Hisashi is NOT a female

manekiNekomanekiNeko Posts: 1,414

i can't believe his name doesn't even appear 1x in the forum - not thru the search, not even with google! was nobody else ever annoyed with this?

https://www.daz3d.com/hisashi-hd-for-genesis-8-male is a male. and not the androgynous kpop type of Asian guy, rather the burly type you'd rather not mess with, who's wearing a dark suit and maybe a flashy shirt *cough*....

nonetheless, in the DS smart content panel, he appears under people/FEMALE.

i tried to look/change the metadata, but i don't find the right place or how in the little panel that opens... and anyways, user data and smart database cleaning... this should be corrected in the original product.

it's annoying, because i usually just click on people/male to find a character to play with, and i almost always forget that i actually purchased this guy...

so, Belladonna (the vendor), could you PLEASE change this and make a product update for DIM? this would be very appreciated.

ah ok, i didn't know support was also the place to ask for this kind of things... i like that at rendo f.ex you can msg vendors directly, but here you can't.

    thx Fixmypcmike ^^

btw.. not the 1st time i have to smile at your nick... i have a buddy here who could be called just like you.. his name's Mike, and he must be so sick of all the people asking him to fix their pc cuz he's the wiz around here  (and Mike is less common in switzerland than in the US/UK ... lol XDDD)

    EDIT: ticket sent!

Daz handles customer support here, that's part of the agreement they have with vendors.

And AFAIK metadata are provided by Daz, not the vendor directly, so Daz support would be the ones who can correct that anyway.

Yep Hasashi (久志) is definately a masculine name. Someone pressed the wrong button at DAZ and screwed up the smart content categorisation. Not the end of the world.

sure, the name is pretty clear anyways.. what's funny is that he's one of the less possibly androgynous Asian males out there XD.
ah, it's not the end of the world, agreed. but it's a pain when you have a quite big batch of guys so you don't really realize one is "missing", never use females so you never click on that submenu... and you realize you bought a figure that always gets forgotten ~

Dasan shows up categorized as Female, too, and he is a Daz Original character. I reported it, but it hasn't been fixed. It is nearly impossible to get QA to fix metadata errors these days, judging from the state of my bug reports.

I know its a pain and it should be properly fixed by Daz but is it not easy to edit where it is?  I just right click on the icon (for example Dasan 8) clear the current categories (button on bottom left) and then place him in the category I want him in.  Am I messing up by doing this?

No, you are not messing up, and Daz Studio will add the character to the category you assigned, but it will not remove if from the vendor assigned catergory, even though you told it to. It will act like it is going to remove it. No error message is displayed. but next time you check, it is still in the Female category. If your experience is different, I'm interested in how you are installing and whether you ever log into Daz Studio.

You can't go by the name.  Nikita is a diminuitive of Nicholas in Russian, but at least since the movie "La Femme Nikita", it's been considered a woman's name in many Western countries because to us it sounds feminine.  Russians find that weird.

Well I'll be a sucker! I never realized that but yep you are correct.  I don't use Smart Content that much so I didn't ever realize it was now in both!

  • They're getting sloppy, plain & simple. https://www.daz3d.com/reign-for-genesis-8-female <---character doesn't appear anywhere in smart content after installing via DIM.

  • memcneil70memcneil70 Posts: 4,280

What I have been finding, is I have to install within Daz Studio itself, after installing through DIM, as the icon is greyed out and waiting in limbo, for too many items.

Besides characters, clothing and accessories are misassigned as well.

Thanks to Slosh, I became comfortable with building metadata for really old files, but barbult is right, Daz assigned invalid categories can't be fixed by us. You can only add the correct one for yourself. Hence I file a lot of reports to Daz Tech folks.

I was filling out a form yesterday and I needed to select my gender from the dropdown menu. Choices were Male, Female, Other, and Undisclosed. So I wouldn't make any assumptions about the metadata being incorrect. :-)

I manually organize my G8m and g8f folder since I use root directories to navigate the people folders. I'd simply move him to where he needs to go.

oh i don't mind Hisashi being in the female category per say, i'm not so narrow.minded - what i DO mind is him NOT being in the male category because i keep "overseeing" him. so if what you say works out, i'll try assigning him myself. guess i'm not that daft (well i'll see lol). should be ok then... at least until a DS update or sth

haha.. yeah true, at least IRL. i know best... and i even had a surprise lately with a DS F2M figure refusing the "normally assigned" poses too, preferring the new gender's. so onscreen too ^^.

so i don't care what Hisashi identifies as, or what they do in their private time - as long as i can find them under my smart submenu "male" where i pick all my dolls from ^^

Sorry, I meant to say root directories. I manually organize the g8M folder, removing all vanity folders, keeping the characters in their folders by name, I also manually organizethe outfits by type (daily wear, formal, underthings etc) and poses by type so I can find stuff easier. I just have too much to let nature take its place in there.   So whether a pa makes a goof and daz puts a hair in the female folder or a character in a folder that is wrong, I just dump it where I think it should be. I only do that with the G8M and to a small extent G8F.

