Kind of agree. Everyone has different things they look for when it comes to what they find attractive. For me it's face and skin to2/detail. Clothes and hair just add to it.
If you are refering to Virtual_World's Margot, then I am not sure quite about hot, but I was struck by how she looked like a real person. There is something about her that makes the uncanny valley a lot less deep.
Yes, I thought your were talking about Margot too. She's a realistic portrait in particular as to how her face wasn't made short on fat. I like her but she's on a wish list like everything else I buy in the DAZ Store is (almost).
The difference hair can make just boggles my mind.
In the evolutionary scheme, the owner's choice of hair - either as a reflection of the owners appreciation/intelligence, or the obliviousness of owner, thinking it doesn't really matter, is interestingly different from the other 'assets' one might be born with, that really aren't a choice - body shapes, types, eye/hair color, etc.
I believe these characteristics are 'seen' by *most* as being the same, and I'm feeling more certain over time that these two elements of species attraction are decidely not as similar as it may seem. How you present is as important as what you are given to present. Some live at the mercy of their physiques, others are the masters of it.
To the original poster, I also see a certain level of homogeniety (sp?) in both the barrage of new faces that appear the the store each day, and I also notice that the 'face morph packs' that are rendered in clay are almot meaninglessly indistiguishable to me - in contrast with the occasional face that just jumps out at me as being 'wow' for no apparent reason.
My theories as to why these jump out include:
- celebrity, or similar familiarity with a liked or respected figure from anywhere in the viewer's history
- 5th grade girl/boy-friend similarity - sort of forgotten, but oddly familar and 'warmed' by time.
- genetic programming - we're pre-wired to gravitate to a certain genetic match that's evident to our 'gut', but not our intellect?
Others - probably.
Add to this posture, makeup, clothes, etc. and the whole art of self-marketting that makes our species so much fun, and such a mess at the same time :), adds spice and speculation to life.
To aliens or the hungry mountain-lion, we humans have two viewing ports, a food port, sound ports, four appendages of note, etc. I'm sure the subtlety of emotion, make-up, race, gender aren't really as meaningful as they browse the available selection.
I must be alone here in thinking that there's no way I could ever find a Daz character, or any CG character for that matter, "hot". I get the point that it's trying to represent an attractive human being, but I can't look at a CG render or animation and find myself physically attracted to the characters in any sexual way.
Perhaps in some very rare case, it could happen, but the render itself would have to be so incredibly photorealistic and believable that I actually can not tell that it is fake. I don't believe there has ever been a CG character ever that I've actually thought was a real human being for more than just a few seconds. Maybe one or two really high-end Zbrush or Maya characters, but even then I don't' think so... There may have been a few over the years that looked like a photo at first, but most of those were just portraits anyway.
Maybe I'm strange, but once I realize it's CG, my brain instantly shuts down any "emotional" connection to the image and the technical side takes over. I am either impressed by the skill or just wondering how I could do something similar. Especially if the render is NPR, there's no way it could ever become attractive in a sexual manner. Not saying I don't think the renders are great or technically stunning, but I could never really be attracted to the character in a physical sense if they don't look absolutely convincingly human. In some cases where it's obvious the character is intended to be very sexualized, it can be somewhat creepy. Kind of like when you see people who are addicted to plastic surgery attempting to make themselves into living "Barbie" dolls, I get that kind of feeling from certain characters. I'm sure it's just me.

I vasilate on that - I'm certainly impacted by the knowledge that a figure is 'fake'. (won't fool me! look at the hair - CG all the way... :), but I think I am less resistant to allowing myself that emotional connection that you describe - even to a 'fake' figure. Interesting.
But, I'm curious how many people who have this same reaction to CG figures, can be led to deep empathetic responses to good stories perfromed by clearly toon/animated/NPR characters (Shrek, etc.)
Once well-past the uncanney-valley and our natural resistance to being 'fooled', we seem almost happy to laugh at a 2-dimensional bugs-bunny story.
It's fantasy. There are a ton of hot characters, a ton of scary characters, too. If I didn't find them attractive in some way, I doubt I'd have so many. Some, I get because they're so horrifying, but that's another matter. Daveso's complaint of comical endowment is fair; but that can be adjusted.
I am not particularly excited by the polygons myself
but in my minds eyes I can concoct a senario based on them as a flesh and blood person
much like reading a book, the printed words ars not sexy in themselves but what they convey
I don't do the xrated daydreams more romantic story based stuff but seeing an outfit and character, set etc can certainly build an adventure in my head with a person similar fighting a dragon, flying a spaceship etc

Are you male or female? I ask since you say you don't get an 'emotional" connection and with many men, it's more about the visuals then the emotional when it comes to getting excited in that way.

very relevant point. Interestingly even if men are more visually 'affectable' by their very nature (the figure gender counts in DAZ-like stores and the adult visual media industry are obviously telling here), it isn't only visual assessment of women that matters - their status and often survival (in the wild) are directly coorelated by the male's ability to 'size up' a mate as well as the 'alpha' in their tribe, or opposing tribes.
Many a doctoral dissertation on this theme, I'm sure.

