"Duplicate Formulas Found" is KILLING me!

I always hope for a simple solution, but...

The trouble began when I started using Riversoft's "Character Converter from Genesis 3 Females to Genesis 8 Females".  I'll start by saying that when the product is running, I love it a lot.  However, it has created a situation where every time I load in a Genesis 8 female figure, the load time is absolutely glacial.  It's especially bad when loading any scene I've been working on that contains a Gen 8 female.  As an example, I loaded a simple scene that contained two Gen 8 females, and the it took 50 minutes just to load the scene.  As the end of the loading process of any Gen 8 female is nearing, I get a pop-up that says, "Duplicate Formulas Found in files.  Make sure that the content is properly installed.  See the log file for more details."

When I check the log file, the duplicate formulas are being blamed on either all the parameters for Vyktohria's "Sad Sue" Genesis 3 figure (if I'm loading in any Gen 8 female figure other than the basic Gen 8 female character), or all the parameters of DogZ's "200 Plus Head and Face Morphs for Genesis 3 Females" (if I'm loading in the generic Gen 8 female figure).

If I'm loading in any other generation of character, it takes seconds to load.  Ditto if I'm loading in any Gen 8 male figure.

I don't know if I should try uninstalling "Sad Sue" and "200 Plus..." to see if that fixes it, or if maybe I should uninstall the character converter product.  I really don't want to do any uninstalling, as I would then feel like I'm throwing away money.  But I can't continue on with these incredible slow load times, either.

Any ideas on this would be greatly appreciated, as I am sometimes as technically adept as a dung beetle.  Thanks.

Did you convert a Genesis 3 version of those products, as well as having the Genesis 8 version?

Load speed is heavily dependent on the number of morphs installed - if you cnverted all your older morphs for the female then that is probably the cause of the delay, rather than the Duplicate Formulae warnings.

I think thats what is happening with my G8F alot of warning errors in script I may post asking how to purge and re install a character

  • I did convert a LOT of Genesis 3 female figures to Genesis 8 figures (as that's the point of the product).  By "a lot" I mean I converted about 80 figures.  So are you suggesting that the slowdown is being caused by having 80 Genesis 3 figures AND a lot of Genesis 8 figures AND 80 figures that I converted from Gen 3 to Gen 8?  Did I just...over-do it when I was doing conversions?

Should I be purging my library of a bunch of figures?  Or is there something else I might try?  Thanks for responding, too.

I do not have that product. I do know that if a 'character' is not saved correctly, it will unneccessarily be coping over EVERY morph into itself.

There can only be one morph per name of such, so if there be 2 morphs [or more via copying] with the same name, yes there would be a lot of error messages.

If they are referencing "one figure" then remove that figure from the contents folder ... then open D/S and see if those error messages stop.

If this was just an isue of converting older versions to newer ones then it wouldn't affect me because I haven't done any of that. No sir, it's a glitch affecting a huge majority of DS users with G8 and I don't really care if it's a problem that comes from vendors miss-naming their morphs or DS itself, because I would asume DAZ Corp would have sorted out the issue during their vetting of products before they were approved for sale.

If a product offered for sale by Daz has parameters that cause a possible glitch or conflict within DS then I would expect that product to be sent back to the vendor for rectification before being put on the market. Conflicts arising from duplicated morph names etc. Isn't this what the vetting process is supposed to be all about?

  • If it helps to see some of the log file, here's a sample of what happens when I load in the basic Genesis 8 female figure:

  • Okay, it looks like I did myself a favor by figuring out how to properly remove the offending Gen 8 figure AND its morphs.  I hadn't gone into data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 8/Female/Morphs/VENDOR NAME/PRODUCT NAME to delete the folder.  Now that I have, I'm not getting any Duplicate Formula pop-ups and the log file is clean.  Most importantly, load times are back where they should be.  Huzzah!  I can't tell you how depressed I was getting over this.  I'm not sure why it was that one character that was causing all the trouble, but it is what it is.

Thanks for patiently putting up with my panic!  =)

By the way, if I've never said it before (and I probably haven't) I'm so grateful for these forums, because they have solved so many problems--both simple and complicated--that I've encountered since I've been using Daz Studio.

I suggest submitting a help request to inform Daz3D about the problem.  If is really is a product problem, and not an issue with your configuration, you could save other people from the same problem by reporting it.

I've only been having this issue with 4.12. I've loaded scene subsets and scenes saved under 4.11 and they almost all generate duplicate formula errors where they did not when pened with 4.11. Thing is, other than fouling my load times, they don't seem to affect anything else.

i really wish daz would give us the option to disable these errror alerts in daz studio's preferences.

Which character did you delete? Was it Sad Sue? Was it reported to Daz? I get that warning all the time and it drives me crazy too. Maybe we should let Vyktohria know about it if Daz won’t do anything.

  • Even though my difficulty seems to be fixed, you're right, I'll follow up with a report to hopefully save someone else the headache.

Yes, it was Vyktohria's Sad Sue character that I had to remove.  To be fair, Riversoft does mention in the documentation that some figures with somewhat extreme features (especially around the eye area) can be problematic when using the Character Converter product.  Sad Sue is such a figure, I would say.

I'm just thrilled I now don't have load times that can take as long as doing my laundry.

They told me once that bug report testing is done with "minimal products installed" (i.e. only what's necessary for testing the product in question).  If that's the case with QA testing also they probably won't catch problems like this before release.

