Recent Renders From The Art Studio Forum

It was quite some time before I found the Art Studio section, and there are SO many talented artists over there, I decided I would give you a personal tour from quite a few of those threads (some of which are massive.) This is with the hope that if you didn't know about that forum, this will be a "hello we're over here!" wake up call. BTW, to visit Art Studio, you have to go to the top of the page, then Community > Forums and click that, go down the page to Art Studio.
You'll also find artists who specialize in Bryce, Vue, Carrara, and other programs who often answer questions and help folks learn. In addition to showing your art, the Art Studio is for you to evolve, to learn.
The artists would probably also appreciate some comments so they know you popped in! If you see some others you like from Art Studio, feel free to add to the list. I only posted ONE thing from each thread, and that was sure hard! :)

Nice list Novica. Thanks for taking the time to collate.
Thanks for pointing this out...I rarely venture outside of "Commons" and "Carrara Discussion". I'll have to look into the "Art Studio" more often.
Oh, it was fun! I originally had just planned on going through the last ten threads to see what folks were doing, then I just kept going like the Energizer Rabbit :) Picking one thing from each thread was hard though- and your thread was one of them Szark! I really like that so many of the artists there use Carrara, Vue, Bryce, in addition to DAZ Studio.
I used to spend a lot of time looking at other images but now that time is much more limited I find dA is the only place I look.
And I rarely look over there unless it's to follow a link. Good stuff there, but I don't even have time to go through the gallery here, I did to begin with but with the lack of moderation it was horrid. Once I got out of the habit, I just never went back. It also took way too long for the gallery images to come up, and I had very fast DSL, now I pay for the equivalent of commercial cable so it would probably be faster but the lack of time factor is still there.
My latest find, from Storypilot:
The lighting on this makes me drool.
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/29444/P75/#616290
....yeah I think I have a thread there myself. Haven't updated it in a while as the RL situation became rather dire. Crikey, haven't even done much 3D work in the last several months due to the RL distractions.
I also tend to go to DA more (member of several 3D groups there).
I don't use the Gallery here as I'm not fond of how it was set up, I prefer how the old ones were organised. Post a pic and it ends up getting buried rather quickly. The only time I go there is if someone (usually TJohn) posts a link to a new work that was submitted.
tjohn's gallery is definitely worth a look :)
Here's another one with wonderful lighting that dog lovers will adore. SereneNight just posted it and if you are a Pug lover (or just an all around animal lover) you'll grin when you see this one. Plus, it's another one with great lighting.

thank you for posting a link to my renders
happy you like it :-)
You know I do :) With all the abstracts you have done, it kept me busy playing my version of the ink-blot test and seeing so many interesting possibilities!
So basically the threads in the art forum are a kinda "look at my work" thread with finals and WIP images also, correct? Just trying to understand the use and difference between there and the DAZ galleries in case I wanted to start one..
BTW thanks for the links, some really nice stuff I hadn't seen before.
What the forum team were doing, before they gave us the new Galleries, was to encourage people to post "portfolio" threads in the Art Studio forum.
And they are still doing it, even though we have proper galleries now.
The Old forum Art Studio Forum did have many render threads in it, but often they were themed threads, rather than "portfolio" threads, Like the Car render thread that s still going strong.
The Render threads are a great idea still, especially for New Users who don't feel confident enough to start an actual gallery.
When chohole suggested I start one I thought it was a good place the share things which was the main reason for me doing so. I can't help a lot but I try to answer q's that come along. Plus I put a few links on the first post to hopefully some helpful info.

