I have the same problem, Fauvist.  I don't even bother searching on the site anymore.  Part of the problem, is the spelling is absolute, its searching for exact matches rather than phrase sets, and it does search descriptions as well as titles; trying searching 'deco' instead of 'art deco' - you will get a lot of decor items, but you may find what you are looking for.  Heaven forbid you should use a different spelling, though, or try looking for an 'airplane' when they are all titled 'jet'... sigh.

... try searching when you use Queens English, it gets even more buggered.

I just searched for "meaning of life" and the store gave me two pages of productsyes.

...I did and I only got one that was mostly Starter and Pro Bundles (120 items per page).

A search for "Spock" turned up two pages of sci fi stuff so sort of appropriate.

Looking for "Mr. Goodbar" turned up nothing. Sort of expected that.

Daz needs to turn off the DEFAULT HIDE ITEMS I OWN on searches. That would be a big help, though it would only decrease and not eliminate the search fubarity.

    That's a good idea!

I don't see any unwanted autocomplete or change of the endered term in the store search. At all. Review your browser settings.

There def are changes, but these are only visible under certain circumstances as described above.

Edit: I probably should note that the problem I described above happened multiple times to me when searching with specific search terms for already owned products to buy ILs, and made the experience very frustrating for me. It's not a once-in-a-blue-moon thing, at least when you search for specific items that you already own to buy ILs...

Oh, there are changes. I'd never deny that. The new search actually finds the specific stuff I'm looking for. Sometimes it gets confused about what I have already bought and what not. And when specifically looking for stuff I already bought I'd rather go to my library and search there.

But the actual issue the OP is complaining about? Not a sight of it to be found here.

Now, I have seen that particular issue elsewhere. One of my devices has the unfortunate tendency to do that on Google searches. But that's an issue with the browser on that Fire HD tablet and its autocomplete settings.

I put your good experience down to a lack of searching.  And the problem has absolutely nothing to do with browser settings or autocomplete.

For example, the other day, I was searching for "worship".  Apparently I own, the only item in the store with "worship" in the name.  It's a set of poses.  So instead of no search results with the default "Hide Items I Own" setting, I got a bunch of "workshop" results.  When I unchecked "Hide Items I Own", I did not get a search result page, but was taken to the product page for the item I own.

I do not posses that item. When I search for it I get ONLY that one item in the search, get get taken from the search page to the actual product page. Yes, I do see the search page. The automatic forwarding seems to be a function when only a single search result is found.

I typed "armor" into the search box - it automatically changed the spelling to "armour" and gave me a page of 27 results that were neither armor or armour.

You haven't looked  at the items. They were made by the PA Age of Armour. That's why they were found.

Your screenshot clearly shows you performed the search on a mobile browser. Turn off autocorrect on the device.

Searching for "Armor" in Firefox on the PC gets me exactly the results I expect.

I typed "holt" into the search box and it gave me a screen that loaded NOTHING even though it said it was loading items.  I gave it a few minutes, still nothing.

The loading animation is generated BEFORE the search function is completed and the search results are inserted into the page.

Searching for "holt" in Firefox on the PC gets me exactly the results I expect.

Your screenshot also clearly shaows that the site bugged out during the search and did not complete it successfully.

I typed "RawArt" into the search field, and this one page showed up.  Daz probably lost $500 in business from me not being able to find anything during their last sale.

The search finds 353 items when I perform it here (or 356 when it is tild to include items I own already).

    Fauvist said:

Through the entire sale, when I typed "Dain" into the search box, the text automatically and instantly changed to "rain" -  maybe 50 times it did this on multiple days - and nothing even showed up for "rain".

Many times I type the EXACT name of the product into the search box and get no results.

No problem here. Try on a different device or turn your autocorrect off.

    Fauvist said:

I type "sorcery" into the serach box and get 6 results.  Really?  That's it.  From the thousands of products, only 6 of them are related to sorcery?  And those 6 results don't even include the "Wicked Sorcerer Poses" product.

Yes. If you just browser the store casually you will see that most products cover completely different topics and not sorcery.

Incidentally, searching for "magic" brings up 136 items. So maybe you should try searching for different terms and not expect DAZ3D and PAs not to conform to your word choice expectations.

    Fauvist said:

Type art deco into the search box and you get 9 results, 2 of which have nothing to do with art deco - so why are none of the art deco rooms and furniture showing up?

I've been shopping here every week for 12 years. I know what's in the store. I've spent THOUSANDS of dollars. I know how to do a search. AND THE SEARCH IS NOT WORKING ANY MORE.

Party Decorations - THAT'S Why it finds those two.

The search is working just fine. It searches the name of the product and the artist name. In the product name it does partial matches, in the artist name it doesn't and needs the whole name. It doesn't have tags or metadata and it doesn't look at the pictures and says "that looks art deco". If it's not in the name of the product it is not art deco as far as the search is concerned.

Only on Daz. That wide (too wide) sci-fi relation to spock has results but you can search for "Bike"and still not get all "hove"or xxxxbike in the store not even relate to the terms like motorcycle.

No, but a search for "42" takes me a lot closer to the truth.

If I were Daz Productions Inc., and my revenue came from broker fees for items sold in my store, I would want people looking for 3D content sold in my store using the search engine my store provides.  I would not want people looking for Daz products using anything but my search engine, because other search engines may take my customers places I don't want them to go to find items sold in my store.

Posercontent does not list warez sites, it is an affiliate search site run by Littlefox but it does link to Renderosity, HW3D etc too

I have had it in my own bookmarks for years

Me too, Sevrin. But you will return to daz3d.com anyway from site I mentioned.

When people think of searching, they think of using the search engine they use to search for everything else.  Point is that Daz is being its own worst enemy by not providing the very best search engine possible for products sold in the Daz store.  Right now, the Daz store search engine is just about the worst option if you want to find anything here.

You got that right! I was searching for a specific cowboy..

    https://www.daz3d.com/desperado-hd-clothes-for-genesis-3-male-s

It didn't appear in the search. I looked under gunslinger, cowboy, wild west

I waste too much time looking for things here.

.yeah I got the same result as well.

Searching for "Vogon" turned up a page with "vogue" items and a couple character bundles.

Entering "whale" though actually turned up whale content.

I have given up trying to use the store search function. The last time I searched for some Sci-Fi content and got medieval suits of armor, It's not worth the aggravation.

    Use google:

    site:www.daz3d.com/forums/

    and

    "Word you are searching for"

The forum search was always bad ...

  • One way to get around Search Store refusing to show you items that you already own is to do your search in an incognito window.

It shouldn't be necessary to resort to workarounds, but this is where we are.

  • xyer0xyer0 Posts: 6,056

Still using google to search the store because Daz hasn't updated the store search to do text searches of product pages. Also, the targeted result of an exact name search often appears low in a list of unrelated items.
