Am I the only one who thinks Genesis 2 is a step back after Genesis?

Or in some regards even V4 is better than Genesis 2. Sure it looks more detailed by default, but the available morphs don't work as well. I'm doing muscular characters most of the time and in that regard Genesis works much better than Genesis 2. I mean the muscle flexing morphs for Genesis 2 are very bad and very limited. On top of that the default bodybuilder morph is bad too. Sure the default bodybuilder morph of Genesis1 is not so great either but there is the muscularity add-on that works well.
Are there plans for a similar addon for Genesis2? Right now I feel crippled, I like the character but the result always ends up very bad.So I tend to step back to Genesis all the time. Or even V4, but properly fitting clothing becomes an issue then.
Any suggestions?

First suggestion: GET YOURSELF GENX(2).
This package will let you use morphs from previous generations. Doesn't Gianni 6 fit your bodybuilding needs? Or course, Genesis Evolution Morphs are more flexible, because you can use them on both sexes straight out of the box, but Gianni has some great characters.
DAZ went out with Gen2F and Gen2M to ease things for PAs - they don't have to support both sexes now. They also say the gender split allows ultrarealistic morphs. May I ask how long have you been in 3D? Have you experienced the dawn of Gen2F and then Gen2M? Do you remember the days when people produced males by flattening Gen2F's breasts ?

another suggestion - get yourself the clones for G2F and G2M so you can use their clothes on Genesis.
Any character texture set you buy for G2F or G2M can also be back converted to Genesis using the Map Transfer utility in Daz Studio if needed.

Thank you and yes, the clones are a must-have. One can try to make his or her own too, I think, but if you can afford the clones, it's easier and quicker.
I always want to stress there is no need for "generation wars". They have different purposes. Genesis is the best choice for fantasy creatures - but this is only my opinion. Gen2F and Gen2M are ultrarealistic adults. Generation 4 figures will continue to be in use: a must-have for Poser users and to use characters made by vendors who don't support Generation 5-6 :) - like Thorne, who focuses on V4 and A4. I have a selection of A3 characters, which make perfect faes. And Liam for H3, who is their Robin Goodfellow. I'm certainly not going to choose just one generation. You shouldn't too.
I see pros and cons to the gen 2 line. For men, the males just have weird pecs. Also not keen on the male heads. But, fortunately there is gen x to import stuff from the previous generations.
I find I get a more pleasing look (to me anyway) by importing the G2M characters into Genesis and mixing them with Genesis morphs and characters.
I admit I dont do muscle at all and I only use G2F but I am honestly prefering Genesis 2 over the previous figures. And unlike Genesis, being able to keep male and female specifics seperated is far better in my eyes and keeps the morph lists far more organized and easier to sort through.
When I want realistic adult human characters, I'm using Genesis 2 Female and Genesis 2 Male most of the time these days (but not all the time...it was an easy decision to use Genesis for this character). I'm still using Genesis a lot too...sometimes for realistic people but more often for creatures and toon characters.
Good artists can (and do) get outstanding results from just about any figure from Generation 3 on up, and in some cases even older ones, so to me it doesn't matter so much which ones you choose to use. I do like some of the new features and capabilities of Genesis 2, but I've always been a Genesis fan since I first started, and I expect I'll continue using that figure for years.
I have certainly invested some time and money in making sure I can get as much cross-generational compatibility as possible. Don't have GenX2 yet but I'm officially saving up for it.
The nice thing about the current technology and utilities is that a user has many options available to them. It just comes down to personal preference with nothing better better or worse.

I'm going to have to try that. My biggest peeve is the pecs. No matter what I do sometimes the guy looks like he has an a-cup. Maybe a reverse conversion will work.
I do like the look of the bodies, except for that issue. Can't seem to scrub it out. Especially with certain outfits which seem to cling and enhance the cleavage area.
I use both Genesis and Genesis 2 I have the GenX plugin too and I am in the slow process of converting all the Vicky 4 characters to G1 and GF2 the most interesting thing I have found though is that I some of the characters that I have come out better in Genesis 1 compared to Genesis 2 a lot more tweaking is needed for GF2 as the Gen 4 shapes for GF2 look a lot different compared to the Gen 4 shapes for Genesis 1...

Give it a shot, I think you'll be happy with the results.
Count me in as another person who uses GenX2 as my fix all solution. While I love Genesis for its versatility, the weight mapping, foot articulation and surfaces on the G2's are definitely a bit better, so my "norms" are usually G2s these days while the more extreme characters are G1s. And while we're extolling the virtues of GenX, don't forget that GX/GX2 also lets you transfer your facial expressions between all the different figures as well. I've got all of my G2F expressions rolled over onto G2M and Vice versa and both are running Smay's 220 Emotions for Genesis and a number of the gen 4's. Needless to say, it's all pretty darn spiffy.

Thanks for this, it's something I've wondered about, but usually one hears about people converting things in the opposite direction.
So, what I get from your post is that Genesis 2 is a step backwards, because there is no Genesis 2 Muscle Morphs? That...I find is a sort of very limited view on things.
Still I have to say that I, too, find it pretty baffling that DAZ still hasn't released a Muscle Add-On for Genesis 2. I did expect they would, but, yeah, nothing so far and no sign of it in the future either.
Of course, given how liberal DAZ is with information on their products, you have a better chance at finding out what the NSA is currently doing than what DAZ has in the works.
SereneNight & Scott-Livingston - here is G2M with Darc dialed in (white pants) Genesis with Darc dialed in (grey pants) and Genesis with Darc's head only and 50% each of D5 and M5 for the body (black pants) for comparison.
I really like default facial expressions that are available for Genesis 2 line.
That being said until I got the GenX addon I barely used Genesis 2! Now I use it more, though I tend to default to V4 and M4 for certain outfits.
My biggest gripe with the Genesis 2 stuff is the extra custom characters like the new Lillith, Gianni etc etc. I can't justify on my budget getting those!

