Please, please, please vote! Puh-leeeassse!

Not trying to spam here, but if there is anybody here that has Carrara and doesn't get over to the Carrara discussion thread, has Carrara but doesn't know where to start, is interested in seeing what Carrara can do or just has an interest in seeing some cool renders and techniques, then this challenge may be worth taking a look at:
August Carrara Challenge: SIZE MATTERS! Voting thread!!!
Voting is open to anybody! You don't need to use Carrara or even like it! Show some fellow DAZ artists some love!
RingoMontfort and DAZ 3D generously donated the prizes for this challenge. I wish to give them a big thank you! I'd do more, but there's this restraining order you see....
This thread was intended to provide a running update on the challenge and the WIPs. Voting is now open! Please support all of our DAZ artists and take a look and vote for your favorite entries! You can vote for up to three!
The last challenge and its associated WIP thread generated some very cool renders and provided lots of tips and tricks for people even if they chose not to participate in the challenge.
That's really the underlying theme of these Carrara challenges: Education. The goal is to help new, intermediate, and veteran users learn about Carrara, and also to educate non-Carrara users about Carrara, all while doing so in a friendly, fun atmosphere!

We're starting to get some WIPs, plus there's a discussion on how to achieve some nice animal hair for a rabbit. If there's anyone curious about Carrara's hair system, this may be a good time to pop in and even ask a question or two!

The hair discussion continues. Additionally there is some discussion on how to use boolean operations in the VM to make liquid that perfectly fits the bottle!
Page two of the WIP thread shows some nice starts by several artists.
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/44033/P15
Page three has some more progress and a couple more artists have submitted some WIPs. It should be an exciting challenge as the imagination and quality of the WIPs so far is excellent. You want a giant Tokyo eating lizard? You've got a giant Tokyo eating lizard!
Page three also has a free Carrara dynamic hair preset for the DAZ Gorilla that I've made available for anybody that wants it with no restrictions.

If anybody else wishes to comment in this thread or ask a question, please feel free! This is a forum after all. ;-)
Pages 4 and 5 of the WIP thread feature a couple new artists submitting WIPs, and beginning a discussion on using the depth render pass in Photoshop to add a depth of field in post production, which is a real time saver when rendering!

Diomede64 did a spherical render of a room to add a fitting reflection for his scene. This will save time in the final render as there is no geometry aside from his subjects to render.
Kashyyk started a side thread with a nice little tutorial on how to do it in PS.

Page 6 finds another artist taking up the gauntlet, and Stezza twists my challenge theme around to his own nefarious and pun-ey purposes! :gulp:
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/44033/P75/!
Some cool WIPs and nice discussion on page 7 of the WIP thread:

Just a reminder that I'm going to open the challenge entry thread at some point tomorrow. Saturday, August 2, 2014. I can't say for sure when it will be opened, as my day is filling up quickly with unplanned and time consuming chores.
I also wanted to emphasize that even though the entry thread will be open, if you want to participate but haven't started yet, you still have time! The entry period will be two weeks and you can submit your WIPs here at any point in that two week window. Just don't forget to put your entry in the entry thread before the deadline!
The submission thread for this challenge is now open! Here's the link:

w00t! We have our first official entry! Check it out! It's a great example of what can be done with Carrara's native render engine!
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/44589/#655077
Page 8 of the WIP thread has some more great WIPs from DUDU and kashyyk! There's also some tips on how to work around and fix clipping issues when the camera is moved in really, really close to an object!
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/44033/P105
Page 9 of the WIP thread has a good discussion on using different render passes to add Carrara's dynamic hair to a depth pass. There are also some cool new WIPs posted as well.

The submission thread currently stands at three fantastic entries.
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/44589/
Page 9 of the WIP thread finished off with Diomede's WIP on the Colossus of Rhodes.
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/44033/P120
Page 10 begins with me explaining how to use a depth pass to create or enhance an atmosphere in Photoshop, and how to use the depth pass and the Lens Blur filter in Photoshop to add a depth of field. I also explain how to get an old black and white photo look, with just a hint of sepia.

We have another entry in the Submission thread. Good luck to DUDU and all the other entrants!

There's still time to try your hand at this challenge, or even just to pop into the WIP thread and see the steps that are taken to create a scene in the challenge! Heck, ask a question or three if you wish!
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/44033/
Page 10 has some more WIPs and the return of a Carrara friend that's been gone a long time!

You are doing a great job on this months Carrara challenge EP...
Here is a render I did but not submitting as it doesn't comply with the rules..
Thought I'd share it with ya'll anyways...
Still a really nice render Stezza. As always it's a great camera angle. That's why I love your renders, the perspective of the camera and the subject matter is always so unique.
I always thought it was because the part of the world you're from is upside down! ;-)
super render Stezza, but I like ep's betterererer ;)

Wow! I've been checking the WIP thread... cool stuff! Cool WIPs!

Of course to us downunder the letters look perfectly the right way up. Except this last sentence.
There are always so many tips and tricks in the WIP thread. Might be good to gather all of the challenge WIP threads in some way just for the tutorial value. This month has some excellent illustrations of creating hair.
I was thinking of trying to do just that. I wasn't sure when I could do it. If anybody has any of those threads bookmarked, it would sure save some time searching!
We've blown through page 11! There are some new artists contributing WIPS for what will be very imaginative, funny and emotional pieces of art.
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/44033/P165/
Page 12 has started off with some more excellent WIPs and last month's winner is risking it again with an entry!
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/44033/P165/
The new faces have really been adding some great WIP images! Should be a great challenge.
I'm very excited about the new participants as well!
Page 14 has some excellent WIP and discussions on using terrains as stuff other than terrains! Page 14 also has me yelling in panic, "don't eat me anty Em!" :ahhh:
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/44033/P195/
I just want to remind everybody that the submission thread closes this up-coming Friday, August 15, 2014. Voting then opens.
Page 15 is off to a good start with a re-imagining of a previous WIP. It needed more cheesecake. :red: Plus there's a case of "writer's block."
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/44033/P210/
We have a new entry in the submission thread. Remember, this coming Friday at approximately 8:00 PM DAZ time (US Mountain), the submissions close and voting begins!
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/44589/
Page 15 has some more WIP stuff and a question and answer about using shadow catchers in Carrara.
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/44033/P210/
On Page 16 of the WIP thread, we have a continuation of two excellent WIPs by diomede64 and DaleHardman. Both also provided great details on their workflow and the ideas behind the images.
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/44033/P225/
We have two more entries in the submissions threads bringing the total to seven so far! I can tell already, it's going to be hard to decide when it comes time to vote!
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/44589/#660617
I just want to stress that the entry deadline is coming up on Friday evening (US), so if you've been working on something, but weren't sure if you were going to enter, let me just say, ENTER!!! The more the merrier!
I know that it can be scary putting your work, and by extension, yourself out there for all to see. So if you're new to Carrara or 3D artwork in general, I encourage you to take leap of faith and post a WIP or just ask some questions! Even if you decide not to enter something, at least by asking a question, hopefully you've learned an answer and become part of a great community!
Come on in! The water's fine!
Here's one I was playing around with... using DoF
was toying with the idea of entering it but decided to go another route... :coolsmirk:
You and your under-endowed cave men! ;-)
