I only manually install. I never use Connect or DIM. Since I edit a lot of textures and things I don't want Connect "fixing" my content. So I have no concern at all for this aspect. I don't care if it doesn't show up in smart content.
For me, Genesis 3 is the worst of the bunch to load. But it is not always that way, which is even more strange. Sometimes it loads faster than other times. It also effects all characters and scenes. It doesn't matter how I load the character, whether it be from a Daz character preset or a previous save, they often take a bit to load. Genesis 8 is getting worse over time. It used to load super fast, now it is approaching G3 loading times. Genesis 2 used to take a while to load, but recently it just got faster. That could be partly 4.11 maybe. It does seem to load faster in 4.11, and that is true for the other models as well.
But it is really annoying how content can mess around with loading times. There has got to be a better way. It would be nice if there was a way to have Daz skip content that you don't want to use, without deleting that content, so the program doesn't spend time looking for it.
When I look at the help log, I have dozens, maybe even hundreds of lines that say "Could not find target property for formula..." and "Could not find output property for formula..." These errors list a wide variety of morphs, expressions, and even animations. Here are a couple examples.
"2019-04-28 21:09:15.695 WARNING: ..\..\..\..\..\src\sdksource\fileinput\dzassetdaz.cpp(5804): Could not find target property for formula: Genesis3Female:/data/DAZ%203D/Genesis%203/Female/Morphs/DAZ%203D/Expressions/eCTRLConfused.dsf#eCTRLConfused?value in file : /data/DAZ%203D/Genesis%203/Female/Morphs/Littlefox/Star2/MCM-Star2-Express-Confused.dsf"
"2019-04-28 21:09:23.807 WARNING: ..\..\..\..\..\src\sdksource\fileinput\dzassetdaz.cpp(6129): Could not find property for animation: name://@selection#FHMVictoria7:?value/value"
Warnings like these completely dominate the log file. I cannot possible list them all. But these things DO load. Like the first one is for Star 2.0 expressions, I have access to them in my poses. I have no idea what the animation file is, or why I even have it.
I do have my content split between 2 drives. But I have not moved any characters across drives.
What is the best way to delete products manually? Is it better to do this from inside Daz or to browse the files?
Happening for me as well in the past couple of days. G8F finally loads but after at least a good 20-30 minutes and I get the "duplicats formula" notice as well. Others have mentioned Caryn, but I do not have her.
I too am having the "Duplicants Formula" error. Just started a few days ago. Props and stuff will load quick and without issue.
Ditto.
I installed the beta but was using the ;ates 4.10. Lagging and weird behaviour Got this as well. And this more than once.
Have you guys put in a support ticket about this?
I'm using the 4.11 beta and am not having load time issues. G8F takes a little longer to load than other Genesis figures but that's because I have a ton of content for G8F. And the load time isn't that long, just maybe 20 or 30 seconds longer than the other Genesis figures. But the people reporting super long load times and new "duplicate error" messages - that sounds like something that really needs to be reported. If you're having significant load times I'd definitely put in a support ticket.
Well the meta data and duplicate file thing has been going on for more then 4 or 5 years now. I still get issues about lack of meta data even on store items, only reason I didn't make an issue of it is cause I got them for free, so I lost nothing. The meta data issue is not just a problem for Gen 4 items, I even get them with Genesis 1 up to 8 items. What I see is unless a bunch of people make a big issue out of it, only gets corrected about half the time, the other half are items I end up never being able to use as a result.
What ever happened to the concept of making sure a product works before it hits the market, seems each decade that passes that practise gets further and further pushed aside.
Might want to conside how much you have installed in your Daz. If I remember correctly, depending on version and what your computer is like, can it not get bogged down if you install too much? No one's mentioned it yet so thought I would bring it up as a possibility.
Most of those warnings are for clothing products that trigger checks if you have the associated human morph product, eg Star 2.0, if you don't I think DS then doesn't bother keeping the Star 2 option of the clothing fits & morphs in memory for that particular clothing product.
I could be wrong though. O guess Richard Hasseltine would know for sure.
V4.2 & M4 do have a mechanism where the user picks & chooses the additional morph products to use when you load the character into a scene but it is slow & likewise was not popular with customers.
Duplicate file? There are Duplicate Formula errors (a clash between two proeprties with the same name or a duplication in the ERC set-up), Duplicate ID errors (mostly legacy content, pre DS 4.5, though ti can happen as the result of hand editing), and I thought there was another Duplicate error which is currently hiding in the back of my brain - but there are no duplicate file errors..
The duplicate formula and other issues with loading genesis 8 F is a new problem for me. I never had that issue before, and I have put in a ticket with my logs. I'll report back if/when I clear up the issue.
