It's an awesome bit of scenery. The only thing I'd change would be that I'd want the manhole covers as props in case one wanted a scene of someone or something coming up out of the sewers... gonna try to make a manhole cover prop that I can texture with to look like the ones in the set and then figure out a good way to fake there being a hole there...

I use HS PowerUp for my manhole and cover issues.

Once you have your manhole prop of the same size+shape as the one in the set, you can either use green-screen (chroma-key) - i.e. use a 2nd manhole prop just barely poking above the road surface, remove all maps and colour it green (or pink or some other colour not appearing in the scene), then remove that colour in GIMP/Photoshop/etc and overlay it on top of another render with the hole (using same camera angle for 2nd render) - OR - you can create a transmap based on the original texture maps to make a hole in the ground and then put everything in the scene (your manhole will need a 'frame' or something to avoid seeing a paper-thin road)

the gears are all instanced from one prop..so delete the master and all the others will go away

do that and you've more or less got Streets of Old London part 2 ,which is what this set originaly was meant to be :)

Waaaiiiiit a minute - did you just glue some gears on it and call it steampunk? lol

That's the first thing that came to my mind as well! laugh

On a more serious note, I really do appreciate your inclusion of .OBJ files for other programs.  Thus, I was a question.  I will assume this will apply to both this set and the Streets of Old London.

When importing those .OBJ files into Poser, what parameters should be set, like relative position and scaling.  (I recall there's a vast size difference.)  Because when I import with every box "UN-checked, I can't find the bloody models.  Either they are absurdly small or insanely huge.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Hi Bill, I'm so sorry but I haven't used Poser in years, I'm not really sure what settings to use when importing obj.

Thanks for at least answering.  Don't worry.  As long as somebody (doesn't really matter who) can provide an answer, I'll be  satisfied.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

If I recall, 25000 is the magic number you need to use when scaling things up.

24384% (number of centimeters in 8 feet).

  • Well, the set still works great even at extreme closeup range.  Resized by 800% to fit the small stature of the characters.

24384% (number of centimeters in 8 feet).

I tried those numbers a couple of different ways.  When the initial import parameter window appears and plugging those numbers into the "percentage of standard figure" and alternativly once imported (without anything cecked) placing those numbers into the primary scale "dial".  In both cases, I could see nothing in the workspace even though the program claimed a "prop" was present.  The only way I've been able to get the .OBJ files to appear is to import  it at "100 % of standard figure", "centered" and "placed on ground".  But that doesn't really help if I wish to stage several pices because they are all the height, legth or width of a standard figure, meaning the famous Clock Tower is the same size as a barrel and there's no real clue where the pieces should be positioned within the workspace.

I know what's coming.  "Bill, get DAZ Studio; it's free."

My machine is 10 years old and certain DLLs conflict with DS.  I WAS going to get a new computer this year, but then Covid arrived and I reasoned I'd better hold just in case the wave of layoffs "bit" me as well.  Even if not for Covid, earlier this week I learned I need to have a crown replaced ta minimum a one new crown and depending what happens to two other teeth, ultimately another 2 crowns.  even with company insurnace, that's gonna be potentially  5 to 6 thousand dollars out of pocket!  So, no, no new PC that can run DAZ Studio for me, not anytime soon.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

    Millimeters, not centimeters.

I am really wondering that nobody complaints that the "sherlock" Bundle actually contains no suitable clothing for a Sherlock Holmes character. At best, it may be sufficient for Dr. Watson, but no Cape, not the hat and no Holmes-like character at all ... :(

Does anybody know a source for such clothing???

That is taking a particular version of Holmes, especially if you are wanting the deerstalker.

Jep, deerstalker and cape. Used to be clear before the Last incarnations in tv and cinema made it a joke to discuss and NOT wear the deerstalker. However, at least for my generation the deerstalker is as iconic as the coke red santa.

but admittedly, youre technically right ... now get me That deerstalker ;)

Fun fact: deerstalker hats aren't mentioned in the stories.
