Welcome, precisgirl! I like the way you posed the characters in your image. :)

To improve your work you should take a look at the New Users Contest section:

    Especially to this thread:

Thanks for the feedback! Question: Should I have posted this in the new users forum instead? And if so, can I (or should I) get this moved or deleted?

You are at the right place here. In the Art Studio section you can post all the renders you do.

The New Users Contest section is dedicated to the New Users Contest. Each month there is another theme.
And the new users who participate in the contest can recieve feedback for their suposed entry from more advanced users in the WIP thread. There is a plenty of good information provided in those WIP threads.

While the new users help section is for any toppic you have specific questions or general help is needed.

    Hi Precisgirl,

This is a really nice picture for a newbee. A lot of new artists leave out half of the production, which ruins the scene. For what it's worth, I would suggest that you experiment with lighting and cameras next, particularly the lighting. It's the lighting in Daz that really packs a punch with regards to realism.

    Great start though!

First day of school in the Lamia household, Alyssa dons her uniform, but is unsure of what to make of the shoes they gave her. "Dad wears shoes. They go on the bottom parts. Ok, this one is good, but what about this one? I've only got one tail! Am I gonna get in trouble for not wearing the entire uniform?"

Thanks for the support, and I did work on my lighting in this one, hopefully its not too dark, and I really loved how the lighting on the lamps turned out. Woo, it feels like I'm making progress!

Again nice work! And a funny description. :-)

On trick to light up indoor scenes, try to hide walls or the ceiling and use one (or more) distant lights with low intensities and no shadows.
Just to make dark areas a bit brighter and create some kind of overall lighting in the scene.

The shoe on the tail is a fun one. Made me smile :)

Thank you! I really wanted to come up with something fun, that captured the essence of a lamia living in a (mostly) human world! and thanks MN-# for the trick, i did use distant lights to light it up, but it screwed with the shadows a lot so i ended up leaving it darker. also, kind of a pun, shes in the dark literally and figuratively :P

Alyssa finds a boy who doesn't mind her tail. She's too shy to respond to him, but the grin on her face tells all.

Agree, it is quite an improvement and I like the changes you have done. :)

... and sorry for the bad suggestion to hide walls and ceiling to let the light in. :-)
You found a better way. ;-)

Alyssa finds her crush in the hall and can't resist trying to chat him up, but she is too shy to do much besides stare. Once again, her traitorous tail is giving away her true feelings.

(On a side note, I have no idea why his skin is all weird. If anyone has any ideas how to fix it, please let me know! Also, trying a new thing where I try to add motion to a still picture )

This is a very nice piece and really captures the mood. I do have one "question"/critique on it though, it's about your choice of skin texture on the girl, namely the fact that it has a tattoo on her arm. Given her apparent age (she looks to be between ten and twelve years of age, if not younger), it would be illegal for her to get tattoos (the minimum age in the US is eighteen). Wouldn't a skin texture without tattoos be more appropriate or is there some logical story reason behind it?

Or is that a pattern on the sleeves of her shirt? It looks like a tattoo, which is what sent up the "red flag".

I totally missed that you were commenting on a previous picture :P But yeah, she's basically wearing two shirts, a little long sleeve shirt underneath, and a t-shirt on top, and yeah the undershirt has designs on it, if you look closely at her wrist you can see the cuff! ;)

You had me worried there for a minute. Thanks for the clarification. In your first picture, who is the human woman holding the lamia woman?

It's a boy actually, his name's Alden, if you mean in the story, he's her slave/pet/husband lol, but if you mean the character i used it was young teen justin, tho i recently got ahold of teen jayden so he's upgraded now :P

OK, That looks like a woman to me, at least the face does. I can't see much of the body, that's why I asked. The face is very soft and feminine for an adult man, as is the hair, from what I could tell. Granted, there are plenty of men with "baby-faces" like that, but it did confuse me a bit. Once again, thanks for the clarification. You're doing some great work. Keep it up.

awesome! well in that case, I realize that I forgot to post the secondary pic to the girl with the tail issues :P so here it is!

As Alyssa does her best to not make a fool of herself in front of her new crush, her tail can't help but express itself. As her mother would say, "The tail always knows!". Her tail has apparently laid claim to this boy, and Alyssa is about to spontaneously combust from her embarrassment.

Alyssa's expressions are adorable! You've done a great job bringing her to life and making this fantasy girl so believable. This is turning into a fun and endearing story-telling series, keep up the good work!

Alyssa and her school crush Michael have matching pirate costumes for Halloween, and they're out with more school friends for a huge bounty in candy!

"Avast! Give us all your booty or be prepared to walk the plank!"

Of course, no Halloween would be complete without an embarrassing mother to make you take photos while cooing over how cute you look!

A bit early for halloween, but i couldnt resist :P