Well, if a boy counts as male, I can admit that, as a boy, I had an intense crush on a comic character ... Lana Lang, Superboy's girlfriend.
Edie is one of the few G8 base characters I purchased (actually got the pro bundle) as well as Mabel, Floyd, and Teen Jane (her physique sort of reminds me of Steph4). Yeah, also have Vicky 8 but she was a freebie.
Am I alone in feeling that Victoria 8 is actually not very nice looking? The proportions look wrong to me. She's athletic, but heavily endowed up top. To get that sort of muscle definition, her body fat percentage must be low, which would reduce her bust considerably. How many Olympic athletes are large up top?
OK, I know that was a silly little winge. However I admit that generally I prefer the shape of DS women to those I see in my local area. Many local residents being wider than they are tall, needing to turn sideways to get through a door, fag in hand, pushing a double buggy and shrieking at their other demon spawn, shiny with sweat from the effort of waddling 100 yards, leggings and stretch top unable to meet due to the 6" wide roll of fat hanging out and limp greasy hair completing the look.
I think Daveso is feeling lonely, sitting by his computer, looking at his DAZ girls
we all do it sometimes
DAZ boys in my case
naw ... I was looking at some products, at that other place, and some at DAZ, and realized 98% are beautiful femaels, mostly over endowed in the breat department, but considerably the same. Certain clothes just make these models look hot. It isn;t them exactly, but the package. It is why, I think, I've stated in the past we need to see ther actual mesh, the textures, close up. etc, The clothes change the entire look ... as does hair
That's pretty much the same for human females. If we put on sexy clothes, a push up bra if needed, makeup, do our hair, maybe even use hair extensions, we can go from ordinary to hot in 20 minutes or so lol... Have you ever seen a "makeover" video?
Or is she? Yeah, she's really attractive and sexy, but they all are.
It's the CLOTHES. The right clothes make the attraction, the sexuality, stand out.
And the HAIR. The right hair. And the additives ... jewelry, etc etc.
What ya think?
Doesn't matter if she's wearing a bin bag or not; if you find her hot, then she's hot regardless; clothes can add appeal though for sure.

The Male mind's capacity to construct& maintain a sexual fantasy Based on a Visual ,existed long before CG and even way before "realistic" CG was possible.( remember the original tomb Raider game??)
There is CG character Called "Angelica" that has a huge following on youtube.
A man named "Rouge" developed a prorietary software that enables him to live puppet the Character (body and face), in realtime, for live youtube broadcasts.
"Angelica" is about as "realistic" as the original 1998 Poser4 Female "Possette" and fairly obviously voiced by a man pitched up with software.
No HD morphs,SSS or JCJ's etc.
Despite this, there are many men, ( likely hetero), who pay monthly Patreon fees for nude sessions with "her".

V8 is good. She's a bit different from V7. I like V7 best of all the V-series. She's stylized; but that's normal in 3D-land.
I have recently realized in more detail how it‘s not the product per say that I find attractive, but often the smart intriguing way it‘s packaged that appeals to me. Subliminal advertising is a fact and an art. I thought I was immune to that, but apparently not 100%. Ever have buyer‘s remorse after finding out the product you bought wasn‘t as great as the packaging made it appear? The whole idea behind this advertising is very clever. That was the case with the marlboro man and virginia slims. Smokes stink, but looking wild and independent — or just giving off such airs — appeals to the superficial wannabe part in people. The buyer‘s remorse thing didn‘t set in until people coughed up blood and died of cancer. Better to take a closer look at what one is induced to think or feel before leaping. Caveat emptor: buyer beware!

I love AI Angel, subscribed to that YT channel awhile ago. Funny, every time I watch I wonder why the artist didn't make her more realistic looking. There is so much more that could be done to the model to make it even more believable which I would think would boost the following and get more users to support the patreon page

I disgree. I think she's fine. Once you get too close to a realistic appearance, you end up deeper in Uncanny Valley, and the little imperfections become more noticeable and more disconcerting. And of course, more realism would entail higher quality meshes and textures, which would lead to the need for more powerful hardware. It's important to remember that, while we can do a lot with consumer hardware, it's a long way from the kind of results Hollywood studios can achieve at scale.

I am not particularly excited by the polygons myself
but in my minds eyes I can concoct a senario based on them as a flesh and blood person
much like reading a book, the printed words ars not sexy in themselves but what they convey
I don't do the xrated daydreams more romantic story based stuff but seeing an outfit and character, set etc can certainly build an adventure in my head with a person similar fighting a dragon, flying a spaceship etc
a painting or illustration can do that for me too
Are you male or female?

Lana Lang, Superboy's girlfriend.
...
That's pretty much the same for human females. If we put on sexy clothes, a push up bra if needed, makeup, do our hair, maybe even use hair extensions, we can go from ordinary to hot in 20 minutes or so lol... Have you ever seen a "makeover" video?
Doesn't matter if she's wearing a bin bag or not; if you find her hot, then she's hot regardless; clothes can add appeal though for sure.
