GOZ crashed all my Gen2F characters.

Hi,
I have an issue with DAZ 4.5 and GOZ. The problem is I made some figures with Genesis 2 Female and when I imported one of them in Zbrush and reimported the mophed figure (directly from Zbrush to DAZ studio), I saved it as a figure asset and a morph asset. This crashed ALL the Genesis 2 Female characters I made, even the ones I made anteriorly to the new morphed figure. I have now cubes instead of correct geometry in all the characters I created, and not only the one I imported in Zbrush.
I hope and would really like to be able to load my characters again. Someone who knows how to do? Is it someway to see which values I used to make the characters? I see the cubes in the scene (Preview mode) and I see the name of Genesis2F but no Surfaces and when I render the scene, it's only the clothes which are rendering. No character! Very annoying, especially when you made hours to create characters and they just crash "LIKE THAT!".
Please, someone who knows how to get back the original geometry of the figures?
Best regards.

It's a little strange. The morphed figure in Zbrush I recently saved with SupportAsset>Figure/propAsset is working correctly. It's the only one which is working correctly. All the other figures (all made with the same basel figure Gen2F) crash whwn I try to open them (I see cubes) even if I never imported them in Zbrush. It's like the all Gen2F geometry crashed (but not the morphed one in Zbrush). I don't understand anything now. It's not logical. Someone who understands something?
I will test some more.
Best regards.
There was a bug in GoZ with morph creation, it could be avoided by exporting the morphed tool from ZBrush as OBJ and importing as a morph with Morph Loader Pro and it has been fixed in the new version, but that's 4.6.1.17 not 4.5.
Why were you saving as a figure asset? That's for creating a new figure, as long as you change the name in the option dialogue, not for saving a morph.
Sounds almost as if the morphed figure when saved as a figure asset either overwrote or corrupted the preexisting G2F files if it's the only one that's working.
Hi, thank for the answer.
I saved as a Figure asset because I didn't know how to do. I couldn't Think there was a risk to crash all the original geometry. I Think the program should block me on some manner for doing that. I was naive. It's the first time I use Zbrush and the first time I use GoZ. I didn't find any clear tutorial on how to save a morph when reimporting from ZBrush. Allmost all tutorials I saw show how to import in Zbrush and change your figure in Zbrush and reimport it in DAZ and VOILA... the result is there..... but they don't explain how to save the morph in DAZ, and how to do it to avoid crashing your mesh. I only regret I didn't tested with another figure (that I care less about). My problem is that I try to recover the Genesis2F geometry. Is it some way to do that? Can I uninstall Genesis2F and reinstall it? Is it better to install the latest DAZ Studio version (I have the 4.6.0.18 version).
I don't know if it's a way to recover my Characters. I saved some of them in obj format but can I rebuild the Character only with obj format? Is it possible to do this in ZBrush?
I will try to explain exactly what I did. Maybe someone can understand how to do.
1-Open my Character (morphed Genesis2Female) in DAZ Studio.
2-Export it with GOZ in Zbrush
3-Change the Character in GOZ
4-Exported by GOZ in DAZ studio. SO FAR SO GOOD.
5-The morph (ZBrush) is there in DAZ studio and works very well. I'm happy.
6- Next: how to save it now? Well I try to save it as a scene.
7-Save it as a scene.
8-Open the scene (with the Genesis2F character with the Zbrushmorph in it). I get cubes instead. The scene does'nt work.
9- Read tutorial on Internet and some says that I have to save as a morph asset or/and Figure/pose asset.
10- I don't know which one, so I decide to save both as a morph asset and Figure asset.
11-I load the Character again (one of the previous versions I made for this character) in DAZ Stusio.
12-Export with GOZ.
13-In Zbrush change again the figure and export by GOZ in DAZ.
14. It works very well. The morph is there and works well.
15. This time I save as a morph asset and immediately efter that as a Figure asset (so it's saved as both a morph asset and a figure asset. It was stupid and naive but I was afraid to loose my character again and thought it was better to save the both ways to be sure I have my morph saved. But I realise now it was stupid).
16. When I try to open the scene (with the Genesis2F character with the Zbrushmorph in it), I get cubes. The scene does'nt work.
