     Maybe 4.16 will be better

I'm stuck with 4.12.0.86 for a reason. Try guess why.

...I'm actually still on the 4.12.0.47 Beta. which has been incredibly stable.  The one drawback is the version of Iray it has which is optimised for RTX series GPUs and I have an older card which takes a bit of a hit on performance (due to OptiX permanently set on by default) so I fall back to the 4.10 general release for rendering.  When I checked the logfile to see why it was bogging down in 4.12 (I have a Maxwell Titan-X so it wasn't dropping to the CPU) I saw warning messages concerning OptiX after every iteration update.

  • Where can I download DAZ Studio.  When I click Download Studio, I only get DAZ Central.

Where is Studio or DAZ Install Manager?  Somebody in a forum said to use that to install PostgreSQL about which I'm getting an error message.

    So, where is DAZ Studio?

    Thank you for your help.

  • Thanks for links.

When I download them, it says download blocked because it will harm my system.

When I ran Install Manager, the message said, "Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk."

    What's going on?

Are you using Windows 11? I think there is a setting to override those messages in SmartScreen.

  • I need to install Studio to unpack some stuff provided to me in DS formats. The link to download it leads to some 'Central' that appears to mess around with my content. My content is well organised and he last thing I want is it messed around by something I need only incidentally.

How can I download DS nd get it working like a normal app without filters?

Download, but not install, through DIM

or download manually from your product library.

    And yeah, avoid Central...

So using DIM I installed the most recent public build. It destroyed all my DS icon links and I cannot find the program. It appears to have self destructed!

I just checked my C:\Program Files\Daz3D\DazStudio4\ directory. There are some files in there but it eviscerted the program and the dlls. DAZStudio.exe is gone. Nowhere to be found.  Under my account where all my products are listed, there is no option for reinstalling Studio. Just Daz central. I do not want Daz central! How can I download studio and install it?

If you want to install it manual, go to "My Account" - Product Library . Filter to "DAZ Studio 4.X Pro". There use the download-link under "Manual" for your system.

  • Install Manager is also still available, from any product page that suports DIM instalaltion.

"Public Build" is the beta version, though - did you mean that or General reelase (which is what this thread is about)? Are you sure Daz Studio was closed when you tried to install?

  • Yes, Richard I did mean the general release, Sorry for my incorrect terminology. Thank you too, Peter, for helping me find the binary to download.

The DIM seemed to have caused the problem. I have no idea why. But when I started the manual installation .exe file in the zip file that I downloaded, it tried to load the software into the "DAZStudio4 Public Build" Directory. I manually changed the installation directory to "DazStudio4" and everything returned to normal.

The problem arose when DIM showed that there was an update available for the general release. That was what I had it install. That deleted all the executables and most of the dlls from the "DazStudio4" directory. I manually reinstalled 4.15.0.30. Is there a later general release available? If not, Why did DIM include a supposedly newer version in my downloads section? I suspect that DIM or its databases somehow became corrupted.

v 4.15.0.30 is running as well as it was before the SNAFU.

  • I now realize that before I did the installation yesterday, the general release version I had been running was 4.15.0.02 in directory "DazStudio4" and that I had 4.15.0.14 in the "DAZStudio4 Public Build" Directory.

Now the "about" popup shows the version I installed manually in Directory "DazStudio4" is "Version 4.15.0.30 Pro Edition (64-bit)". The version in the public build directory now says "Version 4.15.0.30 Pro Edition (64-bit) Public Build". It does not say "beta" anywhere.

Is 4.15.0.30 a general realease or a public build beta? Or are those two different programs despite having the same numbers?

Is there an explanation somewhere of the differences between a general release, a public build, and a public build beta?

I hope I have not messed everything up!. But right now everything is running just swell,

Is 4.15.0.30 a general realease or a public build beta?

    It's available as both.
Public build is the same as beta. It's the latest version of the software, available for customers to test new features while knowing there might still be a few bugs.
General release is the latest stable version.

There can be several beta versions between two general releases. Currently both the beta and general releases are the same version as 4.15.0.30 has been considered stable enough to become a general release and there's no newer beta yet.

Beta and general releases install in two different directories on your system, with different settings, so you can keep a stable version installed while testing a new beta in case there are problems with the beta.

How do I roll back to version 4.14? 4.15 is terrible angry Bugs, errors, rendering by the processor instead of the map... Is rollback possible?doh

  • Goodness!

I have a small piece that I need to get done.  But the updated daz is white! I can barely see to use it! I go window>Style> cusomize and the button does nothing.

On the right there should be viewport navigation tools and they're gone, except for rotate..How do I now zoom in on the face so I can do stuff?

I'd beg for it not to be broken when I need it, but I need it every day and it's already broken.

