Question about Inside Linday’s Daz Studio iRay Scenes

Question about https://www.daz3d.com/inside-lindays-daz-studio-iray-scenes

I love Linday's promos and am curious about what goes into them but confused about how one would replace "required" products that says in the copy can be replaced and how is this a merchant resource?  Does anyone have this?

I guess PAs can use the scene and replace a figure or hair or other asset with their own?  Can't imagine there would be a lot of takers for that purpose.

This would have made sense if it was combined with a bundle or stacking sale, but just like that?  I guess it seemed like a good idea.  Lovely renders, though.

I was curious about this set as well, but then I noticed that these "promo" scenes don't really look a whole heap like the ones I've drooled over on Linday's other product pages.

  • i think its a great tool for someone learning how to set up render scenes, to peek under the covers, so to speak. More than just here's a prop, here's a character- it would show the entire thing, the render settings, etc? If you're wanting to learn how great renders are set up it's a good way to see that especially if you're one who learns by looking at stuff rather than tutorials. I'm hoping to grab it soon myself.

Hi, what we wanted to say is that you can replace hair, clothing, characters, props etc., since we understand that it´s almost impossible for customers to have everything that is used in scenes. We meant it as as a starting point  when building scene. Merchant resource- you can use scenes and renders (tweaked or not)  for  commercial purposes.

But would it bring up a "file not found" warning or what if you don't have the product? I'm always wanting to learn more from others by example but still confused how this works

A "Missing Files" dialog box comes up for any items that you don't have in your library.

I was pleased to discover that I had all but five of the required items. One was PC+, three were on sale, and the fifth was something I would not want to purchase unless it was free.

I think this product must have hit a new record for number of required products.

Like others have said a lot of character, clothing, hair or even props can be swapped out, but you are likely to need the lighting products in order to reproduce similar results as in the promos.

It's a neat idea, but with the plug and play mentality around here we;ll start seeing upteen million variations of each of Linday's promo images in the gallery soon, LOL

There are no unincluded lighting products. It uses HDRI's, which are included, along with Daz lights. The one I loaded had a Cake One HDRI. The product page addresses this: "there are no complicated lighting setups, lightning [sic] is mostly HDRI maps."

There are two light sets/hdri sets mentioned in the 'required produts' - the Click n Render IBL set (which I have) and the Iray HDRI Hazy Sunsets (which I don't have). But there are different hdri's included in the set?

I'm more interested in Linday's render settings and lighting - and the camera work. Anything I don't have just wouldn't load - correct? It doesn't stop the entire scene from loading? And then I can just replace stuff with what I want, or replace the entire scene if I wanted.

@melissastjames "these "promo" scenes don't really look a whole heap like the ones I've drooled over "

Several of these scenes come straight out of Linday products or were clearly associated with same but not shown on the Daz shop page.

     @jakiblue "Anything I don't have just wouldn't load"

You will get a Missing Files box. Just click ok. You may get a "block" figure if you don't have a particular prop. For instance, "Rough Day" I didn't have the Speed Bike, so the scene showed 3 bloacks in the rough shape of the Speed Bike main elements.

Actually, some of us had all but three of the "required" products (blush). It is easy to replace the missing items. I also found it useful to provide a sort of "guide" for stlyes and looks I don't normally do. I was happy to purchase.

excellent, thank you @fastbike1! Yep I figured it'd be the block thingys for what I don't have and that I could just skip the missing files etc. laugh Thought I'd better check tho

I'm kind of hoping for a version 2 of this, to be honest. I got really excited when I seen it in the store, but the promo images that stand out in my mind from Linday aren't featured in this one. That's not to say these aren't great renders, but they're not the droids I'm looking for. (Like pretty much all the images for Side Layerd Messy Hair lol

Sharing scenes is doable and an interesting part of studio.. If you save a scene and someone else has the same content it will load. Errors regarding specific content will pop up but you can still use it okay if the crucial scene files are owned by each person. You can also locate the missing files if your directory structure is the same. The gallery allows for uploading scene files as well..

note this does not share the content just the position and preferences of various items

I have shared a scene using Favreal's French Village in the DAZ Gallery. Of course you actually need Favreal's French Village but it is helpful to share things like that occasionally. Artistically I did nothing. All I did copy one of Favreal's advertisement renders in the DAZ Store as best I could, converted to Uberiray, added emissive lights where appropriate & saved. Then I uploaded that scene to the DAZ Gallery on the example render of that scene's DAZ gallery page.

I like shared scenes but I think I've only saw one other person ever share a scene they did in the DAZ gallery.

I'm going to share some more scenes to the DAZ Gallery but I've ran into technical difficulties getting the SBH I'm using to make fur to standards that I think are worthwhile to share so I'll hold off until I get better at it. I'll get there eventually but I'm not in a hurry.