17. I Think: OK, not a big deal, I open another scene (with a previous character) but OH MY GOD!!! it crashes too, and I didn't touch this one. I begin to sweat and hope the other Characters I did with Genesis2F are there. But guess what!!! All of them crash. No single one of them opens correctly and I have cubes when opening all other Genesis2F Characters (that I made previously and never imported in ZBrush). So I slept very bad, I can tell you that. It took me HOURS and HOURS to make these Characters. It feels very bad now.
So I would be SOOOOO HAPPYYYYY if someone could help me recover my Characters.
Best regards.
Hi, thank you for your answer. I also think it's the geometry which is now corrupted. I probably saved the character on the Genesis2F geometry and it crashed every figure I made with Genesis2F. I hope there is some solution to recover the characters I made, maybe by reinstalling Genesis 2 F. I do'n t know. Now I have to say that I'm little afraid to experiment some more.
Best regards.
The GoZ errror was that it was incorrectly renaming something (I can't recall exactly what). I think when you saved the figure asset you replaced the original G2F DSF fiel, in the Data folder, with one that used the wrong name and as a result the previous .duf character presets and scenes are pointing to a bit of data that DS can't find (because its name has changed). The fix for that would be to reinstall Genesis 2 Female Starter Essentials, though I'd make a back up of your \Data folder (or folders, if you have multiple content directories) first.
If you have OBJ files, as long as they were exported with the base resolution, you should be able to load them as morphs with Morph Loader Pro - Edit>Figure>Morph Loader Pro, click the button next to From and set it to modo (or any other preset that uses 1 unit = 1 meter) if the OBJ files are from ZBrush, if they're from DS you will need to use the same preset as you used to export), then click Choose Morph Files and select your OBJ files, and as a test just click Accept (you may, if it works, want to delete the figure without saving, then repeat the loading on a new figure and this time expand each entry to get its options and change the Name and Property Group options by right-clicking on them to make the result cleaner). If the morphs load and work, save them as Morph Assets.
Hi, thank you for your answer.
I will try the second solution before I reinstall Genesis2F. I don't know if I understand you right but I did:
1-Import the object (the Genesis2F Character I made) in DAZ Studio.
2-I choose Edit>Figure>Morph Loader Pro.
3-I click the button next to From and choose Custom or DAZ Studio (the Character was made in DAZ Studio)
4-I accept and I get a message that the morph is successfully created.
5-I delete the figure and load Genesis2F.
6-I choose Edit>Figure>Morph Loader Pro
7-What do I have to do? I can't choose "Load Project objet" because there is nothing to load. And it's not logical to click on the "choose Morph files" again. I don't know how to load the saved morph on the new figure. I never used MorphLoader before. Can you help me with that?
Best regards.
I tested with the base figure (Genesis2F)
1-Load Genesis2F in DAZ Studio.
2-Edit>Figure>Morph Loader Pro.
3-I choose the morph (obj) I made with Genesis2F
4-I click the button next to From and choose Custom or DAZ Studio (the Character was made in DAZ Studio)
5-I accept but I get a wrong message (Warning. Geometry didn't match, failed to create morph).
I don't know if I'm doing something wrong.
Best regards.
Well, I see now that Genesis2F has crashed, even the original base figure. When I load her, I only see some morphs (not all morphs) and when I pick one body morph, only the arms/torso is changing, not the whole body. So it seems the whole Genesis2F geometry has crashed, and it may explain why I get an error while using Morph Loader Pro.
I guess I don't have any other choices to reinstall Genesis2F (Warning. Geometry didn’t match, failed to create morph).
Best regards.
The second route was correct, but the error message probably means that the morphed figure was not exported at the base resolution. I don't think you will be able to use the OBJ to recover your morph, unless there's a way in ZBrush to use a background item as a template for shaping the foreground or active tool - I think there is, but I couldn't find it the other day when I was looking for someone else.
Thank you for your reply. I will try to reinstall Genesis2F. I will first save my data as backup. I will let you know if it works when I reinstalled Genesis2F.
Best regards.
Unfortunately, it didn't work. I uninstalled and reinstalled Genesis2F but the base figure crash. I can't put some morph on her. I decided to reinstall DAZ Studio last update, and guess what.... all the program now has crashed. I can't even open DAZ Studio. I can't see it on my computer. Please help. I don't know what to do.
