Cookie Dough product range? Is it an early version of Aiko, etc?
I just chanced upon the entire range of "cookie dough" products... they are so lovely and seem so fun to work with!!... but what exactly are they and can they work seamlessly on DS? Are they in fact a very early version of cartoon/anime characters eg. Aiko and work the same way as other Daz characters?

AFAIK, Chip, Cookie, Star, and several others were brand-new characters created by LittleLadyfox & RuntimeDNA. But given that they had to release Star 2.0, which specifically advertised that it was based on the Genesis 3 platform, I guess people stayed away because they weren't compatible with Daz's official offerings and, hence, all the other products in the store.
@margrave Oh wow... I hadn't even heard of Star (neither 1.0 nor 2.0) until you mentioned it... they seem similar to the toons characters but I particularly found that cookie and chip had such adorable wardrobe!!! But sadly I will have them give them a miss since they might not work well/easily on DS. Is there also a male version of G3F Star 2.0?
I asked, and apparently there is not.
It might be possible to fake it using G3F face and body morphs (because in manga you can barely tell the guys and the girls apart anyway) but since it's such a unique-looking model I'm not sure how well it'll turn out. That's the downside of not using standardized characters.
Thank you for the precious insights!! Learning everyday :)
Yes, they're their own product lines, just like the Gumdrops or Koshini, Ichiro and Kiki.
And no, they're not early versions of Aiko. From memory Cookie was released during the V4 days, so after Aiko 3 and maybe 4. They're just toon figures with their own styles.
Lady Littlefox didn't "have to" produce Star 2.0. Star worked perfectly well as a standalone figure, but a version for the Genesis line was interesting too.
All of Lady Littlefoxs characters work in Daz.
@Leane So from my understanding of the above, as long as I stick to the wardrobes officially designed for Cookie/Chip - they should all mostly work OK on DS? I am sooo drawn to Cookie's Athena, Asian and Egyptian clothes as well as how adorable is Chip's Romeo!! And at a buck a piece... as long as they show up in my DS and I can make a couple of renders with them, I would be well pleased :)
I will probably not move on to Star 2.0 as I already have quite a collection of more recent toons/anime characters.
If you like these, you may also want to give Lolo Hai a shot. You can find the figure and clothing for free at ShareCG.
Cookie and Chip do work in DS. They will use their own clothes, morphs, poses... though, not items for any of the Genesis figures. And they don't have Iray materials either.
Thank you!! I was cautious because in the past by accident I purchased some Poser products and only found out later that (1) they aren't easily located within DS (2) My DIM options may not even download them (3) they jiust don't seem to work in DS hahaha
Will check them out, thank you so much!
Do they even have 3dl mats? Most things at RDNA were made for Poser so the mats will need to be weak to work in DS and some Poser mats don't work at all in DS.
You will find the products in the Poser runtime.
Yes, they should work.
They are in Poser format though. That means you will most probably have to adjust the materials a bit.
And they might not show up in Smart Content (I never use that so I never checked if they have metadata), so indeed they might be a bit harder to find if you're used to Smart Content.
OT: Do you customise your own installation folders? I do not... and I have a ton of products now, sometimes scattered in irrelevant folders that I would have never thought of, so much so that I am losing control over my inventory and just hoping that Smart Content takes me there. That said, I am sure that about 10% of my purchases go unused either because I cannot locate them or didn't remember having purchased them.
Awwww they even have Lil'Bit
I've never had a problem getting any of the Cookie or Star! characters and clothing to work in Daz Studio and I'm still adding to my collections. Personally, I think they are still worthwhile having in ones product library especially if you like doing toon-type renders.
ETA:
They are the few things I still use Install Manager to install as they do not install well with Daz Connect.
I added lots of stuff to my wish list and only a couple fo my cart because some or most of these $1 items might eventually sell for 8@$2.99 during an upcoming PC or Xmas Sale... (or perhaps in my wildest dreams!) These are really distant "nice to have" items for me as I already have toon/anime characters that I have never used yet.
Can the bones/bodies of Cookie/Chip both move like V3/V4 bodies? This is all completely new to me... going into Poser or Poser-like products.
I'm not sure what you're asking. They are poseable. The are all fully rigged characters. Unless you get a pose pack specifically for them, you'll have to pose them yourself which isn't too hard. I love posing. But they aren't any more difficult to pose than any other character.
Yes, posing is exactly what I meant... thanks, the term just slipped my mind... they are so totally adorable and their wardrobe too!
If you had a choice as a totally new collector of LittleFox's products, and based on most stuff being now at $1, would you go with Cookie or Star 1.0? For a female toon I am on the fence but for a male there's no other option but Chip.
Oh that's a tough call. I love them both! I started collecting the Cookie and Chip stuff first, mostly because I didn't know about Star! at the time. Once I found Star!, I started collecting her, too. They are so totally different I think my best advice is to figure out what you would like to render with each one and then decide what is a priority for your needs. And yeah, I've always thought it would be nice if Star had a male counterpart. Not sure what he would look like, but I'd definitely buy him.
I have several content directories, none of which are the default ones as my content is on an external drive.
I also reorganized folders on older content a lot, to regroup clothes by figure for example. Newer content usually doesn't need that as much.
I've started using DS way before Smart content tab was introduced, and most of my content wouldn't have had metadata for it so I never was interested in using it, it would have been way too much work to recategorize everything to make it usable.
If I started again today I would probably use the category system rather than moving the actual files.
@jjmainor Looking forward to seeing them! I haven't yet decided to checkout my cart but my wishlist just grew by over 30 items! Even at $1 a piece, these all add up seeing that they're a new genre for me and totally "nice to have"s and impulse buys! Also, I have never rendered in 3DL before.
Ohhh they look like so much fun!!! Cleopatra and Caesar are waaaaay too adorable, so are the asian dresses and the baby (who is not on sale)!
Littlefox's 'Toons are all cross-platform products, given that all of them use legacy i.e., non-weightmapped rigging.
The materials may need some tweeking in Studio for optimal performance. But unless something uses Poser procedural shaders, or Poser dynamic cloth, those also are still usable in Studio. All of these prodiucts predate Iray, but could probably be converted.
Cookie Dough iirc, was a morphing add-on product which increased content for Cookie's general usibility.
