Ooops. After the show we were informed that the stream broke early on! :( The recording of the show continued, however, so they posted the whole show here:

    Rock on, Dart!

The cover of Keep Your Hands to Yourself brings back nice memories way back when I was a grad student in Virginia.  Very popular at the favorite dive bar, which I am sad to say has closed for good.

Thanks! Yeah, the lighting in that studio is really great. My singer, with the help of the city and other sponsors put in over $30,000 USD into the lighting system there. It's a cool old building that ships used to be built in! Would make for a great spot to film a Sci Fi or Steam Punk film.

    been quiet here

I've noticed that, also, even as I work daily in Carrara, inspired by some great models from great vendors.  E.g a seven level Poser format yacht with helipad, bridge, a complete gym, pools, elevator, movie theater, 4x indoor lounges,3x dining areas, 7x bedrooms (2 ensuite), 2x bathrooms, kitchen, engine room, 1000+ props ... great "set" for a lot of stories.  All for less than the price of a Tex-Mex meal.

So maybe quiet because of ... well, here on the Texas Gulf Coast there's a virus, there's a hurricane approaching, and there's an asteriod coming.  I'm getting close to a bingo on my 2020 bingo card.  Another chemical plant explosion and Astros cheating scandal, I should have a winner.

    surprise

I am trying to figure out how to make my Skyrim characters dance

using the Creation Kit and console commands not some dodgy Russian mod

    vanilla Cicerodances are fine

can do it but they only do it once for a second, I cannot get them looping

thinking will need to swap out all my idles in CK

by saving as a plugin I can disable it on load if want normal idles

reading up apparently the Havok system is actually not accessible to mods, the existing ones do in fact swap out other animations such as idles so this might be my best option

Still no word from Misty?  If you are lurking, hope you are getting well.

Wendy, I have no idea what most of your last post refers to, but I hope the mods become accessible, or not accessible - whichever is better.

Steve K, in Fort Worth there is West Nile virus on the rise.  Hope its not a thing for Houston, but given mosquito association with water, it probably is.  Be careful over there!

I'm feeling really down these days, as I suppose many of us are.  Trying to think of a project that could help jolt me out of the funk.

I am probably going to give up.

the game modding community seems to be only largely interested in degrading pornography TBH.

I have a pile of awesome mods installed for Skyrim over 20 but every last one of them improves textures, lighting and environment, making my game do deviant stuff never appealed to me.

We have it in the DAZ community too, some like rendering beautiful scenes but a huge number are obsessed with the G8F breasts and anatomical elements blush and realistic scenes of a nature that I have no desire to view.

I was hoping to do stuff other than alter textures, shaping and ai behaviour in the Skyrim Creation Kit but animation seems to require 3Dstudio MAX by every tutorial I have seen.

Rather like I use Carrara etc, to do animated stuff.

Yes, agreed.  We do have water and mosquitos here in the Houston area, which was basically built on a swamp.  I always laugh when they tell us to get rid of any standing water.  After one of our heavy rains, the big city park next to my house has big puddles for weeks at a time.

The Houston Chronicle today had a headline: "Flu season is fast approaching
Midland Health CEO: It is important that we not add a significant flu outbreak to the COVID outbreak"

I've read so much about potential disasters, I may give up reading.  surprise

well I have my player doing the cicerodance now as his idle after mimicing the BSAopt extracted folder structure in data and renaming it to the idle and putting it there!

guess I need to do all my bespoke NPC's now too

the general ones are all dancing when idle

my Skyrim is a very joyful place laugh

I've felt this way in the past few months. Sorry I haven't participated in much discussion. Everyone here does such clever and awesome work.
Meanwhile, I have like 5+ different Carrara experiments laying around as notes and ideas on scraps of paper along with various test files...that all kind of puttered out.