Best regards.
Well, thanx god, the program is there somewhere. The shortcut of DAZ Studio crashed. I can't see DAZ Studio on my computer but when I try to open a duf file the programs (DAZ Studio) opens. So it's there somewhere on my computer.
But the Genesis2F is totally crashed and unusuable. Is it possible to download again Genesis2F?
Best regards.
Sorry. My bad. I found DAZ Studio. DAZ installer changed the place where DAZ Studio is installed. So I do have the last version now and it works. So, it's Genesis2F which is not working. I can load the figure but I can't put any morph or expression on her. The smile expressions I bough for example has disapeared when using Genesis2F. But when I use the saved GOZBrush morph (the only one who didn't crash), everything is working fine, even the Genesis morphs. The smile expressions are there too and work very fine. So it seems that this figure has remplaced the original Genesis2F. Textures and poses are working on both the Genesis2F base figure and the morphed Zbrush.
Victoria6 is working fine. The characters made on Genesis2F like Nalin, Nadia, Norma are working fine. The smile expressions are there and I can morph the figure. So it's ONLY the base Genesis2F (the Actor) which seems to be corrupted.
Well, I don't understand anything. While I'm writing to you the Genesis2F is now working. I can now put morphs on her and the smile expressions are there. So now, the Genesis2F is working as well as Victoria 6 and other characters.
But the characters I made are still not working. And the Genesis2F can not be saved. When I save (as a scene) a morphed Genesis2F (that I right now created to test the program) and try to open the scene, I get cubes (boxes). So it seems I can't save any Genesis2F.
Best regards-
Hi,
I see now that even Victoria 6 can not be saved. When I reopen the scene, she comes as boxes. Genesis 1 works well. The fact I save as a scene or a scene subset doesn't change anything. I get boxes when opening the saved scene.
Do you think it may help if I save the base Genesis 2F as a figure asset, to overwrite the wrong saved geometry?
When I chose prop asset/figure asset, I think I chose:
Vendor Name: DAZ 3D
Product Name: Genesis2
Item Name: Female
Metadata:
Set Content Type: Actor
Set Compatibility Base: Genesis 2/Female
I also have to say that I have two data folders. The figure asset I saved (the Zbrush morphed one) has been saved in one of the content directory (in Figures) but the Genesis2F Actor is installed in the other one content directory (in people). I don't know if it plays role.
Maybe it's because of that the figure saved on the original geometry?
Best regards.
Don't save the figure as an asset, that risks making matters worse.
I'm not clear on which morphs and files it is that are not working - are your purchased morphs working when you load a new Genesis 2 Female or not? Or are you saying that \People\Genesis 2 Female\Gensis 2 base Female.duf isn't butthat \People\Genesis 2 Female\Characters\Victoria 6.duf is?
Hi, sorry I didn't write earlier. I come back from work. I will try to explain better.
All the Genesis2F and figures based on her (Victoria6, Norma, Nalin, Nadia, heroine...) crash when saving them as a scene and reopening the scene. I get boxes instead of the figure. The previous characters I made with Genesis2F are not working. They also crash when opening the scene. I get boxes.
The morphs I bought here at DAZ (Bodybuilder, Androgenous, Body size, Emaciated, Heavy, Fitness size, Height, Pear.....) are now working when applying them to Genesis 2F. They didn't work after the crash yesterday. I couldn't even put some morph on Genesis Base 2 Female. Now I can do that. But the problem is when I save the figure as a scene and try to reopen the scene. I get boxes. The Genesis2F is probably corrupted.
So, for better understanding:
1-I open DAZ studio
2-I open content library and load Genesis2 Base Female
3-I apply some morph (from the Genesis2F Bodymorph package I bought here at DAZ, for example bodybuilder morph or Pear morph). The morph/s are working. So far so good.
4-I save the morphed figure (Genesis2F with Pear or bodybuilder morph/s) as a scene.
5-I open the scene I just saved.
6-It crashes. I get cubes (boxes) instead of the figure.
I tried to save Genesis2F without applying any morph:
1-I open DAZ studio
2-I open content library and load Genesis2 Base Female
3-I save Genesis2F as a scene (without touching her).
4-I open the scene with Genesis2F
5-It crashes. I get cubes (boxes) instead of the figure.
