I'm guessing you either have this hair, but if not.... this was the first one that popped into my mind when you said were looking for a ponytail.l https://www.daz3d.com/super-messy-updo-hair-for-genesis-3-and-8

That hair has some nice essentials, but the hairline is totally female. I'm really weird about masculine hairlines... It is quite jarring once you start paying attention. Wish there was a good men's hairline product in the store that I could use to doctor the female and unisex styles to have a proper hairline.

Have you looked at https://www.daz3d.com/colin-hair-for-genesis-3-males, that one might work as a ponytail/bun for Boyd.

I'm sorry to to hear you've been so sick ,its definitely been going around!  Hope you get all the way to well very soon!

I too really like the new skin and hair and have no problem at all with the lack of body hair

  • I'm likin' the new Boyd. Not all men have a lot of body hair, and I know more than a few that either shave/wax all of it off anyway. lol

@zombietaggerung thanks for the suggestion I will test it out.

@icedragonart thanks for the well wishes. Yeah this cold has been really tough. I am still suffering the after effects made worse by the fact I have asthma and i have a lingering cough. I am still a lot better though. Thanks for your nice comments about Boyd.

@dawrinsmishap Thanks, I like him hairless as well but the challenge is the skin isn’t as varied as one of yours... so there is a vast swath of caramel skin with hardly a blemish... Body  hair kind of disguises that some. It is likely that  Boyd is probably hairless though since he has a vat  grown fully customized hot bod..so im going whoever originally ordered it ordered it without hair. I don’t mind too much as fibermesh hair drags my system down and for some reason blonde fiber mesh always looks a little off to me and dark would be odd too given his hair color.

When I try light colored fibre body hair it mostly disappears when rendered so it's like you are getting diminishing returns for effort of setup, monetary outlay, and rendering time: you get longer render times and limited visual impact even for thing on other darker haired people that are very visual like beard stubble. Unless the hair is exceptionally thick like in the armpits & eyebrows you can skip it and people will sort of assume it's there out of habit. Unless you are rendering closeups or something then you may need it.

Blonde fiber mesh also reflects color in odd ways. It’s either a bit too yellow or doesn’t look quite right regardless of what color you make it. In general fiber mesh can look a bit unnatural with certain skins. Owen looks okay with it... but I have to recolored it lighter brown and it’s not all over...just stubble and chest.

Did he have to be called Owen? Errr... okay seems like I have heard that name somewhere before.... wink

  • *snicker* Somewhere....I've heard it somewhere..

You know, I was wondering how you would take to the new character name, LOL

I like Boyd's new skin a lot.  Thumbs up.

Love the winter/snow renders, great work as always.

It is a bit jarring. Now every time they use the name I think which character are they talking about? Oh that one,  sigh ...   I bought the new guy for the desperately needed men’s content.  I rarely use characters out of the box.

I've got the new guy in my cart too.  I hear you on needing more mens content, believe me!  Looking for mens jeans that aren't tapered at the ankles shouldn't be so hard.  The tapered ones don't look great with work boots for some characters.  Oh well, I'm finally getting better at kitbashing so that helps.

Most men where I live are working guys and wear blue jeans that range from cargo to regular fit. Skinny isn’t popular. I think the cast of supernatural would be at home here... flannels, jackets and jeans..  So when I find men’s clothing in the store most of it is really different than what I see on a day to day basis.

Gothic styles really died out in the 80’s and 90’s. I was a goth person so I know..... I can kitbash those outfits though.

I bought it all since I really can use contemporary men’s clothing, it’s actually a relief not to have a barbarian warrior or ranger outfit.. I have to look at the characters later in more detail but some of the jeans look good to me. There is a necklace that looks like it hangs wrong... will have to test it all.

