As a DAZ Original if you have their old Gamer Developer license for DAZ Originals you can use it

It wasn't a Daz Original, though. Not according to the readme that is still online, anyway.

It was. It was a PC+ freebie at one point so it had to be a DAZ Originals (although the book keeping isn't always the best (as we saw again recently with the military tunnel that is not a DO freebie so a while), that's the only reason I have it.

I can't recall - it may have been a freebie while still belonging to the original PAs.

The first two sets were freebies at one point.

Here's a snapshot from 2017, where the first set was not listed as a DO. I recall what Richard is remembering: they were offered here for free but were still owned by the creators.

The first two volume were freebies for their entire duration, but were never DO's nor PC. They were among the first things I ever got here, a couple of weeks after their release, and the rest much later (darn things never went on sale, finally caught them in Fast Grab). The last recorded archive on the WayBack Machine of the freebies is on May 2018, any of the other Poser sets is Jan 2018. I have too much time on my hands...

I believe it was 4th quarter 2009 and here it is: August 15, 2009. I've never seen a DO PC+ freebie that wasn't a buyout by DAZ 3D but I don't keep books on all the times they did them though. I bought a PC+ sub for $29.95 15 Aug 2009 and next thing I know I get the oft asked about Sarfari Starter Pack, Emoti Guy, V4 Base, M4 Base, 3 different products of this Dystopia City (2 LWEO & 1 Poser), among other things as part of the PC+ membership. So it was PC+ but I'm not 100% sure if it was a DO like the Safari pack or the Emoti guy.

The only PC+ items that haven't been freebies I know that aren't listed as DOs are Gumdrops line of characters so I asked them and they said the game developer license does not apply to Gumdrop characters. That's a special case of a 3rd party store being merged into the DAZ Store.

I didn't ask about the Plushies that are now PC+ but they are not listed as DAZ Originals however many of the runtimeDNA grasslands and nature environments are listed as DAZ Originals.

So I guess it is possible for some PAs to have their products listed as PC+ but not be DAZ Originals. If DAZ 3D bought those products out from the PAs, they are DAZ Originals whether or not DAZ 3D lists them that way or not in their database.

The OP should ask the DAZ Help Desk.

  • Yes, I have both Dystopia Blocks 001-010 and 011-020, and they must have been offered as a freebie because I'd have had no interest at the time in buying them. Whether they were DO to be given as a weekly freebie, I don't know.

    Regards,

    Richard

the free ones were free for everyone not just PC+ because Igrabbed them right after Aiko 3 LE who was also free with her sailor suit and the Millennium cat and dog LE first week I used DAZ in July 2009.

the pc annual used to come with a choice of seven free bundles.  vaguely remembers there was a scifi bundle.

I got the first two sets a week apart back in November of 2006. They were both free. I remember thinking the vendors made them free as an incentive to get customers interested enough to pick up the paid-for versions that continued the series.

Team Dystopia also made a few models free (a nifty console comes to mind) on their own website as well.

Edited to add: I broke out an old laptop that had 3D Content Database on it. That was a handy program that grabbed all kinds of info for the user to keep track of their purchases. It was not marked as a PC item and the PAs were listed as the owners, not Daz. Obviously, follow everyone's correct advice to submit a ticket, but I am now confident this was never a Daz freebie, but a PA one.

Cool, so PAs can offer products as freebies in the DAZ Store without them being sold to DAZ. That's good to know.

This was a decade ago or so under different management. I would not draw any conclusions about current policies from this case.
if I recall correctly, Team Dystopia gave those two sets away as free items in their store when they moved to DAZ from renderosity. I bought some sets over there and rest here.

    ciao

    TD

PS: just checked my orders at Renderosity, I bought several of the city blocks over there in November 2005. They opened their DAZ shop some time after that.

Other PAs still have free items in their stores without selling them to DAZ. For example there is Horo's and David Brinnen's Bryce 7.1 Pro - Golden Lighting .

    Link is broken.

I knew of at least one or two DAZ Originals where talked about in the forums as not marked as DAZ Originals but were but I've forgotten what they were or if they were corrected. It's not a big deal though unless you have or want a game developer or interactive license you then have to inquire with DAZ 3D Sales Support to be sure and sometimes they don't know. The good thing is the products like that are so few and far between and often suitable equivalent replacements are available elsewhere free as well.

I actually do have this. I thought it was obsolette and completely gone with the new system through.