I tried the same with other Genesis2F characters like Norma or Nadia/Nalin. I save them as a scene (without touching them or applying any morph). When I open the scene I get cubes (boxes) instead of the figure.
So it seems that the Genesis2 Base Female has crashed because every single one character I make or made with her crash when I save them and try to open the scene.
The previous morphed figures I made with Genesis2F are still not working. I get boxes when opening the scenes. Ironically, the only Genesis2F which is working is the one I morphed in Zbrush. This figure (morphed Genesis2F in Zbrush) made all other figures (Genesis2F morphed in DAZ) crash. The one I morphed in ZBrush and saved as a prop asset/figure asset is loading well.
Best regards.
OK, can you do a search of your hard drive (or drives) and see if you have two \Data\DAz 3D\Genesis 2\Female folders. It's hard to be sure, but it almost sounds as if there are two sets and for some reason DS uses one when it loads the character and another when it loads a saved scene (and the second has bad files in it).
Hi,
Yes. I see that I have two datafolder with DAZ 3D/Genesis2Female.
Best regards.
What's a little strange is that I only see one of these two Genesis2Female when I open DAZ Studio.
1-I open DAZ Studio.
2-I look in My DAZ3D library and see People\Genesis 2 Female. There is no "Figures" folder in My DAZ3D library.
3-Now I look in the other content directory (My library) but don't see any People\Genesis 2 Female. However I see the Genesis2F I morphed with Zbrush in the "Figures" folder. If I load this one and save it as a scene and open the scene, it works. No boxes.
Best regards.
Zero the one that works, from My Library, then set the resolution, under Mesh resolution in the Parameters pane, to base and go through setting each morph you made to 1.0/100% and exporting as OBJ using the DAZ Studio preset (scale should be 100%). That will allow you to reload the morphs on the corect G2F. Now move the \My Library\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 2\Female folder to a safe location (in case you need it later) outside the content directories, load G2F from the My DAZ 3D Library\People\Genesis 2 female folder and make sure it and its standard morphs are working. If theya re, go to Edit>Figure>Morph Loader Pro, set the preset (the from: button) to DAZ Studio, click the Choose Morh Files... button and select the OBJ files you exported then click Accept. With luck they will load correctly and give you functioning morphs - if so, use File>save as>Support Asset>Morph Asset to save them.
Hi, the one that works has a texture on it. How can I take off the texture? It's a Victoria4 texture.
Best regards.
1-OK, I think I see how to do. Genesis2F has Bree texture on her so I will put the same texture in the one that works. Is that right?
2-I don't understand what you mean by setting each morph I made to 1,0/100%. I only made one morph in Zbrush and the morph is at zero%. All the other morphs used in the figure (the one that works) are DAZ morphs (Androgenous, Bodybuilder, Fitness, Eye shape, Eye iris...). I don't even know if I have the whole list of morphs I used for this figure. Do I have to put all these used DAZ morphs to 100%? Or only the one I made in Zbrush? The figure looks exactly as Genesis2F when I zeroe it. If I set all the used morphs to 1,0/100, the figure looks very extremly deformed. Do you really want me to do that?
3-Will the fact that I move the \My Library\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 2\Female folder to another location fix the errors I get when saving/opening scenes with Genesis2F? Will the boxes disappear and will I get back the correct base geometry? Will my previous saved characters based on Genesis2F work again?
I don't want to mess upp anything so it's better that I wait for your answer before I try something.
Best regards.
Sorry, I was not understanding your issue. If you have a character using a mix of DAZ and custom morphs, you can save a Shaping preset for the morphs or a character preset for both morphs and materials (and a materials preset for just the materials). However, I am once again unclear on what is working well and what isn't - is the ZBrush morph working on anything? And are the DAZ morphs working on the reinstalled Genesis 2 Female?
Hi,
I understand you. It's not easy to get in and understand someone else problem. I will try to explain better.
To answer to your questions:
I don't know if I can tell if the DAZ morphs are working or not. The DAZ morphs work on the reinstalled Genesis 2 F but only on DAZ interface (when I load Genesis2F and apply DAZ morphs on her, it works). But if I save a scene with Genesis2F with (or without) DAZ morphs on her and then try to open the scene I just saved, the Genesis2F crashes and I get boxes (cubes). So every scene I save with Genesis2F crash when I try to open it. So Genesis2F is unusuable at the moment. I can play with her on the DAZ interface but I can't save her. I tested with Genesis 1 and I don't have this problem with Genesis 1.
