Does Aiko 3 still need love? AKA Any interest?

I am thinking of doing an Aiko 3 project and was wondering if there are still ones interested in Aiko 3.  Some questions:

  • What software do you use Aiko 3 primarily in?
  • Which is your favourite renderer for A3?  For Daz Studio; 3Dlight, iray or other?  For Poser, FireFly, SuperFly, or other?
  • What type of characters are still needed for A3? More realistic or more toon?
  • Any morphs for ones who just have A3 base?
  • Does there need to be a Hiro 3 companion for A3 products made?
  • Is Aiko 3 too old?

I'd like to see an Aiko 3 for Genesis 3/8 kind of product. But I don't have hardly any generation 3 items.

...oh heck yes, I sitll enjoy creating scenes with her. I can now also import her shape to G2F & G3F trhough Gen-X as I have the legacy shapes so there are a lot more clothing options.  Also love both the Aiko 19 and XinXin characters.  She also makes a very cute fey.

I don't know, with the improved bends, expressions, clothing, etc for the newest gen, I don't see much need to use Aiko 3. To me, Kirie for Sakura 8 looks a bit like Aiko 3. Many of Sakura 8's add-on characters filled that nitch imo.

Still like aiko3 for comis/manga creation. Work with DAZ 4.8/4.9 /4.10.

Agreed. I haven't loaded Aiko 3 in years.

I like A3 a lot, and made an A8 version of Aiko 3 which I haven't shared as of yet (the .duf that is, I shared these images around the time that A8 dropped).  I was going to share what I came up with at some point over at Rendo, etc., but then a bunch of other projects came along, and I sidelined this project.

    ..awwwwww.

  • I say that if you are already planning to make something for your own use for an older figure, then go for it. I doubt there's any commercial possibility for A3 at this point, but there's probably some people who still use her if only because the A3 LE is often a freebie. When I do (rarely) use A3, it's either as a toy in a scene (which makes the awkward leg bends moot), or I use that Bko freebie robot that's based off A3.

I am not expecting to make a lot, but just enough to cover my cost of photoshop.  Is it too far fetched to make enough to buy another month of photoshop?

She and her "spin off" mesh, "Melody" are still my favorite models, so I'm always interested in anything made for them.

    Sincerely,

Well, even some little money is better than nothing. And if you make something for Aiko3 for yourself, why not try to sell it? Others might be happy to get more Aiko3 stuff.

    Nope, probably not too far-fetched.

    1. Daz Studio

    2. I've mostly used 3Delight. I've not really got around to using her in an Iray render (yet)..

    3.  You can never have enough of either. But I prefer toon.

    4. I've got most of her morphs (I think). Although, like characters, you can never have too many morphs either.

    5. Not necessarily. But it would be great to see new content for Hiro 3 too.

    6. There are people out there who still buy items for Victoria 3, so why not release something for Aiko 3.  In fact, I bought a couple of A3 outfits back in last month. So no, I don't think she is too old.

I used A3 for 9 years.  Long before giving her up for G2F and G3F, I felt her tech was too old and her smile is crap.

I last used her in 2016 and wont go back.  G3F is my main girl now.

There was an a3 appreciation thread - https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/8629/gen3-aiko-and-hiro-appreciation-thread

    Some nice images in there.

I bought A3, M4 and V4 this year to use as background characters and use genesis1 and 2 as they're not graphics hogs like later genesis figures - nothing against gen8 but my comp lags a bit when shes loaded. There are a lot of A3 resources both free and commercial to use and i'm not too concerned about anatomical realism. I believe Mcasuals script helps fix her smile, though i havent tested it yet. Judging by how useful your products might be in my future work, i'd be interested in purchasing new A3 gear, textures or morphs both realistic and toon. I use daz studio and both iray and 3delight based on project needs. Thank you.

    @ MissBadWolf

Back to your original question.  I think that, at the very least, A3 needs to be pulled forward to Genesis 3.  I'm not sure where or when I acquired the morph (i.e. which product I bought or got for free) that added Aiko 3 to my Genesis 3 sliders, but one does exist.

In my attached image, you can see two versions of Aiko 3 (over the 3).  The second one (in blue) is the Genesis 3 version using the slider I just mentioned.  I think I used Aiko 7 I used Aiko 5 textures.

