I hate to insert random ideas into a thread attempting to troubleshoot a problem, but, based upon the tried-and-true troubleshooting principle of a process of elimination, the very first thing I would have done is check the status of the hard drive. Run a hard drive diagnostic to confirm the integrity of the drive (always have a backup of any important files first). The file problems that you are experiencing could easily be caused by a failing drive. If that is not the case, then you can move on or return to other possible causes.
Newb that I am, even I would have noticed by now of that was the case. Besides the drive is less than a year old.
As you wish, but the age of the drive is immaterial. I had a brand new drive that went pear-shaped straight out of the box, which I caught before I even put any files on it because I always run a diagnostic on them before putting them to use. Any drive can fail at any time. I hope you get your issue sorted.
What I mean though is that I use it (an external drive btw) for *everything* I make not just DAZ files, so if it was glitching it would have surely shown up up my non-DAZ projects by this time. But so far I have had no problems with it elsewhere. Anyway nar as i can tell I just have to re-install all thefiles I have which it seems to have u installed rather randomly - still numbering in the thousands however but fortunately most I rarely use for there's no big hirry. Thanks for the tips though.
Right click one of your missing prop files and click "Browse to File Location..." and see what happens.
Go to Edit > Preferences > Content > Content Directory Manager > Daz Studio Formats. Check if your content folders are correctly entered there.
Assuming you mean in the content library, I'm not seeing that browse to file location option on any files, whether they are missing or not.
With the other one though you may have something there. I'd moved the public doducments to my external drive because of lack of room in my C drive. With the other material though I left the directory for the C drive but (I think) have removed the contents there to the external drive as well, and have not updated that in a couple of years. So I'll try updating the external drive's files and changing the directory over it to see what happens. In process now but it may take a while. And I think the installs I'ev just been doing have been going to the C drive rather than to the external like i thought it was for that part of it. That may explain my problem.
Whether it works or not, thanks.
Edit: Nope. Didn't seem to change anything. The pathways I found are valid. Not sure but that I might be missing some though. There were only two lines there... bith now to my J external drive.
Going back to 2013 when I first started with DS I read somewhere on the forums that one shouldn't have Daz open when downloading via the IM, so I never have and I've never had a problem.
It's not a problem as long as you give the PostgreSQL processes time to shut down after exiting the one application before starting the other, but as far as I am aware it is - by design - OK to run the applications side-by-side (edit: confirmed by Rob).
I'd say that ship has sailed.
I'm having a new puzzling compliment. I have hundreds - if not thousands - of files I am trying to re-install. I can't use the DIM because the files don't show up as needing installation there, so I've been selecting them one by one listed in the Products Tab. The thing is, I don't know what files they go to when I do this. All I can see is that they seem to be filling up my C drive fast, and at the rate I am going will fill it up to capacity long before i fiish. But I can't tell where these installed files are; all attempts to track them down directly turn up nothing; yet my C drive is filling up. Is there a way to make the files install into my J drive (which has tons of room to spare and is the ione I have DAZ access anyway for DAQZ files) from there? Or can someone tell me where DAZ is installing these files so I can move them to my J drive.
I know I'm a tech dunce, but this is baffling the stuffings out of me.![blush blush](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/embarrassed_smile.png)