Back in the day, I got good mileage out of Possette (poser 4 base female) and Vicky 1. Didn't use the "Poser Dude" (poser 4 base male) much because nobody ever made clothes for him...
I missed the entire lifespan of the Genesis 1 figures, and most of the lifespan of V4. Looks like I left 3D during the Gen-3 time, and lingered around the edges for a little as V4 and A4 came out.
I've noticed that Genesis 1 figures look a little bit androgynous when I load them in - but then I only have the 'free ones' that have come in packs of other things - like a load of them that came with Carrara.
But there is good clothing in the Genesis 1 catalog, and as it goes into discount I've been eyeing some of it for use on Genesis 2 as it auto-fits better than my older Gen-3 stuff does.
GenX is in my wishlist but I have yet to see a pressing need for it, as I don;t have any special attachment to the look of the older lines.
Am I the only one who thinks Genesis 2 is a step back after Genesis? No there are many who feel the same and at one point I did but not now. It is a personal choice as PAs are still making Morphs for Genesis so it isn't a big deal for me. I do like Gen 2 with all the HD morphs etc but as of yet I haven't bought in to them and I am not sure I ever will. Well unless I win the lottery then I will. Read in to that what you will. ;)
When Genesis 2 Female was first released, I was amongst those who felt it was a step backwards. The main reason I felt this way is because they had gone from a singular figure, Genesis, to dual figures and we only had the female to play with at the time, so we were already missing one half! The other, more crucial, element was the child morph which was conspicuous by its absence, and on Genesis allowed me to create figures of all age ranges.
Now though, all of those worries have been put to pasture. G2M is out and looking great, with a decent wardrobe and some fantastic skins and morphs. Even better is the addition of Zev0's Growing Up morphs which I still consider the shiniest jewel in my morphs collection. I've even got a few nice young characters to go with them.
Genesis 2 is now my go-to figure for most of my figures, though I still use Genesis for most of my toon figures and for some of my favourite morphs like Benjamin. Having more tools is never a bad thing.
Wouldn't know if Genesis 2 is a step back (or forwards) after Genesis, and don't intend to find out either -- unless I can get Genesis 2 for free. At present virtually all my figure needs are quite satisfactorily answered by Genesis already. With Genesis 2, on the other hand, I don't seem to find any outstanding features on the basis of what I find here at DAZ 3D that have made me feel I've really been missing out on something significant. To me Genesis 2 seems little more than Genesis plus a few trifling features. M6's face doesn't seem to me half as appealing as M5's or M4's either. He doesn't look mature enough to be a man, but neither does he look young enough to be a child.
Well, to each his own, I guess. (Shrugs.)
But Genesis 2 is free Both Genesis 2 female and Genesis 2 male, in the Genesis 2 Starter Essentials.
And right now, so is V6 - http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-6 :bug:
Why does it have to be seen as going forward or backward? It is a matter of choice. Some users prefer A3. Others V4. They are tools. You may get the results you want using Genesis. The Genesis 2 line may give you what you want. I don't care what Generation or version I end up using so long as I get results. And a paycheck.
Sorry, but I don't see any truth to that whatsoever. Are there good things and bad things about Genesis 2? I suppose. But that's true of each and every generation of DAZ character. Plus, your personal needs from a model will impact which one is best for you. For you, the statement above might be true. For others, maybe not so much.
For me Genesis 2 is a step backwards.
Genesis gives me more options than Genesis 2. There are always too much workarounds and limitations, and the weird pecs alone keeps me away from male characters, which are the base of my work.
But, both are infinitely better than Generation 4 in my opinion.
That looks very promising TimG. I do prefer genesis 1's chest and heads and flexibility, and posterior to gen2 male. While I prefer some of the features of gen2 males, like the increased definition, arms and articulation.
I've wondered why gen2 male's pecs never have been fixed. It is a very frustrating issue.
Oh well. I'm going to try this tomorrow. Looks like a useful thing to do.
Just as a side note, the pec issue is really seems to be more a function of the basic character morphs, especially M6 and Gianni. After all, the base G2M figure looks man-boob free with the iconic morphs, and Jayden is also relatively little affected. I don't have Lee, so can't I comment on him, but it seems that much of the effect on the others is the result of the ultra-ripped muscles of those figures, which are all considerably more buff than the base M4.
In my opinion, it's because G2 was optimized more for a female form, since that's what sells the most and gets the most attention. I think the base figures have more mesh in the breast area, and when it's the male shape it's compressed and won't smooth out. If you look at the male morphs for V4 and V3, it's a very similar look.
As it has been pointed by Chohole, you have the bases (and V6 if you checkout now). In fact, this discussion starts to lead to nowhere. If you don't like a certain product, just return it. Surely, there are many people prefering Gen2F and Gen2M. Your choice.
I've not noticed whatever this problem is. What is it?
My 'base' for the G2M is Lee - as he came out right as I came back to all of this. Either he lacks the issue, or I'm not noticing this issue. I'm not even sure what I'm supposed to be looking for? The pectorals have the wrong shape somehow? Kind of like how with Genesis 1, the female bosom on the base figure tends to look like its been twisted out of the male shape?