Reply:
The obvious difference between the gallery and a forum is the rapid exchange/ communicating back and forth where more people find the posts with ease. Scrolling through the front page of the Art Studio forum and visiting the threads quickly IS done with ease. Try that with the gallery. Artists who post in the Art Studio obviously know about the existence of the Gallery (and we also know about the "in violation of TOS" first page renders due the setup of delayed moderation) and we're extremely smart people who obviously choose to post in an easy to surf-through section that VERY RARELY needs images pulled.
This is just my opinion, but your statement came across that artists in the Art Studio are mis-behaved children who need a "tsk-tsk" because we're not in the "PROPER galleries."
Also, as can be seen with the linked artwork above, the Art Studio is loaded with extremely talented, CONFIDENT artists- focusing on it as a place to go for those lacking confidence should ALSO be coupled with "and for talented artists seeking an active, supportive forum."
FSMCDesigns, we'd love to have you join us. :)
Here's my reply to that- you can have WIP's, you don't have to- you can just have finished renders if you want to do that. You might also want to start a thread with a theme like Chohole mentioned, or a story. What I like about the Art Studio thread is you can somewhat blog your way through your process too, so people can see if there's something you could be doing differently- and you might not know to ask. People are so helpful over there- and encouraging.

let me add you will get more looks in the art forum then in DS Gallery - I think the best got like 60
nothing wrong with the Gallery - just not a lot of help if you need it .
I think a lot of the Gallery renders are super - just don't get the looks .
.
I can only speak for myself, but I don't use DAZ galleries. My chosen place has been Facebook up until now, and I do have a small thread in Art Studio.
I think it is great that DAZ 3D allows different methods for those who like conversation with their art, and the gallery style to co-exist.
What the forum team were doing, before they gave us the new Galleries, was to encourage people to post "portfolio" threads in the Art Studio forum.

