Mei Lin is indeed a new upcoming G2F icon. The speculative consensus is that she will be Lee's partner, something far more ethnically realistic than Aiko. :)

Yay, I knew it! Actually, I searched the documentation wiki and found an amazing deal of unreleased stuff. Mostly Gen2F and Gen2M items, but also some props. And some hairstyles have V4 versions. Would it be okay to set up a page to discuss what we'd like to get as Mei Lin?

This is of course pure speculation at this point

Suuuure %-P! A new shape shows up on a product's description page before DAZ the almighty realised it would like to have another pro bundle %-P. It can't mean anything, riiiight?

Interesting, considering a number of characters for Aiko are attempting/will attempt to make her more realistic.

That's what I said over in the PC Members forum. I honestly think characters like Lotus and Lin are very realistic-looking, even with A6's toony base in the formula. But most of us think that Mei Lin will differ A6 more in genre-execution rather than appearance distinction.

Do you mean the bundles' contents? Like A6 had crazy anime, cosplay and skimpwear (because a DAZ girl can't live without it, apparently), whereas - if Mei Lin was Lee's counterpart - Mei Lin is going to be an Asian lady or something?

    I WANT A SUMO BUNDLE.

I'm going to be spending less money this year because of the punch system and how discounts are working. I don't plan to upgrade to PC+ till membership renews and only 3 PA had older products I was considering to picking up and it isn't worth me buying those products because the discount on them may not be as good as when those PAs have had Flash Sales in recent months due to the way the sale is working.

Any new products I buy would have been things I would have normally picked up when they went into the store at this point.

Plus the new figure getting released with a Pro Bundle each money has been eating up money that I would have saved for the sale.

I haven't bothered with complicated sales. Just too much trouble. They won't get me in the mood to buy things I don't really want or need without deep discounts.

I hate to say it but I think that 3D technology is plateauing. We old timers from the beginning of the century have followed the technology curve and grabbed onto each new generation of technology as they became available, despite the knowledge that we'd be repopulating our model closet at great cost. However, for me that ended with Genesis. I tinkered with Genesis and tried only few new things and only played with DAZ Studio4, but I haven't moved at all to Genesis2. It doesn't benefit me and I still don't like the Studio4 interface.

Unfortunately, like many technology companies, DAZ needs to continually re-invent the wheel and push new technology in order to keep the limited market buying. But when technology gets so good that improvements become moot for the majority of customers, the marketing model falls apart. I've bought most everything I ever wanted from DAZ, and I don't expect products or sales great enough to lure me in anymore.

I still read the e-mail announcements and visit the catalog at least once a week though. I was intrigued by the new release of adjustable water droplets on Genesis2 model textures (fascinating idea!) but it's a Genesis2/Studio4 thing only so I'm not going to invest unless it shows up eventually for the Michael4 generations.

A new technology that would be fascinating would be the "Make Art" button that reads my mind and creates an animation microsecond by microsecond of the living breathing form in my thoughts. The Krell had one but their planet blew up.

Well, I don't play either. As a matter of fact I only buy what I desire - and if that results in some discount along the line, then fine :-) And if that can be spent on a slender and elfin BF to Giselle or a new G6 dog or smth then I'm overjoyed. But if it's just some skimpywear or model 1A fantasy props at the end of the line, then pass on it and go on with my life.

I hate to say it but I think that 3D technology is plateauing.

    I don't think it's even close.

You've never seen a "4 layer" bone/muscle/fat/skin 3D modeling system in action. I'd say we're 3-4 years from that sort of thing getting out of the big studios and into programs in the DAZ/Poser/Blender class.

Then there's the idea of integrating an unbiased (physics based) renderer, or at least support for one, into the main 3D program. Right now, all we've got is plugins like Luxus or Reality to provide awkward interfaces to the free Lux Render (which isn't stable in the GPU port, so you have to run slow, hard math on the main CPU). Few vendors take that seriously, so characters and props that look really good in a physics based renderer are few and far between. Most props and characters will need new textures and shaders to get the most out of a better renderer. Some will need new geometry: for even the mighty Genesis 2 doesn't have the right thickness between inner and outer surfaces to give realistic translucency on the ears, eyelids, or cheeks.

We have a long, long way to go with hair. Right now, we have conforming 3D models with maybe 2 or 3 layers of hair, and we have two plugins for "stranded" hair that are not ready for prime time. Well executed conforming hair is great: it's rigged with morphs that track the character's morphs, auto fit, and joint controlled morphs, so it fits well on multiple characters and moves nicely when you pose or animate. But it looks like layers of semi-transparent pictures (strange). The stranded hair plugins like LAMH don't really move or fit well. Picture a hybrid that takes a conforming, rigged model of the overall shape of the hair and fills it with strands.

What was this thread about, anyway?

Unless the PA's do something that really tempts me, the only things I see myself buying this month is Zigraphix's upcoming Aiko 3 Morphs & Maps for Genesis ...

Agreed! Looking forward to that item as well! :) If its early enough in the month, it may cause interest in some addt'l G2F stuff...

I use Generation 4 the most and purchased a few older products that i can use without problems in Poser. Daz Studio is not my thing and the whole DSON Import, yeah it works but it is slow and i have a fast computer. So i do save a little bit of money, too.

Well, I detest this kind of sales, however I must say that comparing to last year, vouchers are a way much better reward since you can freely choose what you want.
The math is as well a bit easier, spend 30 bucks and go to a 60% discount and 10 in daz originals, spend 60 and you will be on the 70%.. and 20 in daz originals... it all depends if the items are useful to you or not. If you are planing to purchase a loot it makes sense, if you dont, well maybe not so much.
Ill follow this for a week or so, if they give a couple of cheap punches then ok, if all punches stay high, maybe it is too much for the game.

How long time will the vouchers be available? if we lets say get 20 dollars on daz originals, would we have to spend them inmediately? or do we have some time?.

    Cheers

During the Premier Artists Celebration, the only sale is the PA sale, as it has always been since the PA sale was inaugurated.

We already have a Mei Lin 6 thread going on over in the PC Members forum. However, since she technically is public knowledge thanks to SickleYield's product description, public discussion should be allowed. So why not? I'm sure one of the Admins can merge our threads here to the Commons. :)

But yes, that's what we're speculating. A6 did get some "Real World" Asian content and characters, but most of her products overall caters to styles found in Anime/Manga and Gaming. We're guessing Mei Lin will be released with more contemporary clothing found in Eastern pop-culture. If we recall A5, who, not only looked more realistically Japanese than any of her predecessors, but actually got all of the J-pop content that not even Hitomi had, seeing DAZ release A6 the way they did supports the suggestion that they're continuing this trend.

RCDeschene, this merge would be sweet. Not everyone can view Members Only after all. How will this come: should we start a thread in The Commons or a mod - Chohole perhaps, she's so helpful - would move the PC thread here?

There were DAZ Original vouchers in one of the other recent "bubble game" sales. Mine literally went to waste, because there were several loopholes with the vouchers, and it ended up that another sale gave better deals on any DAZ originals that I actually wanted than I'd get with the vouchers.