@outrider42
There may be other factors like harddisk performance that slow down loading times. If you are storing your content on an ordinary HDD all the smale file size morphs added over time can get cluttered in the file system that is also called fragmentation. Maybe you can speed things up by a harddisk defragmentation but this is not the case with SSD disks.
I've also used another method about speeding up loading times and performance I'd like to share. I did save out alternative genesis figure vesions. They only get the most basic morph sets like a few Daz original base characters, expressions and additional pose controls. Her is how I did this.
I was surprised but as I loaded the alternative genesis vesion there was no error message about missing morphs. They work like the default figures regarding fitting clothes. I also got rid of all textures before saving the new figure asset and now they not just load much faster but also take less system memory RAM. It saved me alot of time loading scenes while working on something like manualy fitting clothes or hair for example. With this I was also able to get a few more people into my scene the same time before my poor old computer chokes on the heavy load.
Now I still can use the original genesis figures with all the morph packs or install new ones to design my custom character shapes.
To interchange morphs between the original and the alternative figure version there are two methods.
You can load both figures into the scene and use the Transfer Utility, select only to transfer Morphs: Favourits and Subcomponents. Ofcourse you have to mark them as Fafourits first on the original figure.
The other method is to merge all the extra shape morphs the custom character is made of by exporting an OBJ.
Then I load the "Ligth Weight" version, dial in the Daz base character, open Morph Loader Pro and load the custom shape with Reverse Deformation. Sometimes I need to use the Joint Editor and Adjust Rigging to Shape followed by ERC-Freeze on the custom character morph. Keep in mind you can't just save those characters with the additional custom morphs as subsets this will lead to "embedded" morphs that behave badly. You need to save those morphs you created as Morph Assets in order to have the fitted items like clothes follow the morph shape of the figure. All in all its a bit more work but in general its almost like the old generation 4 morph injection method.
Duplicate formulas are a real time killer on loading. This I can fix. If you just starting getting these, then it must be something you recently installed or created. You can look up your help log file and locate the exact item causing the error.
Once you locate the item, then you delete it. From there you can file a support ticket for the item if you bought here, and it may get fixed. Also, if you did recent buy it, you could ask for a refund as well if you don't wish to wait.
But once you delete the offending items causing duplicate errors, the errors will go away and you load times will be drastically faster.
Duplicate errors can be simple mistakes in the creation process. I created a morph that resulted in a duplicate error myself. Whoops. But duplicate errors are a genuine problem that need to be brought to Daz staff attention so that they can get it fixed.
So anybody getting duplicate errors please file a support ticket. You need to be able to look up your help log file so that Daz knows what product is causing the issue and why.
I've only ever seen this "duplicate formulas found" message as I was creating customs morphs myself and loaded scenes and subsets that contained "embedded" morphs from earlier in the creation process.
Regardless of that I already had saved those custom morphs as Morph Assets to my content library, Daz Studio tried to load the embedded morphs from the old scene files and subSets first and then also from the DSF morph file in the data folder that was saved lateron. The fix for me was to delete the figure with the embedded morphs from the scene and load it again from the library to get rid of the"duplicate formulas found" message.
See what I've written about the issue in detail here: Update Custom Morphs?
Similar case of G8F not loading onto scene and then either freezes or crashes DAZ Studio 11/12 has happened on my machine 24 hours ago.
I was able to trace the app that has caused this huge mess: XTransfer (G3 to G8 morphs). The app has either corrupted the metadata of Genesis8 upon conversion of a g3f/g7f/v7 model or has created corrupted dsf and obj files.
Uninstalling Xtransfer did not solve the error.
Uninstalling and then reinstalling Essenitials from DIM did not solve the error..
Uninstalling and then reinstalling DAZ Studio did not solve the error.
Solution which worked and "revived" G8F: I was able to trace Xtransfer leftover G8F files in Roaming and appdata on system drive. Deleting all XTransfer directories and then updating the metadata did the trick.
None of thos uninstalls would remove new content created, by conversion. You would need to do that maually from the approriate sub folder of /Data/Daz 3D/Genesis 8/Female/Morphs/ Clearly this is not a universal issue with XTransfer, there must have been some other factor involved.
I'm also experiencing some loading problems with G8F. So my question is what could affect the loading time. I have installed third party poses and morphs, so I'm not sure which of this could affect my loading time.
Do you get any errors on loading the figure?
Apparently Daz has no answer or solution. This is a serious issue that they either refuse to or are incapable of correcting. Can any users step in using plain language on how to correct this?
Which issue, the last message in this thread is from May 2020.
