LOL....Gonna stay with my 4.6 for a while. It seems to be the most stable for my system.

    No, get it.

I'm now pondering bringing assets in to DAZ from 3DS Max for rendering, when there are people included in the scene, rather than send the people to Max.

Iray is very good (OK it isn't as good as the Iray I use in Max but then it isn't the stupid money that Max costs).

For cars, I'm not really seeing any difference between Iray renders in Max and Iray renders in DAZ.

They are a bit more complicated to set up the shaders in DAZ - scub that they are much more difficult to set up the shaders in DAZ than Max, but no more difficult to set up a Iray surface in DAZ than any other special shader in DAZ.

It is a whole new learning process but worth the effort.

Obviously not a car render -don't look for the hidden car, but using an Iray car finish on the guitar.

I have to go along with John on this one Mus, DAZ is attemting to bring something that even GM uses in all their advertising to the masses so to speak!

    DS 4.8 Beta > Iray

The first render of the "Morris 1936" shows the standard painted rear deck (behind the seats), in the second render I have "split off" the rear deck as a separate surface, so that I could apply a different shader to it, to simulate the canvas cover on a real Morgan +4.

    Great renders.

Aside the woman's gravity defying shirt (it is really annoying how DAZ garments can stick to the underside of breasts - she certainly shouldn't be hot and sweaty travelling in a Rangie :-) ) you would swear the render with the dog was real.

The Morgans look great as well and the Cobra is insanely nice.

Since canvas/leather covers are never perfectly flat I've added a random bumpmap to it, as can be seen in this picture. I might add a raised edge to it too later, but right now there are other things in my life that have a higher priority...

And a bonus render in colors that IMHO are more British, and thus fit the car better. It's posed on a simple 50x50m plane with Nobiax's asphalt shader for Iray, tiled 25x25 and with the base color changed to 128-128-128 to make the asphalt darker. The only illumination is the built in Iray sun, and the clear blue sky that comes with it in the dome, so no HDRi was used.

My problrm with it is memory use. I can't even get one scene setup with more than one person without it just freezine for a while. It just sucks all the memory up on my system, so it slows to a stop every time.

I have a pretty potent lap top but it still manages to hang if the scene is overly complicated.

Don't use the Iray view on anything but lining up the HDRi image and then hide all of the scene assets. Hide any assets that are placed and don't need working on.

It can be frustrating but, as tomtom.w has demonstrated, it is worth the effort.

@ tomtom.w - That last render is pretty damn superb. Leather looks great an the tarmac is really nice

Sure does Tomtom.w...in fact I like the one where the lady and the dog have pulled off the road. That looks like a photograph!

    love it! Keep 'em comin'.

    Mmmmmmm Iray. :-)

Had to scale "Morris" down a bit and probably still larger than he should be but pleased with the image none the less.

    Nice Iray renders guy's.
This Iray thingy has turned into a bit of a dangling carrot for me. hmmm, Nvidea. Pity about the Vram requirements. When they figure out a way of sharing the all available ram including SLI , I might upgrade.

I couldn't resist doing this one. The car has been scaled down to 90%, which according to decanandersen's DAZ3D Precision Tool ( http://decanandersen.deviantart.com/art/Daz3D-Precision-Tool-CM-Ruler-397348673 ) gives the correct height to the top of the windshield.

The HDRi is the Pixar one that has been mentioned in other threads here. No post-render work has been done, so the image is exactly as it came out of Iray.

:-) A better guide is the width and length of the car as the windscreen is a little disproportionately high.

I took one into 3DS Max a time back and modified it to match the factory sizes. I have an image on my PC which I will dig out.

I find the easiest way to check sizes in DAZ is generate a 1M cube and then scale it in X and Z to the required sizes. Over lay it on the object and scale accordingly. Obviously a car can only be adjusted by over all scale.

Somewhere their is a freebie set of calipers for scaling objects in Poser and in Studio if I remember right
    ShareCg maybe not sure
The box method works well to though

    Found'em http://www.sharecg.com/v/41322/browse/11/Poser/Poser-dial-driven-measuring-tools

    works in Poser and Studio

Here's another render from the same session, with some sharpening of the grass in the foreground done in post-work.

I've been thinking about reworking the entire car, including adding wire wheels and perhaps even a convertible top, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

...okay (gasp) finally got caught up with what's been happening on the current and the last model of this thread. Lots of good work and love some of the "true classics" I've seen. Alas, my modelling skills are....well... nothing to write home about, and never could get the hang of converting .3ds, GTA, and Sketchup models so they play nicely with Daz. So pretty much been sticking with commercial models and textured .objs, though do manage a bit of texture and simple kitbashing now and then..

    A few samples to follow.

...Princess Merida slightly "updated". Used DZ Fire's real metal Shaders and Supershine Top Coat on "Angus" (Motorbike Viking).

Also the first time trying out motion blur Took a whopping sixteen and a half hours to render (blur added to the chain and rear sprocket in post)..

...oh, and she is on the right side of the road, for Scotland.
