All characters show up in viewport, male and female, ACCEPT Genesis 8 female and ALL character variations of her. I had no problems until a few days ago. I drag her into the scene and it shows she is there in the scene tab, but the eyeball icon is closed from the get go. When I try to open it there is no response, the eye icon stays closed no matter what. I bring other characters into the scene and the icon works for them on and off all day long.  It is stuck closed for genesis 8 female for some reason, and other characters associated with her.. Please help!!!

Is your "Visible" parameter locked in the Parameters tab, under Display? It would show as a little padlock above the control. Click on it to change.

  • Moved to Daz Studio Discussion as it is not a scipting question

Could be some controller is driving the visibility. The visibility control is a simple toggle, and isn't normally driven by anything else, but something might have been introduced that takes over. Back in the Parameters tab, click on the little gear icon for the Visible control (and any similar, like Visible in Viewport) and select Parameter Settings. In the bottom half of the dialog, check if there are any Controllers or Sub-Components listed.

  • under controller it says ERC[DeltaAdd]>Genesis 8 Female: Base Joint Correctives. would that matter? what else should I check or do I change that somehow?

  • With G8F selected, Post sceenshots of your

    (1) Scene Pane

    (2) Scene Info Pane

    (3) Display Sub-Pane under Parameters  Pane> Visible in Viewport

    (3) Surfaces Pane - especially showing Geometry and Cutout Value

So when you go to the Visible control and click the gear icon in the corner, you see something in the Controller tab in the dialog box?

The attachments show what I see, and what it likely should look like.

That doesn't look right, that controller shouldn't be there. Those are the only parameters you have under Display? There should be more, like mine. What does G8M list under Display, for comparison? Like yours or like mine? I get the impression something clobbered your G8F installation. First thing to try is re-install your Genesis 8 Female Essentials.

  • the following are the display listings for G8M. its only the female thats effected, and Ive already tried reinstalling all the G8 essentials and it didnt help at all.

Okay, G8M looks okay. It must be some other G8F figure or add-on that is interfering. I suggest backtracking up to the point where it stopped working to uninstall any G8F add-on characters or morph sets, or anything that would directly affect G8F. Clothing and hair are probably innocent, expressions might have an effect. Even after removing them, re-install Genesis 8 Female Essentials in case a shared file is left behind to get a clean version.

If you select "Show Hidden" in parameters tab and "Currently Used", do you see hidden dials with non-zero value?

One way to track down the culprit would be renaming the "Genesis 8 Female: Base Joint Correctives" and checking the log, which morphs start complaining, but that will need identification of the correctives first - That's what's the first line is about.

  • After messing with the diffrent toggles I discovered a way to TEMPARARILY make G8F visible. It only works with the model selected, If I import another G8F I have to do the whole procedure over for the new one each time. If I close the software it wont retain info so I have to one again repeat this process. The process is to click the toggle that looks like a chain link, see picture. After clicking that I select and click "ON" inside the Visible Tab twice and the models shows up in veiw.  Any suggestions on making this permanant and not having to do it everytime I bring G8F into the scene??

PerttiA, I cant find "show hidden" but "currently used" looks like the screenshot below.

Right-click the parameters tab, the option to "Show Hidden properties" should be on the drop down menu unless they have moved it in the last two updates (I'm still using 4.12.0.86)

That is the "Override Controllers" switch, and, as you have discovered, it is temporary. I didn't notice it in your first G8F screencaps. It only appears when there is a controller to override. The root cause of the problem really needs to be corrected, though. There could be other complications you haven't discovered yet.

Close down DS and navigate to folder "../data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 8/Female/Morphs/DAZ 3D/Base/"

You will find a file "BaseJointCorrectives.dsf" and rename that to "BaseJointCorrectives.dsf.xxx" (windows will give you a warning about changing the extension but just ignore it)
Start DS and clear the log (with the log open, CTRL+A and delete, close the log and when windows asks if you want to save, choose yes)
Load the developer version to an empty scene. (Genesis 8 Female Dev Load)

When the figure has loaded, open the log again and you should see several lines of
"2020-11-16 19:13:16.586 WARNING: ..\..\..\..\..\src\sdksource\fileinput\dzassetdaz.cpp(5818): Could not find target property for formula: Genesis8Female:/data/DAZ%203D/Genesis%208/Female/Morphs/DAZ%203D/Base/BaseJointCorrectives.dsf#JCMs%20On?value in file : /data/DAZ%203D/Genesis%208/Female/Morphs/DAZ%203D/Base%20Correctives/pJCMThighFwd_57_R.dsf"

