Got an unknown command from the persistent connection

My Daz Log is starting to get littered with messages about "Got an unknown command from the persistent connection".  Is this an attack trying to use Daz Studio ports?  How concerned should I be?

Any time.  I can start DS, leave it alone, and then they will start showing up.

Oh thank goodness it is not just me smiley  I have been heavily scripting and causing DS to crash left and right.  I was afraid I screwed it up.  surprise

What mechanism do you use to install with? I cannot think of many reasons for Daz Studio itself to be involved in http-style traffic apart from Connect, whcih I do not use.

I never use Connect, only DIM (or occasionally Content Wizard laugh)

A casual search suggests an SSL/https issue, as alluded to by @pislero.  Given the fact I am not at all sure why (or how?) Daz Studio is sending such http commands at anything I am wondering what is the client and what is the server here.  Apache as the server is mentioned, but that may be a red herring, but does suggest an actual http server (but could be a 'apache kernel' imbedded in anotehr application to facilitate communication).  If it happens every time you start Daz Studio up it suggests you might have one of the options that craete a connection checked in the Startip tab of the Preferences dialog. If it ONLY happens at startup what happens if you disconnect/disbale your internet conenction when you start Daz Studio?

  • Getting the same error here. Not letting me render a single thing... just shuts down. Any word on a fix yet?

The Content Management Service users Internet Protocol on the local machine for communication between PostgreSQL and the Daz applications. Have you checked your firewall logs to see what is happening when those messages occur?

  • Richard HaseltineRichard Haseltine Posts: 102,273

I just tried launching 4.12.1.117 and loadign some content, no such messages in the log for me. What security software are you all using? I have some variety of Norton Security and Malwarebytes Pro.

  • Can't imagine it's Malware, the timing is completely synced with the last DAZ update. This morning I was rendering fine, installed the update from DIM then nothing rendered at all. It's always possible that it's nothing to do wth the update but that'd be a pretty huge coincidence if that was the case

I have Norton 360.  Their firewall log does not mention anything, so I think you are right that this is not an external threat.

I am able to render, though I did end up reinstalling my NVIDIA drivers, so that might have been the difference.  Have you tried doing a CLEAN INSTALL of your graphics drivers?

Yes, it would us e the lo0/loopback/localhost/127.0.0.1 address/link which is a hard/software shortcut for internal communication, but not knowing the whys and wherefores of that communication I wonder about the <head> <h1> amd <p> commands/statements being sent.

Ok, but ... what is/was Daz Studio doing that had a misconfigured server respond in such a way?  Sorry to press the point and I know you are 'just the messenger', but I get twitchy when strange things happen!

    We are told

A service that should have been automatically (re)started when the server that provides said service was restarted, was not - thus "server configuration." When a client (i.e., Daz Studio) sends a request (e.g., Daz Connect - poll for updates) to a server and the service that would typically provide the response is not running, an error is produced and passed back to the client. In this case the error was 400 Bad Request, which loosely translates to "I don't know how to do the thing you just requested of me" (or "the service you just attempted to retrieve data from is not running").

That's good for me as I do not use Connect (and have so far as I know turned off/de-activated all such options that suggest a connection within Daz Studio), but RiverSoftArt to whom it happened also says he does not use Connect, but he got the problem. Thank you for the more in-depth response.

The reference was only used as an example (e.g),  not a definitive fact (i.e).

That raises my curiosity bump again .... so what IS Daz Studio doing 'calling home' if not for Connect?  It's a blithe assumption on my part but I think RiverSoftArt would know enough to mention "and oh, by the way, I was trying to connect to DAZ's home page/my account/etc., from within Daz studio at the time ..."

There is an update-check, though it may have been disabled. There's an opt-in product improvement programme which  will send anonymised usage data back. It's possible to open product read-mes in the build-in browser. There may welll be other non-Connect things that access the Daz servers.
