I returned one item at Rendo, which I bought without looking at the description enough which said "Poser only DOES NOT WORK IN DAZ" and got it refunded without any problems whatsoever - thanks to Biscuits for being such a nice person - and immediately spent the money on another product by that PA...
I also only returned one item at DAZ - I think - for it being on sale a day after I bought it.
So the return policy has no influence on my shopping habits.
For clothes and figures I often prefer to shop at Rendo, due to the option to really see undress morphs and the full textured of figures (when provided by the PA) which seems less important for many people shopping here in DAZland, it seems... made me come up with some interesting opinions about what kind of people are shopping in the different shops and their interests
The main artist I would want to see here would be santuziy78 at Rendo. He/she is by far the best of the enviroment/prop artists at Rendo, and that stuff would fit in nicely here. Many of the other environment vendors over there I am not so keen on the quality of the work. Too many sharp corners, multiple objects combined into one prop, and many different textures crammed onto one map making re-texturing difficult as well as looking poor in close up. I get the feeling for many of these types of vendors, importing their product from their modeller of choice into DS and/or Poser was a minor part of their workflow.
Unlike some of the people here I use Smart Content a lot, so to have that set up is a big advantage of products sold by DAZ. I am aware Smart Content has its downsides, but the upsides in terms of time saved far outstrip those.
Regarding shopping over there, I dislike the fact that discounts never stack, and vouchers are near useless as few vendors accept them. Whilst their base prices might be a bit lower than here, the far higher percentage discounts available here (particularly recently) mean that this is the cheapest place to shop IMHO. My spending here is at least 20 to 1 compared to other stores.
Yeh, that is great.
Hypothetically, how long would that last in a monopoly?
I agree, generally it is more expensive to shop at Rendo.
The only reason I buy much less at Renderosity though, is the return policy. Regardless of cost, if it's a hastle to return, it makes me reluctant to spend. I tend to purchase items elsewhere that I can't find a close enough match at Daz (or be arsed making it myself).
I never had an issue purchasing from some of the PAs, and agree some looks poor. The issues you cite (objects combined), had me returning an item to Daz and blacklisting the PA. I have a list of PAs i wont buy from; there are five on it.
Rhiannon and The Row House - I love their products.
Blue Tree Studio? Really? Everything I see from this artist is super low quality. But maybe ok for computer games
I would like to see spdskool (poses) here and ShaaraMuse3D.
VanishingPoint, Modjo, poweage, pamawo and TrueForm would be also very welcome.
Pamawo is here as Ansiko https://www.daz3d.com/ansiko .
And so is Powerage https://www.daz3d.com/powerage .
interesting, powerage seems to publish most interesting projects on rendo, than on daz
Even if every artist mentioned in this thread started publishing here it wouldn't be a monopoly. I truly doubt even a company with ten times the resources would be able to keep artists from going elsewhere for one reason or another. There's a reason that artists are stereotyped as being temperamental. And if there weren't another market to go to, they'd make one. I seem to recall that being a factor in HiveWire's creation.
Well said.
Also there is not some static number of people who
can model Daz/poser/Iclone content and some of us are not even
selling to the pubilc..... at this time.
I recently switched my content development pipeline from creating clothing for
the genesis bases to the Reallusion CC3 base figures.
The former Poser clothing artist "Xurge3D" is a now Major Content artist in the Reallusion MarketPlace.
Content creators ,in this small market, will make brokering contracts based on thier personal preferences
and many other factors that will preclude Daz or any other seller from ever having anything near a "Monopoly"
I used to be fearful, then I bought this product: https://www.daz3d.com/content-package-assist I use it to install products from vendors outside of daz into a separate directory on my computer. @Novica's art thread has great instructions if the ones with the product are insufficient. If you get the product and need me to find Novica's instructions, I can dig them out.
Dzheng. We need more male clothing makers here.
Not to mention all their "interesting" stuff over on CGBytes/Renderotica...
What? That sounds crazy...
None. I want them to be wherever they feel happiest.
To be fair though, Angel Wings specializes in child characters, so it makes sense DAZ would be more cautious with her products.
That would be another reason not to have certain creators, namely character creators selling at DAZ. they are way to strict and PC when it comes to nudity and other areas dealing with sexuality. When it comes to characters, the skin is 50% of the product and I need to see all of the product to make an informed purchase. I only buy characters from here when they are steeply discounted and I have vendors at Renderosity that I don't purchase from because they don't have any nude promos of their product when they can out of principle. If anything though, this has helped improve my photoshop skills since i have needed to edit plenty of skins AFTER purchasing because I couldn't see what i was getting
It's in the References section on the first page of my thread(s) :) Here it is.
@Worlds_Edge
I really should give it a shot coz I only recently found out about the alternative sites and have already set up a wish list over there... it's harder to click purchase over there though coz of the installation fears as well as just basic unfamiliarity (does it work on DS? Does it work on Mac? Return policy etc)... but I won't get over these until I at least try! Thanks so much for the advice, I will go check it out!
@DMax With the Content Package Assist, its SUPER easy. And you can always PM me as you do it and I'll take you through any questions if the tutorial gets you confused. One thing I would suggest, is opening two windows and dragging the image from your purchased list directly into the folder in Explorer, so when you use Content Package Assist you'll have an easy to grab image to put in the image box :)
If it doesn't say tested in Daz Studio or mention Daz at all, simply avoid it. There's so many products over there which are Daz incorporated, you'll have more than enough to choose from :) Many vendors from here are over there. And think about going Prime, IMO it's worth it.
I was going to make a huge purchase during the recent summer sale (50% stacked with my first 35% discount was great) but some members told me to wait for the bigger Nov sales... so I put it off :) ... I am going to receive my very first PC next week so I will be able to consider CPA!
ps. good grief your computer specs look awesome!!!
I only buy the products that specifically say that they work on Daz. So far, I have not had any problems using the package assist to install those products. I do install them to a different drive (external) so that if anything messes up, it's not a big problem. Novica just commented above this post and provided a link to her tutorial. Take a look at it. The only draw back to buying from other sites is lack of "smart content." I know many people don't use that, but I personally like it.
I have purchased and sold a lot of stuff at Renderotica, I use PayPal for my transactions and the download page is pretty straight forward. no need to be afraid of using them
I have no problem buying stuff at redenerosity either. Been a prime member there for like 5 years. lots of great artist and content to buy there.
And personally for as seeing those Pa's coming to daz. I am like Cybersox I rather they don't move to daz. competition is good for sales motivations, and innovation of new content to be develop. Could you see you see 3feetwolf selling Real Gens for genesis 8 at daz...lol with the daz TOS and lack of Adult content controls he could not even show case his naughty bits promos for his products.
I don't think I said that... However, there are things that I think Rendo does better (like full body previews, a better sxearch system, not dropping the pages and readmes for older products when discontinued) and things Rendo doesn't do as well (customer service, managing sales and especially how they run Prime compared to the sleek machine that is the PC+,) but both companies have their place and their purpose, so to each their own. As noted above, though, my purchases really do go two DAZ products for every one Renderosity product, so...
I don't have a MAC, but I did a tutorial on how to install non-DAZ content a while a ago. https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/927004/#Comment_927004
It won't add the item to Smart Content, though.
I used to use Content Package Assist all the time, but then Content Wizard came out and since I like to use Smart Content, I haven't touched it since.
