And to use that product name for that hair. Ethereal Goddess? Having a mundane godless bad hair day ...

LOL! I'm sure there's room in mythology for the Goddess of Androgenetic Alopecia

I want to be careful not to be super rude... but looking at the product images for today's DE Laurence HD for Genesis 8 Male and the second product image for BD WIllow For Genesis 8 Female... does anyone else feel there's maybe a bit of a similar quality issue with the images as seen with this hair? I'm 100% just talking about the images and not the products, because both of the above products look good -- BD Willow is very unique and DE Laurence looks like a very realistic and highly detailed figure -- but the product images are a bit... erm... I'm particularly looking at the one of Laurence with his dog in what looks like Tellytubby-land on acid (sooo green!!) and the one of him dressed like a biker (he looks like he super wants to hang with Christian 8 and John Darwins Mishaps lol)...

Those are awkward, but they're usually the most convincing renders, to me, because they look easily achievable.

With Slosh hair shaders and adding GoldTassel's Dolly scalp, it looks okay. I think I'll find some use for it, since I can never have enough hair with bones. But I'm glad I didn't spend more than $2 for it.

Didn't mean to be rude, DAZ has earlier made some funny jokes during March Madness and the whole thing looked a bit odd to my sleep deprived brain so I was serious when I said that (got some sleep now...).

You shouldn't feel bad at all!! heart If you enjoy using it, it doesn't matter what anyone thinks of it, and maybe it'll be a fun challenge to play around with it and make it really shine/look its best :)

Thanks for the images. I was actually going to pick this up and try it out myself, as I REALLY ike the style of the hair (save for that tremendous parting on the top), but the promos made me a bit weary. After seeing it in use from your guys' images it confirms what I expected: it doesn't get much better, even with hair shaders. Looks alright for a background character, or a toon-ish image, but not worth it for me. Thanks.

I was skeptical about the parting because the promos clearly avoided showing it. They knew it was whack.

  • Well if enough people like the hair, one of the PAs that make hair could probably cash in on it and include a fix for the scalp in a texture expansion. heh, but I guess if they're willing to go through that much trouble, they would probably just make their own version of the hair.

So here's what the bones look like.  The pose controls are under Parameters, and not under "Actor" like you'd expect them, but under "Correctives".

I'd be upset if I'd paid more than the like two bucks for it.  There's no way to fix the scalp that I could find.

Thanks for this - I hadn't been able to find them & wondered why there was no posing. When I loaded it up on a character I am making, I did notice that there doesn't seem to be a skull cap... this seems like an oversight. Hopefully it will be updated.

Could you please post the menu path (?) to find the Correctives? It does not appear under any of my Parameters drop-downs.

I bought this hair because I really do like the style! I used a PC+ code for it, as I hadn't bought any other new things (*looking back, I would have done this differently - I would have bought https://www.daz3d.com/sci-fi-raider-outfit-for-genesis-8-females , and then this on top as it would've worked out pretty well price-wise... I think being new to all this has cost me a little sometimes! Hah!).

This sounds promising. Could you by any chance link to this if it is available somewhere? Otherwise, I guess I could try making a skull cap/scalp using a tutorial & merchant resource textures. I do like this hair a lot, and I'd like to use it correctly if I can. smiley

(EDIT: I think I found what you mean - the skull cap from https://www.daz3d.com/dolly-changeable-hair-for-genesis-8-female-s, maybe? If so, I will try and find something among what I already have, as otherwise I would be spending additional cash).

Looking at how the hair sits on the G8F skull in the Viewport, what I am seeing along the hairline and scalp does resemble what I used to see in hairs ported to Skyrim where the mod-maker had improperly fitted the hair to the head and sunk it to far into the skull, resulting in a widened and sparse-looking hairline - this plus the absence of a skull-cap used to give the same look I can see here. I have played with the cranium sliders some, but the hairline does move with the shape of the head, so there is likely something else that has happened. This is likely something which can be fixed pretty well by folks with good knowledge of hair-making.

Even though there is no auther name attached to the release & it needs a little further work, it would be nice if folks did not beat up on the model too much - maybe it is someone's first attempt at making a hair, which isnt easy by any means, & takes a lot of work and time to get a top-notch result. Or maybe it was something originally made for another project, & the creator decided to release for Daz instead. More input on exactly how it can be improved & put to good use, especially by new folks, would really be appreciated! smiley

I don't think anyone is doing it maliciously. As someone else said, if it was a freebie than I think the feedback would be a bit different. But the fact we had to pay for it, I think we just expect more from Daz's QA process.