I love this product. I struggle with dramatic scene lighting and this is pretty cool showing how to set everything up. Will dig in this weekend

I stand corrected. I had the HDRIs, and I didn't notice them in the voluminous list.

I really like this product and decided to take advantage of the lingering MM discounts to purchase about a hundo worth of related products which I supposed was the entire idea behind it.

I'll just use this to make amazing renders of my own characters or other products inserted. Worked this up from the base garage scene in about 5 minutes flat. I always tend to put the "-After Artist Name," if I based any render on anyone else's composition in any way. It's the polite thing to do.

As others have stated it's very easy to replace any missing products with things you do have installed.

Does anyone recognise the background scenery in the promo images of the sci fi pilot in red sitting on the speed jet in the desert type scenery? It's the 9th and 10th images in the pop up promos. I'm curious which is the ground with water puddle and background.

edit: i suspect the background mountains are actually the Iray HDRI Hazy Sunsets...but still wondering what the ground is.

The puddles probably from Iray Storm.  As for the ground that might be part of the included geometries.  It's not listed as a required item.

Thanks :) I just picked it up - I might do a post here listing things that are included.

    Portrait Scenes:

    The Bathroom Scene:

The floor, walls and mirror are included with product. They are planes with included shaders/textures on them. Genesis 8 Female loads in that pose also. It also loads with 1 distant light.

    The Garage Scene:

The floor is an included plane with included shader/texture by Linday. A "cube wall" is included with texture by Linday. (That's the red wall behind the lockers etc) Genesis 8 loads in that pose. No Daz Studio lights are included

    The Laundry Day Scene:

(this is the woman in the blue swimsuit/teddy/leotard)

It includes a plane with texture for the back wall and the floor. No DAZ studio lights included.  Genesis 8 loads in that pose.

    The Revealed Secrets Scene:

(woman in red sitting on safe)

I'm a bit confused on this one. There is something called "Plane Light-Optional Cam 5" but I have no idea if it's a light, a camera or from a product I don't own. There's no DAZ studio lights - unless that 'plane light' is one.

    Landscape Scenes:

    The Desert Date Scene:

    (woman sitting in truck)

The ground is an included plane with textures by Linday. Includes 1 spotlight. Genesis 8 loads in that pose. (uses HDRI from HDRI Hazy Sunsets and Deserts)

    The Devlins Tree Scene:

(warrior with horse and the hanging cage)

Ground is an included plane with textures by Linday. Genesis 8 and horse load in those poses. No daz studio lights.  (uses HDRI from HDRI Hazy Sunsets and Deserts)

The First Day At School Scene:

(two figures walking towards abandoned house)

Ground is included plane.  (uses HDRI from HDRI Hazy Sunsets and Deserts)

    The Gateway Scene:

    (man on catwalk with rain)

Included 1 distant light. No hdri's.

    The Rough Day Scene:

(sci fi pilot sitting on downed speed jet)

Included ground plane with texture. G8 loads in that pose (uses HDRI from HDRI Hazy Sunsets and Deserts)

The portrait scenes use the Click n Render IBL Set hdri's - that is a PC+ item so very affordable if you are a PC+ member. The landscape scenes seem to use the HDRI Hazy Sunsets and Deserts product, which is currently on sale for March Madness. G8F and G8M all load in their positions, and also the poses. If there is anything you don't own, you will get missing files dialogue boxes but you just click cancel or skip and the scene will still load, albeit with big grey boxes for anything you don't have. There are multiple cameras for every scene. In render settings, the size of the image is set (you can obviously change that) and the progressive settings are set too, but again, you can change that if you want.

I thought I would also post my effort with this. It's the Revealed Secrets scene. I did not have the same hair, outfit, background or books for the safe so I substituted. As indicated above, the lights used were the Click N Render IBL lights list in the product list. The additional plane light that is in the Camera 5 image  I believe may just be an emissive plane. It is a pretty cool product even if you don't have many of the items available

Just playing around with these scenes and trying to add my own twist.  I found the scene easy to work with and it helps that Linday put scripts in the root of each scene to take you to the needed products in the store, should you wish to purchase them. I was fortunate enough to already have MOST of the items, but did some of my own substitutions and changes anyway.

This started with the Devlins Tree Scene

I have another version rendering right now, will post it when it is done enough (this was stopped at 66%).

When I view this product's page on my PC in Chrome, the requirements include each of the characters. But when I view it on a tablet in Chrome, no characters (except for Madison HD) are listed. Glad to hear on this thread that it still loads without the characters.

    Android screenshot:

And even stranger: The full list of required products shows in Incognito mode on my tablet!

I've had fun changing the scenes up, too. Sometimes even when I own the "required" product, I use something else anyway, just for fun. Here are a few of my attempts.

    They look awesome, Barbult!

I'm really hoping @linday will do a second version of these - I'm loving digging around with the lights etc in it.