So my problem is not the character I used in Zbrush. I'm not trying to save this character. I already have the character in my DAZ library and the character is working well when I load it. Even the scene opens well when I save this character as a scene. I don't get any boxes (cubes).
My problems came when I tried to save this character in DAZ Studio. I saved it as a Morph asset and Figure/prop asset in DAZ studio. This made Genesis2F crash. All other Genesis2F I made (before this character) also crash. All of them, while I never touched them or never exported them in Zbrush. When I say crash, I mean that when I try to open the scene with these characters, I get boxes (cubes).
Finally even the Genesis2F (base figure/Actor) crashed. I could load her in DAZ Studio but I couldn't apply any DAZ morphs on her. But now it's working (I don't know how, the problem fixed itself). So now I can apply DAZ morphs on her but unfortunately I can't save her. Why? Because if I save her (Genesis2F) at a scene and try to open the scene, I get boxes (cubes). So at the end, I can't save any Genesis2F. I never had this problem before.
I will try to reexplain what I did from the very beginning . Maybe it will be better understanding.
1- I buy Genesis2F with DAZ morphs (Genesis 2 Female Morphs Boundle, Genesis 2 Female Head Morphs, Nalin morph, Genesis 2 Female Head Morph Ressource Kit, Genesis 2 Female Head Morph Ressource Kit, V4 skins autoconverter for Genesis2F......). I'm happy. There is great expressions and I like the figure.
2- I decide to make some characters with Genesis2F.
3- I make 5 characters (character 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) with Genesis2F. All these characters are made with Genesis2F andDAZ morphs (not Zbrush morphs). I only use the morphs I bought at DAZ (Genesis 2 Female Morphs Boundle, Genesis 2 Female Head Morphs, Nalin morph, Genesis 2 Female Head Morph Ressource Kit, Genesis 2 Female Head Morph Ressource Kit, V4 skins autoconverter for Genesis2F......). I don't use Zbrush and SO FAR SO GOOD. I'm very happy with my morphed characters.
4- I save each of these morphed characters (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 ) as a scene and when I open the scene, the morphed character is working very well and I'm really really happy...because I really like the characters I just created (after hours of work).
5- I wonder about Zbrush and think I could make my character even better with adding a little extra morph in Zbrush. I have Zbrush but never used it.
6- I read the few tutorials which exist on DAZ-Zbrush and think I can made it.
7-I choose one of my characters, the character 5 (Genesis2F morphed with DAZ morphs) and export it with GOZ in Zbrush.
8- In Zbrush I just make a simple morph, just to test the thing.
9- I export with GOZ directly in DAZ Studio.
10- Now I have in DAZ Studio my character 5 I did with Genesis2F with DAZ morphs AND one Zbrush morph.
11- I'm really happy because the morph is working well.
12- Next step: how to save it now?
13- Well I try to save it as a scene.
14- Save it as a scene.
15- Open the scene (character 5 AND the Zbrushmorph in it). I get cubes (boxes) instead of my figure. So saving as a scene does’nt work. But nothing else has crashed. Only my saved scene crashes.
16- Read another tutorial which tells that I have to save as a morph asset or/and Figure/pose asset.
17- I don’t know which one, so I decide to save both as a morph asset and Figure asset.
18- I redo what I did (Points 7 - 11).
19- This time I save as a Morph Asset and immediately efter that as a Figure/Prop Asset (so it’s saved as both a Morph Asset and a FigurePprop Asset.
20- After that: I save it as a scene.
21- When I try to open this scene, I get boxes (cubes). The scene does’nt work.
22- I Think: OK, not a big deal, I know the scene is crashing.
23- I try to open a previous version of my character 5 (Genesis2F with DAZ morphs WITHOUT Zbrush morph) but OH MY GOD!!! it crashes too. I didn’t touch this previous version of my character.
24- I begin to be scared and hope the other characters I made previously with Genesis2F and DAZ morphs in them (characters 1, 2, 3, 4) are still there. But guess what!!! All of them also crash.
