Yeah, can be tricky finding clothes for younger figures.
In general, though, males don't have the same problems as females due to the body changes for females as they age.
3duniverse has a lot of clothes meant for smaller people. Those are very good/less likely to have deformation issues.
Otherwise, I like to fit g8m clothing to g8f when I do render younger g8f figures. That also works pretty well.
I wasn't sure if you meant you were looking for just clothing or if you want advice on making a child character.
If it's clothing you're looking for, Male clothing is usually less revealing so usually more "age-appropriate" for kids, so you could try using the "everyday" clothing designed for the males on both genders.
Also, have you checked out Wilmap's Digital Creations? She tends to create clothing that is a bit more conservative, I think, so some of her stuff might be a good option for child characters.
As for a child character, Growing Up and Growing Up Faces might help in the creation of younger characters.
For the character itself, Angel_Wings does some very good pre-teen characters. Textures can be a problem too, finding ones suitable for children.
There are these resources - https://www.daz3d.com/growing-up-skin-for-genesis-3-female-s

Right now, the only character by Angel Wings that's available for purchase anywhere since she closed shop at Rendo is Chloe available here.
Fingers crossed that she brings her brood here at some point.
3D Universe has probably got the widest selection of young person items e.g. https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-clothing-set-01-for-genesis-8-females
and of course has a fair number of young characters too.
There was also a character that might work... and guess what, I can't find her now that I'm looking - was tripping over her all the time on the sales pages, LOL.
-edit-
This looks like a good character...

Alternatively, it might be easier to age characters that are a bit younger rather than trying to always make older characters look younger - maybe a character like this could be aged slightly

and of course, the Zev0 morphs would be a an essential tool in the tollbox

For clothes you'll see a few suggestion in this thread: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/320806/child-apropriate-clothes-for-g3-g8
You buy the DAZ Originals Head Morphs, DO Body Morphs, DO Expressions for the G8F/G8M and Measure Metrics(Figure Metrics) products. Then search the internet for statistical ranges for body measurements of 7 - 10 year olds and adjust the measurements of the G8F and G8M characters you want as children. Apply the Younger Morph, Child Face, make the nose more childlike as desired from the previously bought products. Note: You can apply head morphs or other DAZ/PA models you like before you do that to get a version of them as a young child.
For the child skin textures you can't do better than the Caryn for G8F or Tobyn for G8F currently. You can get less pale/dark babies by messing with the Surfaces color settings. You can also add Babyfication for Caryn & Tobyn to the mix as some 7 - 10 years can look quite babyish. If you use Babyfication do that step before you start doing the Measure Metrics steps. You don't want to apply Babyfication 100% since they are 7 - 10 years old.
There are plenty of T shirts, Shorts, Dresses, and pants for female characters that aren't revealing and are "ageless". Not that hard to find.
Woops wrong thread.
@MimicMolly "except they like shirts with their favorite toon or video game characters on them."
Agreed. Those can generally be found by searching for "Cute" or "Kawaii"
So what distinguishes them from adults?
Kids' clothes are more "modest" in length and neckline, at least for girls. The designs and writing on shirts, if they're into that, is "childish." My point was that any "modest" outfit adults wear will do. For 3D, they may require some retexturing (or applying a shader) or morphing for any deformity in the chest area or crotch area.
Adults have Simpson characters and metal band tour dates on their T-shirts.
I saw a line of clothes for kids offered on-line where the creators (a pair of moms) started because their kids just wanted 'colors' without the junk on it, or selling a company's logo. So they offered tees and sweatshirts and shorts, in bright colors and in pastels/soft tones. I saw them and thought I would like that option too. I know my son when he was small, was very decided about 'kiddie' looks. As in, don't bother, he wouldn't wear them.
I find it annoying that a lot of otherwise great 3D content is plastered all over with cats, unicorns, logos, slogans etc.. It's fine if they are addons you can apply, but usually they're baked into the texture which is a very bad idea IMO. I'm sure they're losing sales on that account, personally I usually skip such products.
Baked texture maps are so much better than shaders. Just open the map and put your own image onto the map and presto... with a little skill. Kitbashing is one of he great pleasures in 3D.
I'm talking about cats, logos, slogans etc. baked into the texture. Bake the texture but keep the fabric clean and use LIE overlay or whatever for the cats instead, or include a clean texture also (you already have it anyway), so you can choose whether you want the cat or not.
Tentman has a lot of school clothes and other clothes appropriate for kids https://www.daz3d.com/tentman
Today, Dogz has a dForce version of his school outfit for girls, https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-time-for-school-for-genesis-8-females. That outfit, can be adjusted with shaders too. Pre-Covid, I would see a lot of kids in uniforms like the ones he has going or coming from school. Not just private ones or Catholic ones, but public ones where they were trying to instill a 'business approach' to achooling.
Yesterday, willowmoon3d had a nice dress that could work for girls also. https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-sunshine-girl-outfit-for-genesis-8-females. It is very modest and cute and I could see my granddaughter wearing it with leggings, tights, or shorts easily.
I am really pleased to see Dogz's update to the Time For School set. Now I'm hoping that he is going to be doing an update for the boys' uniforms, too.
Yes, Tentman is another vendor who does a fair amount of clothing you could put on a kid. Sometimes the skirts could be a bit longer, but there are rarely the unexplained holes that a lot of vendors seem to think are sexy. Kobamax, over on Rendo used to have some decent ones as well -- although the skirts really needed to be longer on many of them. (When I was a kid schools had dress codes. Skirts were supposed to cover the knees.)
But DS gives the "parent" an opportunity to finally dress the kids up like she wants
...3DUniverse has this.Granted it's mainly for messages rather than images but it alows the user to create custom phrases and slogans.

At least all the threads like this do make me feel young. Knee length skirts. When was that? The 1700's? :)
I would point at where DAZ3D the company is located and how that informs their choices.
Thanks, I already have that one, it doesn't solve the problem with textures with cats, logos and stuff baked into them though.
I own a bunch of tentman's stuff and pretty much every skirt or dress can be made longer with the included morphs.
Fortunately though, most of those have solid backgrounds, so it's not crazy difficult to paint them out, if need be. A lot of things aren't worth the trouble to mess with, but some are.
A quick and easy trick I've found that often works if you wish for a solid color, rather than a pattern, is that you can often just drop the Bump map into the Base Color/Defuse map slot and then pick any color you want.
The Dogz outfit is pretty much identical to the uniform I had in grade school except we had no tie and the skirts were shorter. They didn’t supply us with a uniform, we had to buy our own navy blue blazers and sweaters, white shirts, grey skirt, white or navy knee socks and navy shoes. Since we could shop wherever we wanted as long as the colors were correct, we tried to be as fashionable as possible and short skirts is all they had in the stores anyway for kids so we all had short skirts. I don’t really think I’ve ever seen a kid with a skirt down to the knees.
It’s funny, I was once commissioned to do some fairie characters for someone and they were concerned the outfit was too short and could be inappropriate for young children viewers. I then sent them images from Disney’s Tinkerbelle franchise and then they were like “oh, OK.”
