Great !
Now, the unsolved mystery, What was it that trashed your hosts - file?
I bought the new computer in early August, I doubt it came without the file.
I used Migration Assistant to transfer the data from my old computer, Could it have happened then?
Not being tech savy I could have deleted the file while doing something else.
It's hard to know.
Could be migrating and that the IP was already taken, but I've read that this could happen when switching from demo version of Adobe Creative Cloud to the real version of it, or maybe when deleting demo version (not confirmed though). But now if it happens again, you know where to look.
Yes I do, thanks to you.
I'm saving this thread!
I don't use a mac but I looked at my log file too after having some issues with the connection between DIM and DS, and after uninstalling files with DIM they were still active in DS. This is what the last lines of the dblog.txt file says:
CSTLOG: database system is ready to accept connections
LOG:autovacuum launcher startedFATAL: role "JILL" does not exist
I don't get any POSTGREsql errors but there are other errors in the txt file saying checkpoints are occuring too frequently 12 seconds try increasing configure parameter and other warnings
Any idea why this is?
PostgreSQL happily do thimgs like that, I wouldn't worry.
Ok doesn't seem to effect the use of DIM or studio, so I guess if it's not broke don't fix it lol
exactly !
Totte, I'm having issue similar to what you're describing but I'm still having trouble with some things, im guessing permission issues as i've been randomly having them as of late. .
My current issue is that dblog.txt spits out, FATAL: role "orion" does not exist.
At First is was getting: FATAL: data directory "/Users/orion/Library/Application Support/DAZ 3D/cms/ContentCluster" has group or world access
DETAIL: Permissions should be u=rwx (0700).
I fixed that from the terminal.
Then I got the error: FATAL: pg_hba.conf rejects connection for host "[local]", user "oriongarcia", database "postgres", SSL off
I opend pg_hba.conf and manually changed reject to trust. That got me further.
Now i get:
LOG: database system is ready to accept connections
LOG: autovacuum launcher started
FATAL: role "orion" does not exist
Note: in terminal, that cat command you posted seems to be correct
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost
fe80::1%lo0 localhost
You have any suggestions on where to look next?

