I don't mind really, what I spend, but I just can't justify AMD Threadripper best considering its 5000 or something like that.

Well, if I do wind up buying a RTX 3080 20GB the total spend on my desktop I built last winter will reach near $2000. I cannot say it's smart for me to buy a nVidia video card with 8GB or 10GB knowing what I know about the iRay RAM usage of most of my scenes that I CPU render.
I'm going to look for the rest of 2020 though at rendering using Filament before I commit a $1000 to a video card as Filament style rendering is similar to what the game engines I use will be using anyway so I may as well get Filament looking good in DAZ Studio before exporting to a game engine.
(pst: ...but...I still want a high end video card though for the AI assisted help in DLSS upscaling (old public domain archives of toons and movies are tempting to cleanup & repost, also the same with old PD sound archives) and especially help with creating smooth animation, so Filament is still the relevant renderer I need but those other AI/DLSS functions in a high end nVidia GPU are needed even more than the iRay rendering capabilities with the interests of my hobby's needs taken into account.)
I have the money next month, but the only problem is stock... I plan to get the founder's edition most definitely, but it looks like I won't be getting one until I luck out next month, or have to wait until 2021 for the stock to equalize...

...nope, not this week.
From the rumours mill posted via a link in the DAZ Forums Commons section I will be waiting until they move to the 7nm process and be getting a GeForce RTX 3080 20GB most likely unless the price is even more than supposed it's going to be, leaving only the GeForce RTX 3070 16GB (I've already exceeded 16GB a couple of times on renders so that would not be the ideal choice but oh well).
bad news: rumors say the 20/16 GB cards have been dropped

Sounds reasonable, the 30xx series is sold out anyways, and putting 20GB on a 3080 is difficult due to the new "6x" memory chips. And a 16GB 3070 when there is no corresponding 3080 is strange.
For me that means 3090 (€1500 - nope) or 3080 (only +2 GB, nope) or... waiting....
Not only that, but they would split up their own market with those cards, they'd be effectively competing with themselves, and seeing as they can't even keep the stock of cards they just released, let alone new 3080/3070 variants... I sure hope Navi comes out swinging, as that will bring jensen back to earth!
Hey guys! I asked the hub for an RTX 3090 for Christmas. He opened my case and we determined there's plenty of room, it has the required number of pins and slots, and the power supply is more than adequate. We're trying to determine the difference/relevance between the options that come with this card. Some are significantly more costly, and we aren't sure why. So basically, which one to buy (when it's available)? All I want is for it to work with Studio (I do know at the moment it's only for beta). Thanks for any advice. :)
I haven't seen any serious differences between vendor's models.
One exception: Gigabyte has released a card with "blower-style fans". Those tend to be louder, but push the hot air directly out of the case (good for smaller cases). And it is only 2 slots wide, all others occupy 3 slots.
Gamers don't like the blowers, but when you run 2+ cards in parallell it makes a lot of sense.
EVGA, for instance, has five different versions of the 3090 for sale. It's the differences between them that's confusing for us.
I'm hoping for the Nvidia 3090... no options or confusion...$1499 at Best Buy website only...still out of stock and who knows when it will be back in stock.

They mostly differ in terms of overclocking capacities (not of any concern for us), and cooling solutions. So the only thing to consider for using for studio would be the size fittng the case and possibly the noise they generate. Noise is not an issue just go for the best bargain. If it is, read the reviews. FWIW, I have had very good experience with Palit jetstreams for 980 and now 1080Ti
Good to know. Thanks!
Thanks for the link. Don't see an option to sign up for notification when it's back in stock. Not that I think I'll be one of the lucky ones who happens to be online and looking at my email before they're sold out again. LOL
Got the MSI RTX 3090 ventus 3x and my god it is a beast ,,, I might have to give up a kidney but atleast the renders are fast :)
They go quick when they have them. Best Buy online had a few this morning at 11:15 am ET and you can't just click and buy one. As a bot defense, I guess, they make you wait and click again before it goes in your cart. They went fast and I wasn't quick enough it seems. Can't wait for the supply to go up so we can just buy it normally.
I dunno, I've got a Quadro P5000 AND a p6000 on the desktop, and Daz is still slow as heck, so.... ::headdesk::
In the threads here the 3090 is faster. And not as old as the 5000 and 6000. Daz Studio is slow on my older 980 ti.