The tricycle pose killed me, so fun! I saw that over at Rendo and was not a fan of the poses, but really, really like that trike. lol

Loved, loved the alien render, and the new Boyd skin is looking good, although it's going to take me some time getting used to seeing him in long hair. :)

Thanks. The tricycle poses actually look kind of hawt in some positions. The set also include a nice backdrop which made it easy to pose your character.  I’m not sure how I feel about poses on tricycles but I tend to enjoy gender bending obvious female sexy stuff from time to time and the poses were just funny. The bike is actually a great model too.

i like the Willis hair but I’m not sure about it hanging in his face all the time. One of the things I like is the expressions of the characters and it is hard to see his face with the shag. But it will be fun to play with for a while.

Boyd is a geeky enius and conforming to military regulations is not his strong suit.

Boyd surpises Owen with a trip to the coast even though it is off-season and everything is closed up!

This seems a simple image, but it posed a lot of trouble for me. I realize its not perfect, such as I should've made Owen's shorts a different color.... but I'm done! HAH

Okay, I only had a few minutes to start looking at the clothing that came with the new character.

Really love the pants and shoes with the Street Style.  I used the v-neck top here, but the pants are great (Didn't care for the belt so I took it off, it didn't go with the shirt anyway).  This is how to handle a transparent pant hole!

I'll put a ticket in later, but the textures are installing wrong and in the base directory rather than wtih the garments. So just be aware if you can't find them. This was pointed out in the official thread.

Boyd with a revised anatomical elements area. Someone in the commons was talking about how to fit clothing over the gens. I had not been previously successful at all. But, now I understand the technique. Hurray for no more ken doll elements areas. I honsetly don't understand why male characters have to go wtihout their elements, and yet such loving detail is paid to designing womens chests. Oh well, yeah I do understand that... But stilll... Kinda odd to me. If you want to make realistic people, their elements area needs more than just a smooth bump.

You did a good job. I haven't tried that yet mainly because I feel the proper fitting clothing, female and male, should be what DAZ Studio is all about, and that means anatomical elements and proper draping, ugh, and do I dare say it, proper drooping, when they are present. I reckon sometime in the future they'll get there.

It's not just anatomical elements, but the proper draping and drooping is one reason the George and any hair you care to name, always look somewhat off to me.

I agree I think charcters should be designed so their entire bodies can fit in the clothing.

Butch was kind enough to provide me some good tips. it took me a couple days though . It is not an intuitive process and you really aren’t fitting it over the elements you are faking it so it looks good for the camera.

At the very least they need to make bulges that have some definition. The current bulges are kind of limited. They sort of look like Superman’s red shorts,

It's all smoke and mirrors, with a bit of jiggery pokery thrown in.

I might also add, the "sharing" is top notch yes

  • I have to say the new upgrade looks great! Been trying to figure out how to do that myself with varying degrees of success. I should have known @Butch had a hand in that somewhere since he's the reason I've been trying to get a little more realistic. I love what he does with a pair of briefs.

Speaking of, what briefs are you using in these more recent images? I'm trying to set up a beach scene with two guys and I need swimsuits. I can't seem to find anything I like in my library. I like the briefs you used in both Owen Upgraded and the new one with Owen and Boyd on the promenade.  I'd be most appreciative of links. Thanks.

Thanks! There is a lack of new swim wear and briefs in the store and for some reason, I always want more especialy more with morphs and adjustment.s

The briefs for Boyd came are actually some of the better ones available. They came wih the Gregori HD character. Lots of adjustments and those great strings which untie: https://www.daz3d.com/ej-gregori-hd-deluxe-pack

Owen is wearing https://www.daz3d.com/michael-7-intimates-for-genesis-3-male-s  with a texture expansion by SF-Design at Rendo which makes them look like swimwear

Both are for genesis 3 male but fit fine!

Roger Miller once wrote a song about me - "King of the Bulge"  wink  and thanks for the nice words blush

Not many briefs are easy to work with.  OOT intimates for G2M work wonderfully,as do ej gregori and I've found the best morph to use is "crotch down". I've only just bought OOT for G8, so no opinion yet.

As I said to Serene, less is more and a well placed light provides imaginative shadows.  Also, if you're only showing the front in your render, don't worry about how weird the profile looks and vice versa.