I did start back to work this week, part time for now, hopefully it will pick up. I was a little nervous about returning - I work for a food delivery service that picks up from on campus venues only, which in the past were packed with students. Now we pick up from 1 of 2 locations devoted exclusively for couriers; temperature check upon entering, masks at all times. Of course, the whole thing could easily shut down again...

Yeah, or something akin to that. "Stay focused for 2 hours a day" would be an improvement for me. I often start something, look for inspiration or help online, then get easily distracted by some related concept (or unrelated...) often demonstrated in another software and then wonder "...can we do that in Carrara?"

So, I have seen this asked before, sorry for re asking, but asking out loud again in hopes of a work around...:

Can we save a 'Weight Map' made from an internally object created in Carrara?

It's...frustrating, no matter my approach to weighting bones...if I have to make a minor adjustment...'Detach' and 'Attach' Skeleton is 100% destructive to weighting bones. Too much fussy work can vaporize. crying

Why? Please, please tell me I'm misssing something.

some silly notions go through my tiny brain sometimes.

have lots of old clothes no good for charity and was wondering if I should stuff some with others and sew them into stuffed dummies to scatter around the house, have old gloves too for hands socks for feet,

they might need to be headless though surprise

DesertDude - the sticky lip model looks cool. Consider a revival.

Speaking of revivals, here is an old toon figure project that I may revisit.  Three fingers, oversize head, globular body - standard stylized stuff.  I started with the edge flow that I wanted for the mouth and eyelids and then built out from there.  Never finished it though.  I got sidetracked by starting a project on more explicitly claymation heads (a chin that slides down to represent opening the mouth, using a pupil sphere on a white background to represent the eye,...)   Maybe returning to something like this will get my juices going?  Or, maybe I need to do some fun NVIATWAS doodles?

Wendy, if you have headless stuffed figures all over the place, consider hiding them if you have stuff delivered to your door.  surprise  Might be fun to make heads (do you have a surface that can be marked up and erased to make a sequence of phenomes and expressions?) to include in your videos.

    Thank you Diomede.
I'm still not sure which would be / is  a more efficient as a method: bones and rigging (which involves some tedious bone weighting) or a series of morphs which could be "enveloped" into an NLA track. Hmmm...I might revive this experiment.

Great approach to getting nice loops, I think I have seen another model you made with this method, or maybe remembering wrong, either way, nice work and thinking!

So, I'm not sure if this is the right thread to ask here:

I did some searching yesterday about getting a rigged figure made in Carrara into Daz Studio so I can convert to a .cr2 file, so maybe I can save a weight map and adjust it without having to redo everything  concerning bone weighitng if I find something amiss. Is this possible and how, and if there is a tutorial or steps that anyone knows, any help would be appreciated. smiley

I couldn't find much about going from Carrara to Studio. I perused Dart's info manual - I could have easily missed a link. I Googled the subject but maybe was using wrong search terms. I tried exporting as .dae and .fbx and, importing into Studio, all I saw was what looked like a giant bounding box with what looked like 2 nulls on the 'floor' (from the eyes maybe?)

I bet there are hundreds posts about this and I can't find anything, lol

  • WendyLuvsCatzWendyLuvsCatz Posts: 38,202

the best way is actually to import an FBX import into Poser and save it as a cr2 there

    Carrara stuff works rather well.

Thank you Wendy for the tip yessmiley

Now, I have to confess, I only had a vague understading of what a 'runtime' was , apparently a file structure for data?  blush

Meanwhile,  if I had a version of Poser, can I import my rigged model from Carrara via FBX, convert to .cr2 in Poser, export / import back into Carrara,  and then have some control  to save a weight map to re-use  even if I alter the rigging?

Sorry if I sound fussy, trying to look for an alternative to 100% destruction.

    Cheers

    yeah need latest Poser

old versions did not do FBX and honestly I have not tested the weightmap thing

    Poser uses runtime structure

all the legacy stuff V4 and below uses it too and it works best in Carrara too