This reads as "Reading the file pJCMThighFwd_57_R.dsf DS found a reference to a file BaseJointCorrectives.dsf which it cannot find"

    Ten (10) warnings are valid, the files are;
    pJCMThighFwd_57_R.dsf
    pJCMThighFwd_57_L.dsf
    pJCMShldrUp_90_R.dsf
    pJCMShldrUp_90_L.dsf
    pJCMShldrFwd_110_R.dsf
    pJCMShldrFwd_110_L.dsf
    pJCMShldrDown_40_R.dsf
    pJCMShldrDown_40_L.dsf
    pJCMCollarUp_55_R.dsf
    pJCMCollarUp_55_L.dsf

If you get any other warning looking for BaseJointCorrectives.dsf, that file is likely the culprit.

Save the log somewhere where it is safe (not the default location) and close DS.

Now you can change the name of BaseJointCorrectives.dsf back to what it is supposed to be (remove the ".xxx").

  • I did as you stated and got NONE of those messages in the log. here is what the log says. This is so confusing.

That means the file "BaseJointCorrectives.dsf" was not renamed to "BaseJointCorrectives.dsf.xxx" Try again and this time check that the file is renamed.

  • but the file was renamed. Im not sure wy there isnt an error message for it.

Then it is finding that file somewhere else first. Path references in the files are relative to the Library root folder, not absolute. Do you have any other Library folders defined in your Content Set above the main library folder (see Content Library tab -> right-click -> Content Directory Manager)? When looking for files, Studio starts at the top of the list of mapped folders and works down until it finds what it needs. Maybe you installed with Connect and also DIM. The Connect library defaults higher in the list than the DAZ Studio Formats library. If you are looking in DAZ Studio Formats library folder, making changes there will not be seen.

  • Im not really sure whay im looking for here, so i did a screenshot of that tab as well

Those are the folders where Studio looks for content, in that order. Did you at any point install Genesis 8 Female Essentials with Connect (that's Studio's internal mechanism, often referred to as Smart Content)?

Expand the Libraries to show the folders for each one and post a screenshot of that, please.

  • ive installed only with DAz Central. I even uninstalled and redid the installation a week ago. no help there either, still acted the same. it only started about 2 weeks ago or close to that. its worked perfectly from the beginning until then.

  • when I look under smart content tab the models show up there. could it have installed by accident in the wrong place...like twice?? the screenshot shows my Smart Content tab

Central would only install where it is set up to install, and if you have not changed that, it is where it is supposed to be. We'll look at that possibility later. Now, back to Content Directory Manager. Please expand the Libraries (click on the + in the box for each) to show the folders being used and post a screenshot of that. (You can obscure your user name if it shows in the path, for privacy concerns).

  • here is that screenshot

Okay. Studio will start looking for files starting with the first folder in the list. Well, second in the list, there is no content in the CMS Cluster Directory.

From your Smart Content screenshot, it looks like Genesis 8 Essentials has not been installed with Connect, but we'll check to be absolutely sure there is nothing there. In your Windows explorer, navigate to the folder shown for "DAZ Connect Data". There should be a folder "data\cloud" but nothing more, if you have never installed with Connect. Please confirm.

Which of the three libraries are you using to install your products? There could be conflicts coming from one of the other folders if it is not the primary. If you are not using them, remove them from the list to keep only the Library you actually use (you can add them back later with no loss of data). Accept, and see if that makes a difference. Of course, you would have to reload G8F, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to restart Studio to clear any cached data.

  • Im not familiar at all with Daz Connect. Ive only used Install manager and Daz Central. is that one of those by a different name? i looked and cant find the folder "Daz Connect data" but I will continue to look.

  • NorthOf45NorthOf45 Posts: 5,532

"DAZ Connect Data" is the name of the Library. The folder is "C:\Users\(name)\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My DAZ Connect Libr..." and it's cut off there.

DAZ Connect is a completely different download and install method built into Studio. DIM and Central are, let's say, related, but work outside Studio. Studio works with content installed with any method. Best not to mix Connect with the other two, it will cause you no end of confusion.

I just want to establish what is where, and find the elusive rogue controller.
