    Many heads not converting correctly.

I did a batch conversion on all my G3F's and many of them resulted in G8F versions in which the head did not convert correctly. There could be other shape errors as well, but so far all I noticed is the heads. See the attached picture.

    I'm using Studio 4.11.

That happens when you have moved the figure from the origin (where it loads by default).  You need to delete the morphs and reconvert without moving the figure.

Thanks for your time and effort to help me diagnose this problem.

As for the possibility that I loaded and moved the character, I don't think that's what happenned.

I did not load any characters. Therefore, I did not move any characters.

The script loaded the characters. Therefore, the script moved the G8F character.

I checked this by re-converting the Mika7 character only, as a test.

As the script did it's work, I noticed the feet of the G3F and G8F characters the script had loaded in. I took a screenshot. Look at the feet in the screen shot I attached to this post. One of the characters is X-translated to the right, about where the head ends up when the character morph gets applied. I did not do that. The script did that.

To run this test, I started a fresh session of Daz Studio and ran the script immediately, without having loaded any models of any type whatsoever.

Why is the script loading one of the figures X-translated like that? Where is it getting that X-translation value from?

I think you must have moved the figure on your first use of the 2020 method (this might have been a long time ago).  On first run, the script creates a clone (and never recreates it).  That is what I see to the right.  You need to delete the clone so the script will regenerate it.  It is located at The clone to delete should be in C:/Users/USER NAME/AppData/Roaming/DAZ 3D/Studio4/CharacterConverterMorphs.

Yes! That fixed it. Thanks for yr help!

But the head still came out with the wrong shape. I guess that's because Mika7 is a fantasy headed figure, elf ears and all. The tolerance was set to 12.26. I don't remember whether that is the default value or whether I set it to that. I guess I'll try it again with a different tolerance, after consulting the instructions on what might be good tolarance values to try.

    Update:

Yes. Tolerance set to .02 did ok getting the head shape right. But it did make it a bit small. I had to scale up the head 8.2% to make it match the G3 version.

    Ok. Here's another one.

The next character I tried to convert was Aiko 7. I guess the shape came out ok. But the UV's got misaligned. How do I fix that?

The converted characters use the G8 UVs.  If you want to use G3 materials with G8, you would need something like:
    https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-character-uvs-for-genesis-8-female
    https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-character-uvs-for-genesis-8-male

BTW, I would set the tolerance WAY lower, like 0.00005.

How do I get the script to produce a G8 version that does not use the G8 UV's?

I tried to specify "Do Not Copy" for the Material Preset and that woked once, for the Aiko 7 conversion. But when I tried that for the Bethany 7 conversion, it did not work. For Bethany 7, it still gave me the G8 UV's.

It is not possible.  The G8 UVs will be used.  The Aiko probably used the Aiko 8 materials (if you have that).  If you do "do not copy", it will use the default G8F materials.

Oh. I'm sorry I wrote the wrong thing. I meant to say:

"How do I get the script to produce a G8 version that DOES use the G8 UV's?"

So what I mean is that I think I got Aiko 7 to produce a G8F version of Aiko 7 that did use the G8F UV's by using the "Do Not Copy" setting. But that this did not work when doing the Bethany 7 figure. Bethany 7 came up with G3F UV's regardless of what settings I used, whether "Do Not Copy" or otherwise.

    Oh, wait. My apologies again!

It actually did what I wanted, but had me fooled into thinking it did the wrong thing.

What happens is the script produces a G8 version with the G8 UV's applied, but it loads G3 texture maps onto the figure. All I have to do is go find texture maps from another G8 figure I already have and put them on the newly made G8 figure to replace the G3 texture maps that don't fit.

Yeah, if you have the "Copy" on it will try as there are some textures maps that might work.

I am glad you got it working.

Please delete, mods - I think I solved the problem!

But while I'm here, let me say RieverSoft that I *love* your work!

    Hi Riversoft!

Last time I was able to get the script to run, I ran into problem #1: I seemed to be able to use the Scene converter, but not the batch converter ("Character Converter"). When I inputed a directory, it only identifies things like horns - which your wonderful tutorial vid said the check was specifically supposed to avoid. No characters are identified or listed. Any thoughts? I did note that in your vid you say that "preset shapes" aren't handled by the product? Since I use the Content Library almost exclusively, this is what I'm used to applying to characters (preset shapes)..

Apologies if this is a simple mistake on my part!

Problem #2: I'm now getting the following error:

    2021-01-15 16:11:00.184 WARNING: Script Error: Line 171

2021-01-15 16:11:00.184 WARNING: ReferenceError: Can't find variable: RemoveMaterialsUnknownPaths

    I've re-installed (re-imported & overwritten) without success. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your help!

This is definitely an installation error.  RemoveMaterialsUnknownPaths is in the basic conversion functions file.  If you installed through Connect, don't. I would uninstall, make sure everything is deleted, and then reinstall with DIM or manually.  If that still doesn't work, please post the log from the start of conversion.  BTW, do you have any of the other Character Conversion products?

Hi! Is there anything else I need to delete besides the clone to avoid getting the stretched neck issue? I deleted the clone and then loaded a fresh character without moving them and then loaded a G8. It had me run the initial step again to create the clone. Everyting appeared to be running properly. During my previous failed attempts the G3 and G8 were standing next to each other after a time until the conclusion when the new G8 with the applied morphs showed up all weird. This time they stayed completely together and I thought I was home free. But then it finished and the newly created version had a crazy neck again. I feel I'm making progress, but I must still be missing something.

You need to delete the clone and then identify and delete previously converted morph that is causing the neck stretching issue.

Okay, I will hunt around some more and see what I can find.

Wow, I made a serious mess with my initial mistake, but I FINALLY found everything. I have my very first converted character! Woot! Thank you for making this possible, RiverSoft.

Good day, I used this tool to convert Rune 7, it seems to work, but the converted character only appears under content library pane and not the Smart content pane. Also when I check my "Rune G8 figure" I don't see the newly converted figures character slider but i do see all my other characters sliders. Am I doing something wrong or is this functioning as expected?

In case this helps, all my Daz3D content is on a seperate drive from my C, and the converted character is located here: V:\Daz3DStudio\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\People\Genesis 8\Female\Characters(G3F_to_G8F)

All the morphs including the CTRL morph for the character should be under there.

The Character preset directory is fine.  We are looking for the morphs and CTRL.  If you do a search in V:\Daz3DStudio\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\data\Daz 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Morphs for "*Rune*.*" nothing shows up?

Do you see the character in Smart Content (Files)?

Oh I see her under Smart Content (files section) I have only ever used Smart Content (products section), is that the only place she will show up? Admittedly I am not familiar with all the folder structures for Daz studio, had hoped the product would just do everything with me not having to know much...

I assume the morphs are in the wrong location, any ideas why, is it a bug or did I configure something wrong?

The morphs only show under the parameters tab, not under the shaping tab like so many other character morphs, but I guess everything works.

Yeah, I don't know why that is.  It seems that DS will struggle to show them in Shaping unless you go in and "Accept" the morph, then it seems to find it and put it in its correct path for shaping.

  • How exactly do I "accept" the morph, first time hearing about this?

Find the morph, click the gear, Parameter Settings..., click Accept

  • Wow, kinda silly that that works, even more silly that the change isn't permanent. Oh well, thanks for all your help.

  • Is the converter able to convert Genesis 3 HD characters, I tried it on this character : https://www.daz3d.com/the-disruptor-alien-hd-for-genesis-3-male , but the result is not what I expected
