Hi, I just used the Face Transfer (free version) for the first time. I saved it but after making my scene I wanted to use the character with the new face but could not find it anywhere.
How do I find the new face to put on the Genesis 8 Female?
Thanks

Saved how? If you justbsave a scene it doesn't keep the face - you need to use the save option in Face Transfer, usable three times for free, to have access to the (unwatermarked) face in future without rerunning the transfer.
I used the save in Face Transfer.
My save went into Scene Subsets>Face Transfer
Thanks. Found it.
How do people rate face transfer in terms of accurate likeness, with the scale of 1 being bad and 10 being spot-on excellent ?
1- REALLY BAD!
can't even replicate a female Genesis 3!! with only the face exposed!!
Daz, you got very ambitious this time...
Thanks for the response, Zilvergrafix.
The two males I did were very good, I would say an 8. But for females, bad, I would give it only a 2.
I don't think it does enough morphs? I am just speculating here but it is my impression from the work people have posted that it just pastes face texture on face and moves geometetry a little. I think that this type of software needs multiple photo from multiple angles and some work in a 3d modeler or something like 3d paint or zbrush to have decent results. I have tried the paid for software that does face transfers and it just does not work period. I end up just buying the morphs that people make and put up for sale on renderosity and am pleased with how close the likeness is. I think it is just too much work to make a real likeness and the face software is like step one and the rest needs fixing in serious software.
Yeah I'm very very not thrilled with this transfer at all either. I tried it so many times but the face doesn't look right at from the picture. But other users I've seen did a good job with it. Can someone please help me what can I do to fixed this? Thank you
don't use an image with anything that obstructs the face or one that has harsh lighting... whatever is in the area of the face in the source image will be projected onto the texture
you have already the "face transfered", now change the material with some G8 figure at 100%, save as subset and voila.
Well, I wouldn't expect good results if you're trying to put an anime face on a realistic looking figure... of course it's going to look bad.
I am curious about other real faces though.... can anyone else post pictures please??
I already have the FaceGen Artist Pro from a purchase done before the deployment of D|S4.12.
I haven't had a chance to play with either the new D|S, or even with the FaceGen Pro yet before the deployment, so I have a few questions regarding this change:
I am wondering how will this built-in feature interact with the FaceGen Pro?
Are there any impact or adverse issues I need to be aware of?
And since I've not yet tried to open up FaceGen Pro, how will I be able to tell the difference between which application I'm using? I don't want to end up using the 3 freebie slots for the 4.12 when I will be wanting to create faces using the FaceGen.
Thanks,
Ryuu
I agree, definitely needs more morphs. I think more morphs would help make them look more like the person. If a person has a long thinner face then no matter what I do it just doesn't look anything like the person, I can't get the nose or lips to look right either. Take for instence Angelina Jolie (just for an example) she has a longer thinner face and her lips are, well a little larger, no matter what a person can do it would just never look like her.
Real faces.
Well that's a conundrum if you won't use your plugins
I guess you will never know
a) I am wondering how will this built-in feature interact with the FaceGen Pro? It won't unless you try to name & categorized the morphs created in both software with the same names & categories. And that is a lot of work for you to try so you'll know that you've already named one that way before you try to do the other.
b) Are there any impact or adverse issues I need to be aware of? No. You can argue the actual geometries for the morphs created by Face Transfer aren't good but maybe you will like them even if other don't.
c) And since I've not yet tried to open up FaceGen Pro, how will I be able to tell the difference between which application I'm using? I don't want to end up using the 3 freebie slots for the 4.12 when I will be wanting to create faces using the FaceGen. You can create many thousands of morphs or more. You are limited to how high the OS operating system allows the count of files to go in a directory than by number of morphs the SW can create. FaceGen you must start outside of DAZ Studio in a separate application while Face Transfer is started in DAZ Studio. Once the morphs are created you won't be able to tell if they are FaceGen or Face Transfer or a DAZ Original or a PA morph unless you name the morph in a way that explicitly states that or reminds you in some way.
Most of my DS compositions are character based, and as a writer I use Daz to create characters, sometimes for book covers, but I always want unique characters so that none of mine ever appear anywhere else. I began with Genesis and Genesis 2; skipped 3, but so far only have one created from the G8F (I've found I always get better results with G2), so I bought the Face Transfer in part for to help with G8, but mostly in preparation for G9 when it eventually appears. I've used FaceGen for when an actual person inspires a character, usually an actor or actress, but with mostly poor results. However, I've tried a 3 experiments with Face Transfer and each one has been closer to the photograph than I ever got with FaceGen, though so far I've not saved any as I've not had the time to do the necessary tweaking which is essential, and that can take hours.
Re Zilvergrafix "Real faces" above, the Natalie Portman rendition is more disappointing than I would have expected considering the short hair. Other photos I've tried where there's hair touching or just covering the jaw and cheekbones have all failed, as above, as there's always that sharp jawline distortion. Another photo I tried in which the hair was short also had some red-tinged lighting, so on using Face Transfer half of the face came out a totally different colour! I would have preferred Face Transfer not to add skin colour as that can be done to one's preferences independently.
why I get message like this 'face transfer failed to generate try a different source image' pls help me!
What was the source image? I'm not sure it would give that error, but have you isntalled the updated Genesis 8 Starter Essentials?
Face Transfer definitely seems to get the nostrils smushed in a lot of the images. Yeah, it does look like it needs to have more precision, more morphs. But the more morphs for G8's face you have, the better the results might be, yeah?
Can someone tell me how to download the Face Transfer Unlimited trial (version)
Thank you
You don't download it. It's part of latest DS, 4.12. Windows 64 bit. It's free unlimited so long as you don't save it. You get three free saves.
Ok so I reinstalled daz like 5 times now last time I reinstalled everythig ! but I keep getting a "plugin failed to load" error I have attached screenshot of the error and the version im running does anyone know what might be wrong ?
This may be the issue with the required Visual C++ Runtime:
Thanks Richard that solved it !
One reason can be that it is not a "head" ... one of the images I used in my tutorial illustrates that. If all you have is a close-up on the face, in an image editor put it inside a "head" frame and try again.
I think there's information in my tutorial which may be of interest for your projects.
The sharp jaw morphing ... the lighting needs to be more even as the plugin appears to be reading the "light" of the face as the edge of the face.
After you have saved as a scene subset THROUGH the plugin, then you can tweak the images which will be located in your texture folders.