The login errors you do not need to fix, that's "normal".
If you updated to 10.15.3 the permission problem was probably your issue as the updater "repair permissions" does stupid things to postgres permissions.
What is the issue you still have?
Thanks for the reply.
Currently the issue i have, is that new asset packs i buy don't load. Daz3d will say .duf file not found and it points to /data/ folder, when I manually check, everything is installed.
That suggests that you are installing to one location from DIM while Studio is looking for the data folder in a second location.
If this is 4.12.0.86, and the paths are definitely correct, Rob suggest that a bug (fixed in the current Public Build) may be at issue: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/change_log#4_12_1_35
@Richard, might be, we need a dump from the Content Directory Manager window to know, @orion_b8d601a535, can you supply that?
I've been through many pages on this forum regarding solutions trying everything offered to get a PostreSQL CMS connection to work. There are no conflicts with my firewall and has never been the case since using any version of Daz3d. I've uninstalled and reinstalled including the Daz program 5 times now, even attempting to change the port numbers that after a restart of Daz to note it has reverted back to whatever numbers were originally there. And still can't find a connection. I'm on macOS High Sierra. It's clear there is no One Fix Fits All to this problem that goes across both Windows and Mac. I've never had to change any admin rights in the past to get Daz3d to work. And noting now since doing a fresh install of Daz Studio when starting up am no longer being asked with a popup to accept any connection. I'm about to give up and move back to using Poser. Sorry and one very disappointed user that has spent money on some great content I can't use because of this problem. Not unless I'm willing to have to look through all the folders to find it and to build scenes which defeat the whole purpose of the user content interface and no access to the features.
Changing the port number not sticking does sound like a permissions issue. However, you say it is apparently now working to thee xtent that you no longer get the pop-up on launch - or do you mean soemthing else with the comment about a pop-up asking you to accept a connection?
Edit: Here's how it worked for me on a Mac 10.13.6, Daz Studio 4.12:
After I was reading comments in this help thread and in this thread i noticed my folder in /Application Support/DAZ 3D/cms/ContentCluster is empty. I deleted the whole cms folder, Un & Re-installed PostgreSQL, closed everything and opened Daz up - boom - it worked!
Hey Totte, I saw you're an expert in this so I'll ask you.
I tried pretty much everything to get this thing running but there's no such file in my ContentCluster directory.
I'm having this CMS issue that it seems like others have been having in the past. I've tried several of the work arounds that others have used both here and elsewhere, to no avail.
One of the things I've noticed is that in Catalina (10.15.3) is that pgAdmin3 is crossed out. So I downloaded pgAdmin4 hoping that would fix the problem, but sadly it has not. It does seem like pgAdmin3 is the problem... or atleast part of it since none of the reinstalles have fixed the CMS issues and it keeps showing up as crossed out regardless of what I do.
PGAdmin has nothing to do with it, it's a tool to admin the database and is included with the distribution.
Hce you checked the database file owner and rights? The disk fixup in the 10.15.3 installer ruins them.
I've given just about every possible folder read/write privlages for any of the groups it will allow me to. Which has fixed the CMS message issue atleast.
However the new issue is all the my smart content is grey (not installed). When I look in the library it's all there and Install Manager says it's there also.
In the ~/Applicstion Support/Daz 3D/cms/Content Cluster/ is a file named dblog.txt. It's the postgres log file.
the postgres database file should only be accessible by the owner and the owner must be you,
The disk priv fixer in the 10.15.3 installer changes the file privs of those files, so it's not a matter of to few privs but to much.
Ok, I've found that file (dblog.txt) the only privlages are mine which is the admin with read/write and everyone with No Access. So what should the dblog file be set to?
I've openned the txt file as you've sugguested in other replies, here's what the text file is showing me:
LOG: database system was shut down at 2020-03-08 11:12:03 EDT
LOG: autovacuum launcher started

FATAL: pg_hba.conf rejects connection for host "[local]", user "skotwhitman", database "postgres", SSL off

OK, the db starts ok , but this enrty:
suggests that something is not correct with the database structure , any idea what program (DIM or DAZ Studio) you ran between 2020-03-08 11:12:03 EDT & 2020-03-08 11:25:29 EDT?
would have only been Daz 4.12.0.86 or the Public Beta 4.12.1.76 Which i have to use the beta seems to be the only way i can swap out texture files I created or modified for existing Daz products.
OK, then I guess your database files sin't very happy. Can you connect to it from DS? Then you could do Reset Database and then Reimport Metadata.
Ok, I'll try that, thanks for all your help, mac users weould be completely screwed if you were not here answering questions lol
Yes! reimporting the meta data seems to have fixed the problem, Thanks again for your help!
I downloaded this package and it removed the message. https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files#prod_13176
Unfortunately I am having the same problem and it is driving me mad. I opened a ticket with DAZ Technical support a few days ago. Nobody is answering. So this forum is my last hope.
I have MacOS Mojave 10.14.6. When I open freshly installed DAZ Studio 4.12.1, I get the warning - "A valid PostgreSQL CMS connection could not be established..." My DAZStudio log file is full of warnins like this one:
Or like this one:
WARNING: /src/sdksource/cloud/ dzcloudtasknotifier.cpp(178): Unexpected exception in CloudFIle::lookupFromDb: Unable to connect to the database
When I was trying to find the file dblog.txt, I could not find it! The folder ContentCluster is also missing. My first thougt was that the folder and file are simply hidden from vewing. Nope, this is not the case.
When I try to change the portal number, the old number reappears. In effect, I am unable to change the port number. Also I tried to make special rules for DAZ in the firewall. It did not make any difference.
I am stuck. I tried to uninstall and reinstall DAZ Studio three times already. I use Install Manager. PostgreSQL is installed but CMS connnection fails. Can you help me?