25- I try to open each of the previously made characters with Genesis2F and DAZ morphs (no Zbrush morphs on them) but no single one of them opens correctly. I get boxes (cubes) when opening each of the scenes including these characters (both recent and previous versions of the characters).
26- So all other Genesis2F Characters (that I made previously and never imported in ZBrush) also CRASH while I never touched them.
By the way: I still have the same problem that I can not open any scene with my characters (1, 2, 3 and 4). For me, it's the most annoying problem because I risk to loose all the characters I made and it's almost impossible to do them again. So, for me, the most important thing is to be able to recover my characters and I don't know how. That's why I wrote in this forum to have help with that. All the scenes with these characters (1, 2, 3 and 4) crash (I get cubes (boxes) when opening the scenes). I can see that character 5 (with Zbrush morph on it) has been saved in My library and is working well (ironically). I can save this character as a scene without crash. So this character that I exported to Zbrush and saved as Morph Asset and Figure/Prop Asset works but it made all other characters crash.
27- Then I saw that I also had a problem withGenesis2 Female Base figure (Actor). I couldn't apply any DAZ morphs on her.
28- But this problem disappeared after I tried to apply DAZ morphs on her derivatives (Victoria6/Norma/Nalin/Heroin... ). When I reloaded Genesis2F and tried to apply DAZ morphs on her it worked. The problem fixed itself, I don't know how.
But I can't save any scene with Genesis2F. That's my new problem. I'll explain:
29- I load Genesis 2 Base Female in DAZ Studio.
30- It loads well. I can apply DAZ morphs on her.
31- I save the scene.
32- I open the just saved scene and it crashes (I get boxes (cubes) instead of Genesis2F).
33- I try to test with other Genesis2F derivatives (Victoria6, Nadia/Nalin, Norma, Heroine....) and get the same crash when trying to open a scene with these figures.
34- So the actual situation now is:
I can play with Genesis2 F and all her derivatives (Victoria6, Nadia/Nalin, Norma, Heroine....) but I can't save anything. I can definitely not save a scene because if I do that and reopen the scene, the figure crashes and I get boxes (cubes). It systematically crashes every time I try to open a scene with Genesis2Female.
So, to resume, I have TWO big issues:
-The first one: I wish to be able to recover my characters 1, 2, 3 and 4 (the ones I made with Genesis2F and DAZ morphs, no Zbrush morphs).
-The second one: I hope I will be able to use Genesis2Female. I can play with her in the DAZ Studio preview interface but I can't save any scene with her (with or without DAZ morphs) because all the scenes I save open with boxes (cubes) instead of Genesis2F).
Well now I have to go to bed.::....
Best regards.
I don't know if it's relevant but when I load a saved scene with Genesis2F I get cubes (boxes) but when I try ro render it there is nothing. In Editor (Posing ) I see there there is Genesis2F but I can't see any Actor.
So you aren't bothered about the ZBrush morph at this point, you just want to get characters 1, 2, 3, and 4 back?
From what you said earlier, you have two content directories - My DAZ 3D Library (in the Public Documents folder) and My Library (presumably \DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library in your own documents folder). I think the \People\Genesis 2 Female is in one of them - probably My DAZ 3D Library - and you saved scenes are all in the other - My Library. Is that right?
Hi,
You're absolutely right. I don't bother at all about the ZBrush morph because I just tested it. It's not an important morph for me. What I really wish is to get back my characters 1, 2, 3 and 4 that crashed.
"From what you said earlier, you have two content directories - My DAZ 3D Library (in the Public Documents folder) and My Library (presumably \DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library in your own documents folder). I think the \People\Genesis 2 Female is in one of them - probably My DAZ 3D Library -"
Exactly. Genesis 2 Female is in My DAZ 3D Library.
" and you saved scenes are all in the other - My Library. Is that right?"
No, the scenes are saved in an external hard disc (not in DAZ studio, not in My Library and not in My DAZ 3D Library).
Best regards.
OK, go to Edit>Preferences>Content Library tab and click the Content Directory Manager button, then in that expand (by clicking the triangles) Curent then DAZ Studio Formats - please post a screenshot of that, or list the folders in the order in which they appear.
Hi,,
I post a screenshot.
