Sherlock & Steampunk Bundle

I was pretty surprised to not find a thread discussing this new bundle.

I was just saying about a week ago that I'd not seen anything really heavy from Stonemason and he hits me with this!

Let's make this a series Stonemason!

The bundle is nice. A little light on the Steampunk for my tastes. With an awesome set by the Stoneman, more should have been made from this site.

I got a purple banner because I own some of this already. I'm picking this up, even though I wish there was more Steampunk in the set.

Maybe that will encourage Daz to make more!

i will say what i told before, for me this bundle is "overpriced", it have half of it being old stuffs, this 159.95 is too high just for 1 more stuff, than a regular pro bundle which would be 134.95, and also the fact which all the outfits are "old" and we don''t get a new one is also bad for me, another problem is again daz puting "stuffs" from others bundles inside this bundle, why you can't use only non bundle stuffs?? daz have a lot of non bundle stuffs which would be used to make this "repacks", instead of go for stuffs from "others bundles", i'm not against using old stuffs, i'm against keep adding stuffs from others packs unless is a sort of "big pack" geting others packs together, but using some stuffs form others packs for me is really bad.

the only real good thing would be the street scene on the pack for me the rest feel pretty generic which don't means bad just not good "for again the price".

  • I did a video with the Stonemason set

could'nt afford the bundle even discounted

  • With the number of things that I already had, I got a nice purple banner.

Combined with another item (to trigger 50% off rather than 40%), my price for the bundle itself was just over $25.

So... Stonemason set, Hair/moustache, Mousso girl, 2 G8M dudes, plus one or two old things that I actually didn't have for $25? That works for me.

About four minutes into the video, the music had me thinking I'd better get to the end of the level before I run out of time.

$25?!? What kind of deal did you get with the purple banner? Mine was 40% off. I bought something else too, but that brought my bundle to about $34.

My purple banner was for 55% off and that with another release brought my bundle price to about $25. Then with my PC+ coupon I got the bundle for about $19

My banner was 55% off... so the normal price was around $30 or so for me.
(Adding another item got it to a little over $25.)

So, I probably already owned one or two other items from the bundle. I can't explain the math, myself.

Most of the old stuff I've already considered and rejected, so I'm only picking up a few new pieces, including the Stonemason set, which is the only remotely steampunk thing in the whole bundle.  It should have been called a Victorian bundle.

WRT bundle prices, it's worth keeping in mind that the included products are of higher quality than what's in the run-of-the-mill pro bundle, and there are no poses or expressions included.  So if the bundle appeals to you, it's a better than average value.

I looked at the bundle, and saw some nice stuff. At the same time, it appeared much is missing. Where are the steampunk vehicles that would go with such a set? The price is higher than I'd pay for something I might not use.

Over the years I've seen individual steampunk items, but have never seen any set or collection to bring it all together. I wondered if I missed a bundle that happened years before I noticed Steampunk? I envision a set that has clothing, scenes, props, poses, etc that all go together. The Sherlock bundle almost gets there, but is too expensive.

I guess I'm the odd one out, because I'm glad this bundle wasn't actually very steampunky.

I agree. The Victorian Bundle would have been more accurate.

Oh okay. I owned 4 items already. The 2 Victorian outfits. Carriage and the female outfit textures.

I played around with the idea of just getting the mai items I wanted, but it was more expensive that way.

rip the gears off Stoney's set and it would easily combine with Old London and other Victorian/Edwardian sets yes

was by itself a good SM budget set and to my delight loaded with alpha png into Twinmotion, out of the box! no fussing around with Gimp adding transparency layers as Twinmotion only loads one bitmap no separate opacity map.

And yes Nylon girl, Twinmotion being UE4 based does have a definite video gamey feel but damn it renders fast.

I own all the Mid Victorian items and the carriage, enough to warrant an extra 55% off purple banner, but the remaining items are not anything I really need,

Being a big fan of Steampunk, I did pull the trigger on Stonemason's masterpiece, though.smiley

  • How easy is it to hide/remove the gears (and maybe the pipes) and turn the Stonemason set into a regular Victorian street set?

    One click.

For the gears anyway, pipes can be hidden using cutout opacity..

the gears are all instanced from one prop..so delete the master and all the others will go away

do that and you've more or less got Streets of Old London part 2 ,which is what this set originaly was meant to be :)

Excellent addition to my library of items.

Below is my render of Mark in the environment.

Any tips on rendering dark scenes?

Perfect! I am not into Steampunk at all, so I was hoping to get rid of or hide the gears for more Victorian scenes :-)

Waaaiiiiit a minute - did you just glue some gears on it and call it steampunk? lol

I hope the OP (Tsarist) gets the wish and the series continues.  But in this case it wasn't worth it to me even for the discount for owning older stuff - I owned most of the Victorian stuff (Mr. Hyde, bwahahaha).  There have been other cases of bundles with older stuff in which I didn't own anything.  Hit or miss.  Hope they just keep putting them out there.  If it is worth it to me, I'll buy, and if not, there is always another sale.

That's the first thing that came to my mind as well! laugh

On a more serious note, I really do appreciate your inclusion of .OBJ files for other programs.  Thus, I have a question.  I will assume this will apply to both this set and the Streets of Old London.

When importing those .OBJ files into Poser, what parameters should be set, like relative position and scaling.  (I recall there's a vast size difference.)  Because when I import with every box "UN-checked, I can't find the bloody models.  Either they are absurdly small or insanely huge.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Hi Bill, I'm so sorry but I haven't used Poser in years, I'm not really sure what settings to use when importing obj.

@Stonemason - your Streets of Steampunk is an awesome environment. Thank you for your work.yes

This scene is still work in progress and needs a lot more work, but it sort of almost created itself as soon as I loaded the environment. I just had to add what I saw in the scene that came to my mind immediately as soon as I saw Mousso's Virginia in my list of figures:

I now need to somehow reduce the rendering time (over 2 hours) and increase the Depth of Field effect.

You are definitely not the odd one out, I am not a fan of steampunk either, and I was pleased to see this set can be easily changed to remove that genre. I like any historical setting, as long as it is at least reasonably accurate of its era.

  • It's an awesome bit of scenery. The only thing I'd change would be that I'd want the manhole covers as props in case one wanted a scene of someone or something coming up out of the sewers... gonna try to make a manhole cover prop that I can texture with to look like the ones in the set and then figure out a good way to fake there being a hole there...

Had to do a quick test.  This renders pretty quickly.  FWIW, there's less geometry in the whole scene than in most dForce hairs, and that's without hiding any parts of the set.  I used the Iray matte fog, and then added some more fog in post.

If I recall, 25000 is the magic number you need to use when scaling things up.