They told me once that bug report testing is done with "minimal products installed" (i.e. only what's necessary for testing the product in question).  If that's the case with QA testing also they probably won't catch problems like this before release.

Plus, QA has no way of knowing what other products one might have installed that were purchased elsewhere, There is no foolproof way to test for that.

Well, behind the scenes chatter said it was a certain vendor's product causing the problems, but I deleted the character in question (don't remember who) and it hasn't solved the problem.. So how do we solve this? It's just PLAIN STUPID that it hangs up your studio. You have to sit there and wait for the popup before you can X out of it and the studio continues.

And no, I hadn't converted anything. So it IS NOT THAT causing the problem for me.

I also resolved by deleting problematic repetitive morphs. Not even support was able to offer a solution. I had to figure it out..

The log identifies which specific characters and morphs are causing the "Duplicate Formulas" problem. If removing one character/morph package doesn't resolve the problem, it's because you have other problematic packages in your library. Clear your scene, clear your log, reload the G3/G8 base character, check your log for the next problem package. Lather, rinse, repeat until the problem disappears.

It was quite an ordeal to figure out. 1st I thought it was 4.12 then after going back to 10 without change re install the older G8F starter essential files no change back between 4.12 and 4.10 ect..

I wanted to add that not ALL WARNINGS are going to slow character loading. Its important to time and experiment..

Daz really does need to figure out a way for models to load without dragging studio down. It serves them to do so. This is a content store, so they want people to buy lots of content. But buying and installing lots of content can slow down loading times. And a single instance of a duplicate formula can straight up murder load times. Studio should be able to more quickly skip through such errors. After all, if people are worried about their growing library making Studio ever slower, they may cut back on how much content they buy. I don't think Daz wants that! So finding a better method for loading would be well worth the investment.

First, create an new option in Studio for how it handles such errors in its settings. The user can choose to be notified like now, or choose between a couple options to quickly bypass these errors. Option #1, default to the older instance of the effected morph, or #2, default to the newer instance of the morph. Perhaps a 3rd option could be that if a Daz original base morph is involved, then it defaults to the Daz original everytime, assuming this is possible.

So with this option, anytime a duplicate is found Studio can quickly power through them. An error box is generated to notify the user, but only after everything is finished loading, resulting in faster loading.

Fully agree its counter productive. I feel that I have to worry about installing more content and feel I will have to test following every installations. I don't know why DS is becoming such an ordeal to use. Along with all the big bugs that don't get addressed with studio itself as well. I never received support or a solution folllowing my ticket either..

  • My characters have been taking forever to load for months. I just deal with it although I'd love a fix. Duplicate errors galore...

I'm not sure if I'm adding to the discussion or introducting a red herring, but here goes.

I'm currently rendering a very large scene in the 4.12 beta, based on the recently released Cabin In The Snow, (Wow, what a beautiful set, and the scene is turning out really nice.) There are a lot of props in my scene, and a lot of geometry shells, as I'm using DA Let it Snow to add snow to a large number of props.

Unrelated, my GPU stopped rendering and when I closed DS, the memory on the card was not released. So I restarted the computer to clear the video card's memory.

After rebooting, I decided to test rendering the scene in 4.11 and got Duplicate Formula errors. Loading this same scene in 4.12 later did not get any Duplicate Formula errors. In fact, serching the beta log.txt file for "duplicate" produced no results at all.

I was able to determine the Duplicate Formula errors in the file are due to the Let it Snow product and custom treatment of the geometry shells. But I also think it could be due to creating the scene in 4.12 and then opening it in 4.11. The Beast is busy rendering, but in a day or two, I'll see what happens creating a scene file in 4.11 using the product, and see if the errors show up when I reload in 4.11. Or even if they show up when loading the 4.11 created scene in 4.12.

Anyway, I wanted to mention my issue because it has nothing to do with duplicate morphs. I have only the base G3M figure in the scene, along with the Hivewire Mule Deer, (based on the Hivewire Horse.) Neither figure caused the issue.

Ain't happening. My time is valuable, and it should be ON DAZ to have a system that prevents this from happening, and when it does, THEY fix it. Piss poor QA gets buyers into trouble, then QA should fix the problematic packages.  I do admire your go-getter attitude though!  wink

@Novica "it should be ON DAZ to have a system that prevents this from happening"

How would you expect DAZ to be able to check all possible product loads from all possible to vendors to catch these errors?

Because they should have ALL products ever sold in their computers and test each new product before it is released...

Some errors come from Rendo products and freebies as well

@ draine761_c7a1098aa1, One of my friends has that script, I was over there on Saturday "fixing" several 3D issues he was having, I got to play with it for a while then showed him how to use it afterwards.

I suspect that you had managed to convert those morphs twice, but that you had "overwrite existing morphs" unchecked the second time, which buggered the DSF asset files it was trying to create.

With things like this I normally jump in feet first and start pushing buttons, however I have the experience and knowledge to know that anything I break I can usually fix quite easily. I checked the PDF manual after I'd finished playing with the script, just to see if I'd missed anything, and guess what the last paragraph is about.

@ Everyone else, head to "data > DAZ3D > Genesis 8" and right click on the "Female" folder, select properties from the menu, now check how many files are in that folder. Under 2K shouldn't have any slowdown, under 5K you might have some slowdown but nothing bad, under 10K a bit worse than 5K, over 10K and boy are you going to be in a world of hurt the higher that file count goes.

That assumes that you aren't getting a pile of error messages, if you are then all bets are off.