A 'hidden' Aiko 3 slider does appear in my Daz install for Genesis 3, though.  Just search for Aiko under parameters, if you have it, it should be the first 'greyed out/red' entry on the list, or at least near the top of the 'hidden' morphs.

The biggest issue with using said slider is that you still need to pick a skin texture.  If you were thinking of pulling A3 forward into Genesis, yeah updated A3 textures for Genesis 3 (or 8 if you are ambitious) that closely resemble the original textures while having the detail we come to expect from Genesis 3 (added maps, etc.), yeah that might be something I'd be interested in (if the prise is reasonable).  Depending on where that Aiko 3 morph slider came from that works with Genesis 3... well you may have it already.

I think Aiko 3 is still very much a cutie!

Edit: Just opened my lineup file.  The second '3' is a Genesis character, using Aiko 5 textures.

Seconded — I still use Melody and Micah (the Hiro3-based male critter figure) as much as I do any of the later Genesis figures. There's still nothing to beat them for the sheer range of different critter morphs and texture sets.

It is quite possible to get A3 onto Genesis 3. Below is A3's shape and skin on G3F.

Getting the same onto G8 is trickier, but possible. To answer the OPs question, if I pick up an A3 resource, either Morph or clothing, and I wished to use it, I would transfer it to a later figure.

Wish I had grabbed the digitigrade legs before the creator pulled them from Rendo. Maybe I'll finally try creating a Genesis head graft and use the Michael 4 Creature Creator legs.

As an option to the CC legs, there's also the HFS creature morph sets. Versions for M/F and G3 and G8. Much beefier than in the old Jenelson Kasa set for A3 (a very nice character, but those skinny geometry-swapped legs need a good bit of tweaking).

I've been eying HFS Catfolks for Genesis on Rendo for a while now. On the other hand, while I don't use Genesis 3 too much, the fantasy races are on Fast Grab right now. Maybe... It is nice to have a variety of choices.

I still use A3 sorta... the AikoToon version, but even then, I pretty much use her to create alien "adult" characters.
    But to answer your questions:

    • What software do you use Aiko 3 primarily in?  DS2.3 (Yes, you read that correctly)
    • Which is your favourite renderer for A3?  3Delight
    • What type of characters are still needed for A3? More realistic or more toon? For me, as long as its alien i think it could fit in my universe, but toon aliens would be ideal
    • Any morphs for ones who just have A3 base? A3/A3 Morphs & Maps, Kioki, and AikoToon.
    • Does there need to be a Hiro 3 companion for A3 products made?  That would be ideal.
    • Is Aiko 3 too old?  Personally, i think so.  A3 is 5 versions old.  I think thats rather significant and only A3 Fan-Boys/Girls (like myself) would be interested in that purchase.

  • I used nothing but A3 (with the XinXin character partial morph mixed with the Realistic morph and a pinch of something else, can't recall now) with Poser 7 from initial release up until about 2014/2015 when I really started looking more at Daz Studio. Kinda had to since I went from A3 to Vicky 6 (V3 wasn't all that to look at, V4 looked like Poser Dork with a pectoral disorder, and I skipped V5) and Genesis 2 didn't work in Poser as well as it should have.

However, I loaded up an old A3 character/PZ3 the other day and the low-resness of the texture map hit me in the face. Ran it through re-shade and bumped it up to 4K resolution. Much better, but still you can tell.

If anything, I'd say she needed 2K textures at least, and not just blown-up copies.

But then I really didn't touch A3 until the character morphs. As an anime fan, I don't think the stylized look translates to 3D. That look works in 2D best, but the pointy chin needs to be toned down for 3D.

For what it's worth, there is a group of users that LOVE A3. That still use it. That express their disappointment at every Aiko that has come since and declare that they intend to continue to use A3. Probably quite a few Poser users, since the newer Daz figures aren't natively compatible with it.  If you want to make experiment with trying to find a way to make a small amount of money servng an under-served niche, A3 might be a good choice.

My problem with A3 really is that she looks like she should be 2d; anime never really looks good when it's trying to be 3d version of the traditional look; they do look good when trying to be something new.

This is an Aiko 3 related question, Does anyone know what happened to her seam guides?  They are not on the Aiko 3 base product page anymore.  Nor are any on the product page in the product library.

I thought I posted this earlier, but guess not.
