Embarrassing lack of Christmas items...

in The Commons
I want to do a Christmas render and find that Daz suffers from a real lack of cute Christmas dresses for Genesis 8 females and I only found one Christmas tree (victorian). Anyone know of good, current Christmas resources? Thanks.

You may find some on rendo, but they are not too well sorteed in the Christmas clothing department either. They ahve a nice Christmas outfit by nirvy, though.
There is this bundle: https://www.daz3d.com/christmas-home-bundle
It includes this Christmas tree: https://www.daz3d.com/christmas-tree
There is a Christmas tree in this too: https://www.daz3d.com/fg-christmas-living
And here too: https://www.daz3d.com/christmas-eve
I am not sure what exactly you meant by "cute", but have you seen these?

Gorgeous Christmas tree by Polish...used here -
I'd really like a gen 8 outfit like this: community christmas annie at DuckDuckGo
But I don't want anything genesis 3. I see no sense in buying old assets that don't look good under Iray.
Sorry i tried to post a pic, but the forums are not letting me ad an attachment right now.
i have a christmas shader, if its helps. (its knitted)

Those look fun :)
You should be fine with G3. 99.9% of it is Iray (because G3 came out right at the same time Iray did). And G3 clothing converts well to G8, other than heels.
I googled "Santa dresses daz3d" and came up with many suggestions.
This!
IMO what is embarrassing is artists that don't make the effort to get things to work when there isn't a plug and play one click option. Being creative means putting in some of the work yourself beyond just moving things around in DS.
Ouch. Sorry I'm not as computer savvy as you.
There's no need to be sorry. But there's a lot to learn in Daz, mostly by screwing up, and there are times when, in order to achieve what you want, it's necessary to try new things. Or in this case, old things. G3 and G8 stuff generally gets along pretty well, and almost all G3 stuff includes Iray materials that look as good as G8 materials. Truth be told, some G8 stuff doesn't look so great, so it's not a guarantee of quality.
??? Genesis 3, which came out with DS 4.9, came out well after the introduction of Iray, which was originally introduced during the run of DS 4.8, and I've never heard of a G3 product that wasn't shipped with iray as the default.
I started using Daz when G8 was brand new, so I was ballparking it. I assumed it would have been around the same time as the default skin texture for G3F when loaded is using 3DL mats (if I remember correctly). That and I don't find much stuff for G2 that uses Iray.
Either way, OP should be totally fine going with G3 outfits if they find one in the style they are looking for.
Getting G3 clothing to fit G8 is also pretty easy. I think most are under the impression that it's difficult.

Genesis 3 clothing and hair usually plays pretty well with Genesis 8 - sleeveless clothing tends to fit nearly flawlessly in particular. Many Genesis 3 clothing can be added to the scene (with nothing in the scene selected), their "Scene Identification" changed to Genesis 8, and then "fit to" Genesis 8. That often works pretty well. Sleeveless dresses, like you're looking for, are an almost perfect fit from Genesis 3 to Genesis 8.
I had to hide bits of her shin with the geometry editor and feet toes just hid
but otherwise genesis 1 Santa Baby didn't fit too badly
I know some would want strand based hair instead of transmapped
Is any G3 stuff dforce?
Not unless it was released after the advent of dForce (and it specifically says dForce). Some PA's will put out dForce outfits that are both G8 and G3.
That being said, with a little experimentation and trial and error, you can easily convert most anything to dForce. You just have to learn how to paint a dForce weight map. For example, pictured below is a G2F dress converted to dForce -
That is beautiful! Sooooo good. Unfortunately I don't think I'll ever be that talented. I just sort of tinker. lol
Do you have a blog or something where you teach your methods?
I wouldn't mind a tutorial on how to paint dforce, all the ones I find on youtube are, though helpful, they really should speak clearer, and zoom in on the buttons and sliders used for those who have average sized monitors, mine is 20 inches. In many cases they are going so fast I can't keep track of what they're doing, or they mumble or say little to nothing. For some reason most don't make use of the desciption area to give more information.
Be sure to check out Mada's channel on YouTube. She has a couple of good videos on adding and modifying dForce.

Amazing job with the dress! I would have never thought it was G2
@melissastjames Stunning render! I could see that as a cover for a novel. Gorgeous work!
What lighting was used in the scene?
The Christmas shaders are so beautiful!! My fav is the black, gold and white!!!
Thanks! I pretty much tinker as well. It's all trial and error.
Thank you! It started out as just a promo for the the draping sleeves, but I wanted to show how they can be added to other outfits for kitbashing and it kinda went from there, lol.
If you're asking about the one I posted, it's lighting from the HDRI as well as a soft backlight and fill light.
Sorry for the multiple posts...not sure what's going on but I can't multi-quote anymore. The edit screen also looks funky...I'm assuming it must have something to do with someone fiddling around with the site.
