It's a game engine that runs things like Fortnite. For people trying to create games or interactive scenes, the new bridge is a great thing. For the Daz users that are just wanting to render images then there is no benefit.
it lets you do stuff like this
I didn't use the plugin for this or any of the other multitude of videos I made with it
am still trying to figure it out after downloading today
I was curious myself. I'm always looking for something to expand my toolbox.
come join us inthe forum then
If you watch the Mandalorian, they used Unreal to design the environments in real time while the actors were in front of a green screen. It's an amazingly powerful program if you know how to use it. Look up Unreal 5, the new update that's coming out next year I believe, it's jaw dropping.
Do you need the interactive licenses for the DAZ products to utilize this cross-over functionality?
If you intend to publish it, yes you need licences. If you're just dorking about, as I do, you don't. Or rather I should say, who's going to know :p.
Only if you make a game, if you do an animated film or still renders, you don't need an interactive license.
Not just that, there was also a huge panoramic LCD screen behind them, so the Unreal-generated backgrounds could be filmed along with the actors rather than being comped in after the fact.
Yeah, my jaw was on the floor when I was watching the video a few months ago.
If your end goal is producing still or animations (ie. your product is the visuals you make with it) then no. The regular license is sufficient.
If your end goal is to distribute a game or interactive animation that includes the model geometry and not just the visuals then yeah, you'd need the game license for that.
Sounds like it needs lots of resources so I'll pass.
funny I have the crappiest computer and 980ti card and cannot do the stuff other people do in DAZ studio
but I use Unreal all the time
but it is probably not as PBR realistic as the iray diehards would like
or click and load
The question has already been answered but I thought I'd say that it's not called "Unreal", it's called the "Unreal Engine". Unreal was a game using the Unreal Engine via UnrealEd, hence the namesake, but this is DAZ's marketings fault for calling it "Unreal" and not UE.
I was about to ask, how long it will take to install UE (Unreal Engine).
Below is my progrees bar from it - at this rate, I am not sure, if I get it installed today.
Artini, I've found the UE servers to be quite zippy to download from. I have a 25MB connection and it can max it out. Problem may be between you and it. 11 gigs takes a while though.
I am at 23% of download, but I can play with the Unity at the same time, so it is ok.
For me, it's the ability to make epic landscapes with Unreal - I've been hoping for a DAZ Bridge, because the time setting up materials manually was so offputting that I never got around to manually importing DAZ content.
(DAZ models often have an insane number of texture maps per asset compared to "normal" game assets)
Oh my, is it really a 11.4 gigabyte downoad? I was thinking of taking a look but that would take a massive chunk of my monthly download allowance.
The sort of stuff you can do with Unreal from an art perspective (not making games or animation, just still images) is create a scene and populate it with atmospheric effects such as smoke or fog or flames or sparks etc etc (sometimes purchases are required to get good quality stuff). It's a bigger learning curve than DAZ Studio is, but there are plenty of instructional videos on YouTube etc.
Here's an example of something I did in Unreal... http://fav.me/dd5dz5r
I then did a render of my Flash Gordon in DAZ Studio and montaged him into the screenshot from the Unreal scene with Photoshop... http://fav.me/dd6h0s9
Now I can use the Bridge to send DAZ assets to place inside Unreal scenes - this opens up the possibilities such as castles in epic landscapes on a scale that DAZ Studio is simply not designed for - potentially very exciting options, and that's before even considering animations or games.
I'm curious about the UE to DAZ bridge...
I'm not seeing how to get it... from the store I click on the banner for the new plugins... it asks which one you are interested in... I have the others, so I click the UE button and it takes me to a page telling me how wonderful it is and it has field for me to fill in my info, and a CAPTCHA box that makes me prove I'm not a robot (or at least not a crappy robot that can't distinguish between stairs and bicycles)... I'm assuming that since the page says "Get DAZ to Unreal Bridge", that the info I'm filling out is to get it... but as far as I can see there is no "Submit" button, only a blue "Get Started For Free" button, which when I click it, it takes me to my account page with nothing seeming to have happened.
Do I Download it from GitHub or something?
Am I not understanding something, not seeing something or has the Unreal to DAZ bridge been downloaded directly to my cerebral cortext and I didn't notice because my brain is one of those cheaper models or not Nvidia compatible?
Thanks in advance for any info or suggestions on this matter.
EDITED TO ADD... Not sure if that's why, but when I click on the EULA it says you must be logged in to sign it... but I am logged in because when I click on the blue "logged in" link, it takes me straight to my account page again.
Something seems screwed up.
From a very experienced Unreal user as well as Daz in terms of rendering... Unreal is amazing for large scale scenes that Daz can't even begin to compete with. It also allows you to render effects and lighting in realtime (with ease) which is amazing. Unreal lacks the crisp details though since it is optimzed for games. Close up detail can never be captured in Unreal like it is in Daz. I would only recommend rendering in Unreal for large scale scenes and backgrounds. Anything close to the camera and you're going to take a hit in crisp details. An ideal formula would be render mid and background in Unreal, render close up stuff in daz, and combine them together in photoshop. Can't beat those large scale scenes though, and nearly photorealistic at that.
I got it from it's page in the store just like any other item. The page was a bit messed up, it had a price of a few dollars and a discount of minus infinity but it was free in the cart. From what I have read elsewhere it sounds like a lot of people had problems with this. Maybe they've sorted it out since you last tried.
It's listed in DIM to install but I haven't installed it yet. I think I should install the Unreal Engine and figure out how to use it first. I've heard that this is an 11 GByte download. I've got unlimited downloads but if it's going to take that much space on my c: drive I need to check how much free space I've got (the Daz Library takes a lot of it).
I think you need to find it in the shop and "purchase" it. https://www.daz3d.com/daz-to-unreal-bridge
Thank you that worked! I assumed the "get Unreal to DAZ bridge" banner thingie was the only way to get it, but I didn't recall having to fill out any forms or anything for the other bridges.
You live, you learn... and a week later you forget... then if you live a bit longer, you learn again... and a few days later forget again... it's a vicious cycle.
Thanks.
Finally I got UE 4,25,3 installed. It took more than 19 hours to complete.
Now I can finally explore the editor and the engine.
Unreal 5 is coming next year, and just see what it will be able to do - epic indeed...
...there will be no need for reduced poly game-ready versions of anything.
it's not like DAZ and DAZ studio LOL
nobody admonishes you
