She's a custom character Mattymanx made for himself. She's not for sale.

Too bad.  He should be selling the character.  Putting stuff in promo images that people can't buy only frustrates shoppers.

it's actually very commonplace to do that in the DAZ store

likely the other frequently used bespoke characters by other artists just didn't appeal to you cheeky

  • FauvistFauvist Posts: 2,152

They do appeal to me.  The bespoke characters are often better than the actual product being sold.  After a while I just stop clicking on some vendors products because I know it's all window dressing for some commonplace product.

Try to dial your own unique characters, you may find that many of them are just as good as those made by the PAs.  And there are millions of different ones to choose from.

It's very possible he used parts from other commercial characters which would be a legit reason why they can't sell it. Makes perfect sense to want your promos to stand out and what better way than having a unique character in them, doesn't frustrate me at all. In all my years being here i have only twice wanted to get a character I saw in a promo. I usually just create my own and this plugin is perfect for that https://www.daz3d.com/simtenero-randomizer

May is the muse behind all creations by @Mattymanx  He'll never give her up.  And yeah, she's a combination of characters, morphs and sugar and spice.  He's discussed her before and there have been a lot of variations over the years.

  • FauvistFauvist Posts: 2,152

Okay, thanks for telling me the character isn't for sale anywhere.  I can duplicate it myself easily enough.

or morphs transferred from other figures. given that they also have a similar character in the gen 3 and 2 eras its very possible that it might have commercial character morphs from other generations at which point thres not just a laundry list of reqirements completely unsharabe.

My favorite gen 3 character to use was a manual transfer of a gen 2 character that was 60% ninive but also then included some transfered david 5. absolutely imposible to share in any form you can't even really share a "recipe"

  • WendyLuvsCatzWendyLuvsCatz Posts: 38,618

yeah my Jaguarella character  is based largely off of V4 cat head genX'd

I have a V4 version of her and every generation since but my G8 ones have auto follow issues because were made using clones

I buy a lot of different characters, but I always customize them after I get them. I rarely leave them as is, unless I want a quick render. The attached is a whole lot of different characters and morphs. Maybe I'm weird, but I find it fun to create my own characters ;).

Nope, you're not crazy at all. Unless that makes two of us who find it fun, and I'm sure we're not alone. wink I can think of only one character I ever used as is and that was Ragnar for Gianni 7. I find it quite enjoyable creating figures to achieve as close a likeness of my characters as possible.

I don't create just pretty people either. I do more "average" types too because, well, Daz doesn't. LOL  I think it's fun *shrug*

No they shouldn't, unless they want to.

We don't have the right to expect everything in renders be available. They always use that character for their promos.

Makes sense to me; I'm always thinking, why the hell do I want to render "your" vision.

I buy products because I'm a collector; I might as well admit that. surprise I tweak endlessly because it's fun.

I even do the occasionaly render because otherwise, I'd have to admit about being a collector...

I almost never render human characters, mostly elves, and the few elves that people sell compared to the millions of humans I rarely agree with how they look, so I change el mix em together, use skin from one, eyes from another my own view of ears that I can do for the moment until I learn how to model and make my own ear morphs. I have used very few characters without changing them at least a little. So yeah probably pretty common to just make  your own characters, which is why I rarely use some of the characters I buy that a certain PA makes, because you can't just change the characters face morphs easily, and he refuses to make separate head and body morphs, or at least I think I remember him telling me that he wouldn't because his vision of the character trumped mine because he made it or something like that (been a while)

I don't see anything wrong with asking to identify a character. It could be a character you missed or is in your wishlist but the promo render shows it in a different way that looks more appealing to you. At least finding out its availability helps you decide to buy the character or try to morph your own version if its unavailable.

I think I have made at least three character presets based on characters I've seen on promos, though they're my own takes and not exact copies. Two of the characters were for sale, but one was G3F which I don't use and the other looked like she could be made with what I own.

Asking about a character you see and like is perfectly fine. Where the problem comes in is demanding that the PA sell their own creation, especially when it's one that is used as their signature in their promos like the one in question here. It's entirely up to them wether they want to sell their creation or not.

Sure, there's no reason not to ask, as long as you're prepared for the answers you may get.   In the case of May, I couldn't see myself using the character, just because she's so strongly a part of Mattymanx's work.  I kind of feel similarly about celebrity characters, too.  They're cool, and all, but I'd find it really weird to set up and render a scene with a character resembling a known living individual.  On the one hand, I'd fall short, and on the other, it's kind of creepy-stalkerish.

...and there are some I would never render in a million years I will not name out of respect for the Premier Artists who's clothes I actually love.

    Not sure if sarcasm... but:

She's a cutie by Sangriart at Renderosity. Based on actress Jenna Coleman to some degree. PA goldtassel uses the Osuine skin for his/her promo character.

Those promos are actually by joelegecko. And I think the V4, G1, G2F promo girl he used was much better than this Ousine skin one.

Interesting. Is it common for PAs not to make their own promos? I assumed that most/all did it themselves (and that the exceptions would be those publishing under a studio or "label" or whatnot).

Some people are much better at modeling/texturing/scripting/whathaveyou than they are at posing, lighting and all the other things that make a good render, so it makes sense to farm the promo renders out to other people who are better at that. Some may just consider artistic rendering an unnecessary distraction from their work, regardless of their skill. Some PAs also have other users beta test their products, and like what those users render out, so they include those in their product page.

Many of the DO promos are commissioned to other artists. It depends on the product.

So that's who you go to to get promos made, I've been looking at Deviantart for years but never seen him before...

Calm down Wendy, you don't have to... Each to his own, I'm more of a collector, I wish I could produce work like some of the people out there can but nope...
