Anyone Ever Use GamePrint?

  • Here's a few different sizes from 2" to 7" to 9" to unpainted STL 12"

  • Here's the latest models that GamePrint did for me.  This is a 12" collectable model.

Ivy base looks to have a rather whippy sword, but is my favorite.

That looks great. I have a question though. Because there are two figures, where you charged differently or did they charge you a flat rate for the just model size, 12"?

  • You pay for two figures...

That's because I stored in a clear cylinder container with bent the sword.  The material is flexible when it is thin so it wasn't a problem

  • That one (7")  is hand painted.  The 9" next to it is color printed.

Those look to be simulated dyed sandstone?

No.  They are colored resin. Unlike Sanstone, the material is very tough and the color saturation is much better.  The color is applied much in the same way an inkjet.

  • So, how does this plugin work exactly?  I just hit the Download STL button (I have my own printer) and it uploaded the file...and then nothing, no confirmations or payment requests or anything.  I have no idea if it got through or not.  Additionally, the links in the plugin (such as the "promotions" or the "need help" links) don't appear to work for me?

Until recently, once you hit the "Download STL" button and it's uploaded the file it used to switch over to your browser where it would build some quick preview images (from different angles) and give you the option to choose 3", 7" or 12", Custome ($50) or Standard ($2) and once it had your credit card info and you've accepted, it would charge your card and start fixing the model. I've had over 150 "fixes" done since late September, and I'm a huge fan of their work. However, in recent weeks I've had trouble choosing any size but 3" with any success (choosing 7" or 12" with "Standard" and while it would bring up the payment box and I would okay it, it would say it's accepted the payment but the payment never goes through and instead of swtiching to "Processing" window, it just stops with the curser pulsing/rotating forever.

Since late last week, all of my 3-inch "fixes" are stuck at "1%". I've contacted them and I've heard back but what they asked me to try suggested they misunderstood the problem, so I've sent another mail -- with screenshots -- and I'm waiting to hear back.

You can take a try yourself, as it's always possible that I'm the only one having problems. They're not always the fastest in responding to support emails, but they do respond and they are helpful. More importantly, they do a great job. I've had things stuck in their queue since last Thursday, but I trust that they'll get things going again.

If you do want to take a try at it, let us know how it goes; once my stuff starts moving again, I'll post here as well.

    Hope that helps.

  • Well, the plugin is working better now, managed to get to the purchase point this time, but I seem to be having the same eternally rotating cursor problem you were having...  frown

It seems to be working fine now for 3-inch fixes, but asking for 7-inch or 12-inch sends it to the infinity spin.

I'm not sure what size you're having the model fixed at or if you've done a lot of testing, but I've found that it's better to have it fixed at a smaller size and enlarge it when you slie it rather than to have it fixed at a larger size and then scale it down when slicing. If I needed to print a 5-inch model, for example, I'd have it fixed as 3" and scale it when I print it. While having it fixed at 3-inch loses a little of the finer detail, when you scale it to 5" and print everything in the 3-inch model thickens a bit, but no detail from the 3-inch model is lost. When you have it fixed at 7-inch, a little bit more of the finer details are in the .stl, but when you scale it to 5-inch not only is the extra detail lost, pieces of thinner geometry disappear. Layers of hair or clothing -- skirts, for example -- print perfectly when scaled from 3-inch to 5-inch, but disappear completely when scaled down to 5-inch. In one instance, I had a character fixed at 7-inch and needed to print it at 3-inches -- the sides of the head disappeared and when it printed you could look into the head from either side and see the eyeballs still in place.

  • Thanks for the tips.  wink  Model is currently processing now.  smiley

  • Hmm, note to self, delete eyelashes before processing...  lol  Looks pretty good otherwise.

It’s always a good idea to take a minute (or three) and double- and triple-check everything at the GamePrint site; in one case, I had a set of eyebrows accidentally selected on the character I uploaded and If I’d hit the “Pay” button too quickly, that’s all that would have been fixed. Another time, I changed the settings to a Standard Fix ($2), then changed the size to 7”, and didn’t notice that it had changed the fix to “Custom Fix” ($50). They’re always updating their site to make it better, but that means that it might not be working 100% the way it did last week. Overall, I have nothing but praise for their service. It’s no more perfect than anyone else’s, but it’s pretty darn good and they do try their best and do their best to help me out, even when the goof-ups are all mine. wink

    Greetings,

@ggartist - That 7" hand-painted model is unreal; is that 'collectable' hand-painted, or standard hand-painted?  The 12" collectable model, with two figures is also amazing.

Dammit; I love this stuff, and wish I had time to do this.  I just got a lighted curio cabinet for our house (for the many commercial figurines and small statuettes we have).  The DAZ sandstone statue has a good position in it, thankfully out of reach of the children now.  I'd love to put a character of my own in it, but I don't have anything that I consider 'mine' enough.

Well, maybe my fox...  Anybody try fur with it?

Good to hear! Everything seems to be working perfectly, I've had a few 3-inch and a 7-inch done today without issues.

... but a model I thought I set to 12" was processed as 3". I'll try again tomorrow, but so far the 3" and 7" came through beautifully.

I know you can't use any items from other sites. But what about items that you create with other programs (e.g. clothes made in Marvelous Designer, Blender or Hexagon)?

Should be able to; I've used custom items in my scene that I've made in Lightwave and uploaded them using the DAZ plug-in.

  • I ordered a 5" figure, never did this before so wasn't sure what I was doing.  I used the plug in and ordered it.  Emailed them to make sure I did it right and they said yes. Took a few months because I think the pandemic and such slowed them down, but what I got looks amazing.

I ordered a print from them earlier this year.  I think from the time I ordered it to the time I got it took about 3-4 months.  After 2~ months I emailed them to ask what was going on and they said they had shut down their faculty due to covid at the time.  Would have been nice to get an email that production was on hold, but meh. indecision

My experience may be anomalous due to reccent events.

I will say the print quality was very nice.  I'd happily order from them again.

I went with a solid white colour print since I do a lot of minature painting as a hobby, they paint up very well if you are into that sort of thing.

  • While I do have a 4" and 8" model from them, I mostly needed 2" miniatures printed.  Something that GamePrint promised but never delivered.  However, last I checked their STL service still worked.  So I use the Gameprint pluggin to upload to their server and buy the corrected STL for $2, clean it up on my system, then send it to Shapeways for printing.

Note, the stl's from Gameprint are enourmous for their type.  You'll need to at least half the resolution on them to get down to a filesize printing services will allow.
