I thought it was a comment on one’s siblings and cousins

Those who don't have a degree?

..degrees are overrated. I know a number of  people with a college degree who are working as baristas, retail salespersons, in pubs/restaurants,  or for hustling packages for UPS/FedEx.

Like Bertrand Russell said : "People are born ignorant, not stupid, they're made stupid by education".  Education generally just fills people's heads with (often flawed) information, but information is neither knowledge in the true sense of the word, nor does it teach you how to think logically.

I bet most of those people you know have some kind of liberal arts degree or another type degree that was sold to them but was not useful. & liberal arts, interior decorators, social work  degrees jobs are hard to find if at all.  So sounds like those people you know chose poorly ,.but  engineering degrees those jobs can't be filled because there is lack of people with engineering degrees.  and I surely would not want someone with out a engineering degree building a bridge I'm about to drive over. or have a doctor without the right degree do heart surgery.  yea it depends on your choices for degrees. if they are useful or not.

...some have degrees in what were "employable" markets that just went flat.  Others were in the tech sector and let go thanks to ageism which has been on the rise. Meanwhile I have seen degrees required of jobs as basic as warehouse management which when I entered the field decades ago didn't need one, you just had to show you could handle the job.

I tend to agree with LG, that it's the economy which is buggered today as so much importance has been placed on a piece of paper that claims you are qualified when there are so many I know who don't have one one who I've seen are just as (if not more) resourceful, competent, and intelligent. Sadly taking the initiative on your own is no longer worth as much as it used to be.

Well at least they seem to be small. Sometimes they can be the size of a baseball, and do a lot of damage:

Thread the needle, or kill the thread.
If you needle the thread will dead be dead
or will kill be killed, or kill Bill?
