trek comic and have found enough things to get by and making a few bits but nothing worth sharing so far. I've been trying to make a decent ferengi but so far haven't been happy with the results.

  • My method of converting characters to G8 Could potentially work for V4/M4 characters as well. I still need to give it a try but I'm pretty sure it will work.

  • Here we have Admiral McCarthy hitching a rode and getting ready to shower when she suddenly has the question "Lieutenant, whjy are you in my quarters?"

Just a little TNG pinup action with a custom character (Cross of Victoria 8 and Aubrey 8).

I on that note do still have Wertz's morphs. Those are the ones I want to test my hypothesis on.

  • Update. My method worked.

So low and behold Wertz' Captain Kirk ported to G8.

  • hey since apparently this thread is for all things star trek, and to avoid searching through so many pages, im gonna ask:

is there a model of the vengeance for daz and poser? i found one that was an object but was only "inspired" by it.

the vengeance and its look was pretty much the only thing i liked of beyond.

Vanishingpoint has a model of the Vengeance bridge. As with the many others, it costs around $10.  The textures are a free additional download.

Sorry to take so long to answer.  I didn't do any sort of simulation, if that is what you are asking, but is says it is "conforming". I got the uniform on Deviant Art from the provided link, where they say:

The package contains a conforming Star Trek Uniform for Genesis 8 Female, and four textures - Command, Medical, Operation, and Science. The dress comes with various morphs for posing and adjustments.