Also, if I remember well, this would only apply for DAZ Originals, unfortunately, I have no way to verify if these were actually DAZ Original, since every information vanished when the store was closed.

Would like to point out that both Stonemason and inception have a number of City Blocks that are quite like that too in case you can't contact the other guys.

    https://www.daz3d.com/greeble-city-blocks
    https://www.daz3d.com/future-cityscape-density-blocks

It may only be me, but Greeble City Block is bleak, and feels more industrial, so far during the concepts tryouts, nobody identified the Greeble as city things, but more as industrial complex of some sort.

There's also Greeble City Blocks 2 and 3 (link to bundle here but also available separately: https://www.daz3d.com/greeble-city-blocks-bundle )

They might feel a little less industrial (YMMV and so forth)

And to add to this: https://www.daz3d.com/utopia-cityscape-blocks (also by Stonemason - more utopia than dystopia I'm afraid but if you swap out the greenery surface for something more concrete, and maybe darken the buildings, overcast sky, should be good).

    is Ajax still around?

i noticed the ajax poser 5 shaders are not where they were

  • This thread has been quite informative for me. I was in the process of purchasing all of the Dystopia City Blocks, and at this time I have 6 of the packages; all of which have ten city block models, and 4 of which have the extra model for each. The two I originally got were free, and did not have an extra model. I had four more packages to buy when suddenly they were no longer available anywhere. I have to wonder why the PA decided to pull his store here at DAZ 3D! I wanted all of them, and it seems that now I won't be able to complete my collection.

As much as I thank the people posting in this thread for all the info about what has happened, I am quite disappointed that I cannot get the rest of the product packages. Guess I'll have to make do with what I have.

DAZ has been dumping the old vendors out of the store like crazy lately, even ones that are verifiably still active and producing new products for the current products on other sites.  I bumped up my own spending a while back to clear out the older products that I wanted but hadn't purchased yet, but even so have seen quite a number of items that were on the wishlist vanish before I could get them.

Daz should really let people know they're going to delete items from the store & when.

I know I get pushback from some people here for my stance on this (which I have always found absurd because I have worked as an artists advocate trying to get artists work to be SEEN and not deleted).

It really wouldn't be hard to send an alert out over email to anyone who has the item in their wishlist.

I had a project in mind where I needed Feng's Noodle Shop. Of course, it was gone from the site when I needed it.
  • More than once here, it was the ARTIST that decided to remove items or their whole store. I can think of 2 off the top of my head whose works can still be SEEN (and bought) at other 3D sites.

Now I have no way of knowing whether, in those cases, Artist said, "I'm outta here effective tomorrow" or Daz3D said, "K thx bye, we'll have the store down at changeover" or if it was a mutual, "Daz3D will broker my stuff until Daz Midnight this Friday."

Yeah. Whether it was Daz or the artist, a notice STILL should have gone out.

It's not complicated, it's not hard.

Reminds me why I refuse to accept an appointment or run for office anymore. This isn't something that should even be up for debate.

    Simple stuff.

They should, yes.  Will they ever do it?  Let's be real - in what seems to be becoming a pattern, the last big PA purge happened right before the PA sale, and it would have been ridiculously easy to integrate a "last chance" sale into that promotion.  Instead, those artists just vanished, including some who are still actively producing new products at other stores.

This might be off-topic, but I wonder what happen to the purchased product when it is removed from the store? Can I still download it if I have purchased it, and will it be available in DIM or Daz Central?

  • Yes, if a product is no longer available at the store, it's still available for you to download and shows up in your order history. There may have been exceptions in the past that I'm not aware of, but I definitely have products that are no longer available.

Thanks. Great to know that :D

  • If anyone is still interested, send me a DM... I used to go by the merchant name of "Moebius87" and I was the person who created all 100 Dystopia City Block, along with a few other sci-fi environments and props.

  • Sadly, I can't track down any of these amazing modelers anywhere:

    Ajax
    Billy Home
    Moebius87

I miss their products & wish I could have aforded all their products back when they were still available. Surely all 3 of these artist didn't drop off the face of the planet at the same time...

Please let me know if anybody knows where they have moved to. I would like to complete my Dystopian City Blocks collection, as well as any more Dystiopian Drones or Droids.

But it appears Franco (aka Moebius87) has only visited the forums twice since creating the new account.  What are the odds he'll catch a DM (I assume "direct message") after 10 months?