I haven't loaded it yet but it looks like it might be perfectly functional on a toon figure with cell type shaders

@FastestDogInTheDistrict  Correctives are under Ethereal Goddess Hair>Hidden>Correctives

My view is I can't believe Daz let this through QA and on top of that at that price.  Yes I know that some of us got it for less than $3 if you previously purchased and that would be all well and good if I did more renders using that kind of styling and Im sure some people out there will be able to use it but they have placed the same full price on it that OutofTouch charges which is outrageous to me and to only show the side view makes me think they were intentionally hiding the part in the hair; might not be the case but still....  Charge what the quality is worth.

If it is a new vendor props to them to try to get into that market. I hope they stick with it and will we see future products from them as they improve or find their nitch with a more stylized genre.

As for improvement first fix the part, I shouldn't have to kitbash a new product for something like a skull cap or a full head of hair.  From the side it doesn't look to bad. I can't really decide what is making it look like it does I don't really know enough about hair making to judge that I guess but I think it maybe a combination of textures plus the top of hair looks more segmented then the length and I noticed that on other vendors hair the top doesn't look segmented either.

Edit: To finish what I was writing blush and to add smooth shaded picture.   This will be the last picture from me because they are issuing me a refund,  I have also attached a picture of Razor Hair to show the difference in what i mean by segmented.

I somehow missed this release and didn't notice it until it popped up after putting something in my cart.  I was all excited till I saw the promos.  I usually jump at new hair releases, but not this one.  Yikes.  I kept thinking Colorwerks might improve it but that doesn't seem to be the case.  And that bald spot!

  • davesodaveso Posts: 7,163

i rendered it.. whatever..it looks good enough for me. just looks like thinning hair without the skull cap ... and what isa it about the part? that's its not straight or what? otherwise, if its the jagged of it, 'I see hair like that everyday. the part I dont like is that part that sticks out .. why does that have to be that way?

Much appreciated Daventaki - that's really helpful! smiley

EDIT: Hmm... The "Hidden" seems to be hidden! I have loaded the hair, have it selected, the Parameters tab open on the right-side bar, right-clicking on any of the items there doesn't offer a "show hidden" option I can find (just a hide/unhide check boxes, these don't seem to reveal anything I can see). "Unhide Selected Properties" in any right-click/drop-down menu in any tab hasn't revealed anything yet. I am thinking I'm looking in the wrong place. I can make the bones show (toggle on/off), but I don't see any posing/movement sliders in the tabs so far.

On the top of the parameters tab click the hamburger icon (looks like several horizontal lines) and select "Show Hidden Properties".

Ah! Okay, yep definitely was looking in the wrong place! laugh

I've done that now. If I work my way through each tab & drop-down with "Show Hidden Properties" checked, still no posing seems available, just the usual Translation/Scale/Rotation/etc. I am looking for posing slider bars - is that those aren't included with this hair model and the posing is manipulated by a "Correctives" function? I still have not been able to locate this - "Actor" is there but "Correctives" for the hair does not seem to be present. It's there for the G8 female model under Hidden > Correctives, but it's greyed out, as are all the items under it, and they only seem to be sliders I have installed for the G8 figure, but nothing for the hair.

Let me see if I can find one thats compariable maybe someone who has the hair can post a screen shot.

*Update*  Ok on further inspection of other hairs it looks like its not under actor so maybe I looked at that wrong.

The ones that had it were all in the main list.

Tried one more time and came up with these examples. The first is using TWO copies of the Etheral Goddess Hair and the Goldtassel's Dolly Hair scalp as recommended above with UHT2: Ultimate Color.

I like the style of hair, but would like to seee a better quality model FOR SALE.  As a freebie this would have been acceptable, with a "Keep at it, you'll get there!"

    Anyhoo...

Right. I could never imagine LaurieS doing something like this ... well, imperfect hair.

Wow, I really like that. And some of the newer renders. I like the spiky cut. Now I wish I got it!

I think what's disappointing is that it's a really nice shape but way too hard to work with.

I keep it because I paid a very low price but I honestly don't recommend that hair.

Okay, so I'm not the only one who feels a bit hosed by this product....

I was able to work with the dress, but the hair has to be combined with something else to be usable...
