Sudden Catastrophic Problem With Files

For some reason my DAZ program has been suffering some severe problems lately, mainly in making so many files inaccessible that the whole thing is generally unusable. First began yesterday when some products and poses were stated as missing or needed installing. Today though so many of my props have become useless, shapeless lumps and the array of poses so sevrely restricted as to be completely useless.Programstill starts but is so messed up I can't really work with it
I made no changes to the files other than to download recent purchases (including installing DAZ Studio 4.12) *after* the program had already begun. I am completely baffled and frustrated and have no idea what to do as everything just seems to be getting worse and worse. Desperately need advice.

Don't install content while Studio is running.
I was having the problem already anyway. Most of the problem seems to have cleared up with a restart of my computer, though some files still seem to remain missing.
That should not be an issue, closing DS and starting DIM is more likely to cause an issue as it can lead to PostgreSQL being offline during the install.
Richard, that seems to be different guidance than you have offered in the past. Personally I still think one is asking for trouble running DIM while Studio is opening.
I was, a fair way back, under the impression that DS (and Carrara) should be closed when using DIM, and vice0versa, but I was sent for reeducation.
Soooo.... is that it? Can't anyone offer me some advice that's a tad more constructive about how to fix my problem? It's still telling me it can't find some files, and though it's not as totally broken as yestersay it's still annoying not to be able to use files I bought and paid for! :-(
Edited for profanity
Please give some specific examples of things it can't find.

Well, in a project I selected pretty much at random but typical of what I do, it lists a set of evidently related files but I am unsure what to do for fear of making the problem worse in my usual admittedy hamfisted fashion.

Also the problem is not consistent. A bed prop I use is perfectly fine in one .duf file I made some months ago but the same prop I made in a slightly later duf file is partially invisible; the blankets appear but the frame does not. Typing bed in the DAZ search engine turns up most;y blanks now.
The exclamation mark in the frame means that the thumbnail can't be found or read, the exclamation mark at lower left means that the file itself can't be found. The lower case paths indicate content installed through Connect, rather than DIM, as far as I know - that's how the database stores the path. The (2) indicates that the fiels were duplicated and added to the database, have you used any content management/conversion tools or tried saving things using the File>Save As>Support Assets menu in the past?
Ok. I hope it the reeducation camp wasn't too painful
Uhh... I'm not sure. I don't think so.I've beenusing DAZ Install manager consistent;y for years, but some of my files do date from when DAZ Studio was using the 3.0 version and downloading was a complete;y different process. I had to switch to a new account early on but simply copied the files I bought earliest into m new account. had no trouble until this nonsense began just a few days ago.
So how do i make it find the file? I don't really know where to look for themif they aren't where they not only should be but actually were until just a few days ago. Also having problems finding some poses from the Kimberly Genesis I collection even though it finds others, certain hair products and so on. It's allrather bizarre and haphazard near as I can see.
I don't know - though I do have one question, are you using OneDrive at all?
I don't even know what that is.
It's the Microsoft answer to Google drive tec., if you use a Microsft log-in for Windows 10 (that is, an email from Outlook or whatever) then it weill be on by default and will move fiels from your documents folder to the OneDrive-synched folder - which is likely to cause issues for the CMS with content installed to the Documents folder.
I don't use Winods 10; my computer uses Windows 7. Does that make a difference? This problem was appearing *before* i switched to 4.12 from the previous version by the way, not just afterward.
Yes, I don't think OneDrive was plumbed in to the same extent in Windows 7 - I asked because it has caused issues for others, so seemed worth checking.
Any other ideas that might help me? It's not as catastrphic as it was, but it's still annoying as some props and products still seem inaccessible for whatever reason.
Silly question, but have you tried resetting your product database? Click on your Content Library Tab then the hamburger icon in the top corner, then content DB maintenenace. I'd start with Reset Database (check box - Accept).
Not at all a silly question, even though I knew I would have to probably do something of the sort; I just didn't/don't how to do it.. Problem is, I see no icon *anywhere* that looks even remotely like a hamburger to me, and nothing I do see and try leads me to anything saying anything about content DB maintenance pr rfeset database. Could you attach a picture that shows me what it looks like on your screen?
Try right-clicking on the pane's tab.
(Slaps side of own head)
Sometimes I do have to have the obvious pointed out to me.![blush blush](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/embarrassed_smile.png)
However, It not only did not help but somehow seems to have made things much much worse. It now seems to want me to re-insert virtual every file in my library. Am I going to have to do that one by one or is there a faster way to do it?
Right now I am assuming that clicking the re-importing metadata tab is the way to go, as I seem tio recall having to do that once befoe a number of years ago (just couldn't remember how to do that until you showed me just now).
Aaannnnd most of my stuff such as poses is now *completely* gone, leaving me far worse off than I was before. My list of sittign poses for instances used to need several scroll downs from top to bottom to see them all. Now i can see what are left in one page;ondicating better than 80% of them have disappeared; leaving not even the '!' icon i was seeing for them before.
Wjat happened and what do I now now?
Help!![sad sad](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/sad_smile.png)
Yes, Reimport Metadata should restore your Daz products, and third-party products that came with metadata, to the database. You should still be able to find everything in the Content Library pane, however, under Daz Studio Formats/Poser Formats as those views - other than the Daz Connect virtual folders - do not depend on the database but are purely a view of the files on disc.
I still had to go to the Products tab under smart content to install (or rather re-install) a ton of different products, but fortunately I'm not in any hurry as long as it fixes the problem. Mostly seems to work (if taking a long time) but still getting a ! mark for something very important sounding called Built-in Content and (weirdly randomly) for Sci-fi Weapons Collection, though that one is evidently a Poser File and doesn't sound like a biggie. Any idea how to find the 'built-in content' file for a fix?
I think built in content is the starter essential stuff.
Okay, so how do I get it back? Remember, you're talking to an absolute dolt here!![blush blush](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/embarrassed_smile.png)
Do you have the various Starter Essentials and the Default Resources installed?
Pretty sure I did, since I must have used them because I found out I don't have them now because i used them in a render I'd made previously and was re-opening.
corrupt database - run the database manager and fix the database before you do anything else.
How do I do that? I don'tknow where it is.