Please help me understand how to navigate the view port now and how to turn it not bright white with no differention between things? I have vision issues that don't cause me too much problems, but this new skin that I can't change is definately one of them.

....did you save the .zip for 4.14 in a backup folder? That is the only way you can roll back as the new version overwrites the old unless it is a beta (though a newer beta will also overwrite the previous beta version but not the general release one).

All white interface like that usually means you reinstalled DS while the old version was not closed. Close DS, wait till it’s really closed, then uninstall and reinstall it.

...OK a bit confused here. I decided to give 4.15.0.30 a test run to see how it worked in an older version of Windows.  However when I check the package date of the General release and the Public Build (beta) in the IM, I notice the package dates are different  For the General is September 01 while for the  Public Release (beta) is September 27.

Has there been a new beta revision since the General one was rolled out?  Don't' want to overwrite the 4.12 beta I'm using that has been surprisingly stable.

Although theya re the same version they were not necessarily packaged up at the same time - they can't just use the same zip as the details about where it should be isntalled, in the internal manifest file, would be different (as would the channel information in the application title-bar).

...so I'm good to go then with the one dated 09/01/21 which i the general release (just in case, I do have the 4.12 beta zip installer archived so I can roll back to it if it's overwritten).

...OK, that was a bust. Installed the 4.15.0.30  General Release and here's what I found when I opened it:

On my left screen where I have all the tabs and controls like Content Library, Parameters, and Surfaces, several I never use or had loaded like "Smart Content", "Shaping", and "Cameras"  were included as well.  I'm unable to remove the ones I don't want any nor can I even rearrange any of them.

On the main Window with the Viewport, Scene and Render Settings Tabs, only three menu selections that appear:

File, which only has the "Open Recent" and Exit options in the drop down when I click on it and none of the other selections like "Open", "Merge", "Save", etc.

Window, which only has the "Workspace" option in the drop down when clicked on and none of the other ones like "Panes", "Viewport",  "Style", etc.

Help, which does have all the selections present..

Also, the following menus are missing from the main window:  "Edit"., "Create", "Tools", "Render", and "Connect" (the latter which I don't bother with)..

In the Render Setting/Editor Tab, the Tone Mapping and Environment selections are missing and there is a separate "Environment" Tab that has nothing in it.

Apparently some type of decault setting replaced my custom layout (which hasn't happened before). Also, after I closed and reopened the programme, the panes that were on the left display were gone with no way to recover or rebuild them as there are no controls for customisation..

I made sure to install  Daz 4.15 Resoucres before launching the programme

    Yeah a major bug there.

    OS: Windows 7 Pro 64

So now I need to figure out how to uninstall it without messing up the 4.12 Beta installation as I cannot find an uninstall routine for it in the Control Panel/Programmes and Features window in Windows.  Looking at the installed programmes in the IM and using Daz Studio 4.15 as the search target, I see both a Daz Studio 4.15 and Daz Studio 4.15 Public Build entry listed even though I just installed the 4.15 General release, not the 4.15 Public Build one (that is still in the Ready to Download tab).

    What a bloody mess..

It's 03:05 and am not very pleased at the moment along with being tired..

It sounds like a faulty installation. How did you install it? If you used DIM, it can be uninstalled in DIM.

So, not sure what is going on here and don't  want to uninstall the wrong one.  When I entered Daz Studio 4.12 in the search field, nothing turned up, however I can still open 4.12 from the desktop.

You want to uninstall the 2nd one from the bottom: DAZ Studio 4.15 (Win 64-bit). Make sure that there is no instance of DAZ Studio running before uninstalling and installing, use Task Manager to make sure.

...thanks.  Uninstalled.  For some reason it renamed the 4.12 beta to 4.15 beta, that is bloody confusing.

Wondering if I should try again through the IM or do a manual install.

Now going on 04:00 here, I'll deal with it when I get up later.

IM install is fine, as long as you make sure that there is no instance of DAZ Studio running.

..didn't have any version of Daz open when I downloaded and installed it which is why I don't understand how it broke.

I did have the 4.10 General Release installed and wonder if, when it was replaced by 4.15 is where things got buggered.  Usually a new update would first uninstall the previous version (popping up a message box with progress indicator for the process) before installing the new version. I didn't see that last night.

  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 41,042

...OK downloaded a fresh version with the IM, installed, and the same result. Not sure why the installation is breaking like this.  Even uninstalled removed re downloaded the Default resources and that didn't fix anything.  the only thing I can think of is there is a fragment of an older install somewhere on the system that wasn't removed which may be buggering the install process.

When I hover the cursor over the "Open Recent" selection in the File Menu drop down it looks as if the file list that appears is from an older version. (possibly 4.10)  This should not have occurred with a fill fresh download and install.  At the very least I should have to rebuild my setup but there is no way to do so.

Attached is a screen shot of the main window.  In this state it is totally useless.
