By typing the search term in.
I have found that if the word I type in is in the description or the title of the product, then it shows up for me.
On the suibject of making things easier for the user, please see Please put your question in the post body and the title - Daz 3D Forums
As for thes tore, if you search for a word that has zero hits (and the search does seem to take a little while to add new products, or did a few days back when I was searching for a couple) then it will offer a "guess" at what you might have meant if the unproductive term was a typo.
The only thing that works well is to open a 2nd browser window in incognito mode or a 2nd different browser where you are not signed in, and in that 2nd browser type one word like shoe shirt mountain tree animation (whatever no plurals) and you will get a huge amount of results. Find something you like and type the sku in the first signed in browser to see the correct discounted price and to see if you own it already. Sad, I know but right now it's what works best. The search engine was fantastic last year not sure what happened to it but it seems determined to give limited results and not populate anything if it's related to a new item (you know the ones that look familiar) anyhow, the upside is it keeps one from being a shopaholic. :D
Edit: This good for when you are actually on Daz and do not know the item by name, but when I know the item by name or partial name I find searching by google better than on Daz signed in or not.Google. Include "site:daz3d.com" with your search terms and you'll only get results from here.
ditto.
and if you're searching for results in the forums, type 'site:daz3d.com/forums' and then a space and your search string.
...I just use another tab and type in whatever I'm looking for with "Daz3D"as part of the search string. Sometimes just looking at the Images that come up can be of help.
The changes and new automatic functions made the search function widely unusable for me. Here an example:
If there are 2 products connected to a search term, and you already own one and want to buy an IL for that one, there is just no way to access it with the search function anymore. It will always directly load the second product, without giving you any chance to switch off "Hide Items I own". Not a good experience for the user. I would call this a broken function.
I don't see any unwanted autocomplete or change of the endered term in the store search. At all. Review your browser settings.
There def are changes, but these are only visible under certain circumstances as described above.
Edit: I probably should note that the problem I described above happened multiple times to me when searching with specific search terms for already owned products to buy ILs, and made the experience very frustrating for me. It's not a once-in-a-blue-moon thing, at least when you search for specific items that you already own to buy ILs...Oh, there are changes. I'd never deny that. The new search actually finds the specific stuff I'm looking for. Sometimes it gets confused about what I have already bought and what not. And when specifically looking for stuff I already bought I'd rather go to my library and search there.
But the actual issue the OP is complaining about? Not a sight of it to be found here.
Now, I have seen that particular issue elsewhere. One of my devices has the unfortunate tendency to do that on Google searches. But that's an issue with the browser on that Fire HD tablet and its autocomplete settings.
I put your good experience down to a lack of searching. And the problem has absolutely nothing to do with browser settings or autocomplete.
For example, the other day, I was searching for "worship". Apparently I own, the only item in the store with "worship" in the name. It's a set of poses. So instead of no search results with the default "Hide Items I Own" setting, I got a bunch of "workshop" results. When I unchecked "Hide Items I Own", I did not get a search result page, but was taken to the product page for the item I own.
I typed "armor" into the search box - it automatically changed the spelling to "armour" and gave me a page of 27 results that were neither armor or armour.
I typed "holt" into the search box and it gave me a screen that loaded NOTHING even though it said it was loading items. I gave it a few minutes, still nothing.
I typed "RawArt" into the search field, and this one page showed up. Daz probably lost $500 in business from me not being able to find anything during their last sale.
Through the entire sale, when I typed "Dain" into the search box, the text automatically and instantly changed to "rain" - maybe 50 times it did this on multiple days - and nothing even showed up for "rain".
Many times I type the EXACT name of the product into the search box and get no results.I type "sorcery" into the serach box and get 6 results. Really? That's it. From the thousands of products, only 6 of them are related to sorcery? And those 6 results don't even include the "Wicked Sorcerer Poses" product.
Type art deco into the search box and you get 9 results, 2 of which have nothing to do with art deco - so why are none of the art deco rooms and furniture showing up?
I've been shopping here every week for 12 years. I know what's in the store. I've spent THOUSANDS of dollars. I know how to do a search. AND THE SEARCH IS NOT WORKING ANY MORE.The text changes are due to your browser and computer autocorrect rather that the DAZ search... I have mine "tamed" on my Mac so a search for "Dain" brings up "Dain" products.
No, sorry, I'm on a Mac too. I type DAIN into Google and I get 15,000,000 results containing DAIN. My computer and my browser are not auto-correcting anything.
Google search with DAZ3d and Dain in the search box, and the Dain products at DAZ show up. The problem is in the search function within DAZ.
I have the same problem, Fauvist. I don't even bother searching on the site anymore. Part of the problem, is the spelling is absolute, its searching for exact matches rather than phrase sets, and it does search descriptions as well as titles; trying searching 'deco' instead of 'art deco' - you will get a lot of decor items, but you may find what you are looking for. Heaven forbid you should use a different spelling, though, or try looking for an 'airplane' when they are all titled 'jet'... sigh.
I decide that if it doesn't show up in the search results, it wasn't meant to be and move on.
In another thread I was going back and forth with someone because we were getting different search results for the same word search. It's a joke. I think they got stuck with some search software that is trying to be smart but isn't set up at all for the store database.
And yes, the inablity to just search for a vendor's name and get their products is ridiculous.Another example of the changing words that's "totally not happening", searching for "convergence", the results are items with "conference" in the name.
Don't bother searching for a vendor, just do daz3d.com/vendor-name-here. If the vendor has spaces in their name, use dashes "-".
Here's what I got w/ "convergence". (attached)
My suggestion for now is to clear your cookies/temp files and see if that helps.
I just searched for "meaning of life" and the store gave me two pages of products
.
were there 42 products?
were there 42 products?
No, the "problem" is that I own the convergence outfit and textures, so it doesn't find any unowned results, so it searches for near matches.
Just wish the amount of energy trying to blame the users could be harnessed towards going back to the old search software.