I also am fairly strict with the poses. I combine poses where the PA puts the female half in the female folder and male half in the male folder. I find this super annoying, so I undo that and put them all in the same folder. I also tend to take poses out of the generic G8 folder and put them in the male folder. Since I primarily use male figures, I don't want to go in two other places to find the poses and their counterparts. I put all couples poses in the couples folder, all combat poses in the appropriate combat folder (combat with guns, wrestling, superhero etc).  I also when I have the time, put the mirrors in a sub folder. nothing I hate more, than to have 4 poses of the same pose, because the mirriors are dumped in the same folder. It just makes the product hard to use.

hmm.. i never find my stuff very quick unless it's smart content (so i tend meanwhile to neglect everything that's isn't smart...), having also my fair share of daz's, rendo's, other shops' and freebie content. i use the content panel too quite a lot, but i waste time with the search function when PAs stick the stuff undere their name instead of the product - i might remember what a prop is called or what type of thing i'm searching for but not always who made it...
because i don't trust the stability of the categorizing function - i have read many posts where, a user spend an eerie amount of time organizing everything to their needs.. and then it got wiped out for some reason or another - i never spent time doing this, while i actually find it very useful per say. just not gonna spend time doing this instead of drawing (=having fun) to risk to lose everything...
omg.. putting all poses together out of their folder would srsly stress me out - even if it's possibly easier to use - it's just against my slight ocd-ish way to look at things. like, neatly in their original "wrap", lol. doesn't mean i don't cuss every time things are not logical in the PA's way of ordering stuff or i just can't find something for any reason XDD. i just gave up, with the horrendous amount of items i have, trying to not let everything as i got it - nature, as you say ~
but i still think your method of arranging things suiting your need is excellent, paradoxally. >_<

I test the poses when I get them, to see if there is anything I want to genderbend.  So at the same time, it is easy enough to place them in their correct folder, or uninstall them. I have enough filler poses.

It isn't so hard, when you do it as you go along.

yup, exactly... if i was just starting with DS, or had the wish to reinstall everything from scratch (which i haven't!), i might even have considered ordering stuff how i want - maybe categorization can even be saved somewhere in case it's messed up by updates or bugs - but now? not going thru +2000 items only for daz, not counting other shops' stuff and all the freebies (those are often wildly ordered). so the stuff that is easiest to order... is actually daz's - and that's exactly the stuff that is already easy to find thru smart panel and/or rigid folder structure.

what i really wish is that daz sticks metatdata for all the products backwards, old stuff included - WITH THUMBS that don't keep disappearing - and gets rid of the "lost items" (???) category once & for all.
and also that rendo, as the biggest shop next to daz, even if it was primarily aimed at poser users, starts making metadata for daz products obligatory, and this backwards too, by every single PA or support when the PA isn't available... ok, this wouldn't stop people to put items in the wrong category tho, like here, lol ^^

I seem to have managed to move him from female to male by right-clicking the product icon and doing "Edit Metadata". I then went to the assets tab, selected the Hasashi character .duf and changed the Compatibiity to "/Genesis 8/Male" and the Categories to "/Default/Figures/People/Male/Real World" then clicking "Accept". He no longer appears in the "Female" list for me.

Of course this will be wiped out if I have to reinstall (unless of course Daz fixes the metadata first)

  • short term fix.. go to the girl folder where the character is erroneously placed.
find boy click browse to file location  --- two options .. one brave, one safe and slow.
either copy all the boy files .. duf, png, tooltip or cut them.
    ---
go to the boy folder.. click on an item browse to file location and paste the three items you copied or cut.
    refresh folder.
if you copied you can go remove them from the source folder.
    ---
the duf file still accesses the installed locations. so your figure is now with the rest of the boys...
    ---
I stuck a boy in the girls folder .. and then loaded it from there

It is annoying, but to change metadata or smartcontent categorization and see results you need do the change into content db editor, save the metadata and then reimport metadata for this product. In other case, it doesn't matter how many times you change the categorization, this isn't take into account.

thanks everyone for all the infos about how to change metadata - i had only played with it years ago but i gave up, so i wasn't even sure what to do by myself so i wouldn't mess it up even more.

meanwhile support said that they would give this further to the bug team, so i'll wait a bit more in case this get fixed for real officially (so it sticks even when user data is wiped), otherwise i'll do as y'all mentioned above ^^

Sorry, I meant to say root directories. ... snip ...

I thought you may have done .. a root directory is the base, or top-most directory in a file system structure. It will also be used for the 'anchor point' for things such as DS content, each of your entries in Content Libraries in the Content Directory Manager could be deemed to be a root directory (but I'd be aa little averse to that usage from a strictly pedantic point of view).  In *nix systems it is the / directory, under which all other file systems exist. In Windows, it would the the equivalent location, but each logical drive (C:, D:, etc.,) has one - C:\, D:\, and so on (yes, the slashes are different, forward for *nix, backward for DOS/Windows).