Many of us like to post our work on the forums in order to get a response, and maybe have a conversation about it. It's the only socializing some of us have. I don't know why DAZ would discourage this as it sells their products. I, for one, spend way to much money at DAZ and I am certain that this wouldn't be the case if I did not interact on the forums with other members. Doing Art is a lonely business, and being able to talk to other 3D artists about our work sometimes can make it all feel worthwhile. I find this interaction very enjoyable and it often puts me in such a good mood that I spend even more money at DAZ.
It seems to me, if someone creates a thread on the Art Studio they are inviting comments, conversation and questions about how they have done certain things. When I look at peoples renders in the Gallery, I just click if I like them or make a comment and they may say "thanks." That's OK too. But it isn't the same thing.
The "Welcome to the Art Studio" statement is a bit vague I think, and, if it is intended for mainly new users, it would help if this were stated clearly.
Obviously people are misinterpreting my comments badly. I was just trying to answer a series of questions that were asked. Maybe I should have amplified each of my various statements to make them clearer.
The push to get People to use the Art Studio forum was very successful, when the Forum description was changed some few years ago to make it more obvious what the forum could be used for.
No way was I saying that it was only for New Users, just that it was a great place for New Users to start posting their images for comments and C&C if they don't feel confident enough to create an actual gallery.
As for themed threads we had some great ones in the old forum Art Studio forum. They can be real fun, to see the different ways people can interpret a theme.
I honestly don't see anything negative in Chohole's earlier comment regarding the Art Studio vs. the Galleries. I think the curse of the written word not conveying proper tone and emphasis on wording has caused the wrong impression. It would be my guess that Chohole is actually supportive of the Art Studio, rather than against it or demeaning toward the forum.
I can read the earlier statement in a number of ways just by changing the inflection that I read, but I choose to see it in the positive version. Gladly, she has explained her meaning in the post just prior to this one.
To me, the Art Studio is indeed a fantastic place to share WIP's, portfolios of work and great themes of artwork. The Galleries are not something I frequently view, mostly because the influx of images submitted makes it difficult to see all of it in a sitting. And like Cho said, new users will certainly benefit from using Art Studio more than using the Galleries because of the active participation of forum members critiquing, encouraging, and sharing their techniques. Novica has done a wonderful job with her long running thread and several new threads, including this one, in collecting some of the best this forum has to offer and presenting it in an easy to follow single location. Her product reviews are really fun to read and something I look forward to seeing (especially when one of my products is mentioned :) )
I really hope the miscommunication has been resolved here. No one is intentionally putting down the contributions to this forum, at least not as I can see.
It's always easy to render with your items Slosh :) Happy to share the results.
I do look at the Art Studio render threads (there are several I follow regularly and others I pop into if someone points me there from another thread) - I almost never go into the Gallery because:
(a) I can't even get into them with Internet Explorer, don't know why
(b) I can't be bothered to go in through Google Chrome because the response in the Gallery is so slow when I get there
Plus if I wanted to post anything I'd have to log off DAZ in IE and log on in Chrome, which is an annoyance.
So although I'm not a New User I still appreciate the (much-easier-for-me-to-use) Art Studio postings - and I agree with Szark, Novica and the others who posted here since that the Art Studio method allows feedback and questions which often raise useful points
Thank you Novica for including one of my renders in your list and highlighting such wonderful artwork. Compiling the list could not have been easy (especially the part about limiting yourself to 1 per artist). :)
I use both the Art Studio and the gallery, and I encourage others to give both a try, though I know some prefer one or the other.
The gallery I used for finished works that I want to show to others. The Art Studio I use primarily for WIPs, discussion, experimentation, quickie renders, etc.
That's odd...what version of IE do you use?
I think that's a fair point. Of course there's no rule that says "your render must be this good to be included in the gallery," and there are plenty of new users who have posted to the gallery, but I know some people (new users and not-so-new users) are more comfortable with posting to a forum.
Speaking for myself, I tend to only put my best work in the gallery (well, the ones I personally consider to be my best work, anyway) and use the Art Studio and other forum threads for everything else. And that works for me, though I certainly don't expect everyone to do the same. :)
Edited to add: I'm not sure I conveyed what I was trying to express...no matter how good you are (or how confident you are), I recommend using the gallery for any renders you'd like to display. The Art Studio is a great place for renders you want to discuss or get feedback on. And if you prefer to use either place for both purposes, or if you have different ideas in mind for your gallery and/or render thread, then go for it, as long as you stick to TOS. :)
That's odd...what version of IE do you use?
Interesting, I just tried going into the Gallery again and actually got in, though the little circle ran round for over a minute before I could see anything. I'm on IE9 and there was an update recently, so maybe that fixed whatever didn't agree with the Gallery. I still can't get popups to show from the product pages either on IE9 - I skip to Chrome for those (don't bother to log in for that).
So it seems that on the latest IE9 update I can get in, but it's just as slow as Chrome for me.
Thank you Novica for including my picture in your list and for going to the generous effort of putting the list together. :)
I would just echo what others have said, with my own little spin added: Individual artist's Galleries are clean and uniform, much like in the real world; the art studio threads are free form and open to interpretation. When I was making my thread there, I thought for a bit and decided to call it a "Pizza Kitchen". I like pizza, and sometimes, in between posting renders, I talk about or show pictures of pizzas i've made, and maybe post a recipe just for fun. And I liked the idea of calling the thread a 'kitchen' because I hoped it gave the idea of being in an imaginary kitchen, a warm place with friendly conversation where a person could get an inside look at things cooking, hehe. :cheese:
Like Scott and others said, the Galleries are great for displaying the finished work in a polished environment. The Art Studio feels like a more interactive and varied place, and is meanwhile a slight step away from the hubbub of the Commons, and I really like that both exist. (The Galleries could definitely use better browsing features, but that's a whole other thing.)
Same here. Chrome is very slow. They need to fix that, it's been ages and definitely not the first time it's been mentioned- I've said that several times (about getting the little spinning dial that goes on forever.) It's not always easy for webmasters to make pages browser compatible, even though the html programs all have the ability to test the browsers.
Storypilot and Ksimet2012- oh it was fun! And yes, it did take most the day to go through the threads but what cool renders. Always delightful when I pop in to yours.
